3rd party UI for Eve????

Would be nice if they allowed it so we can pick and choose how we want the UI to look an act.
Would not hurt Eve at all, but encourage people to be more active with it. Lots of talent out there...

WoW is the first thing people are going to think about when you mention 3rd party UI's, both the pros and the cons. The advantage obviously would be that users could customize UI's aesthetics and functionality to their taste, but I believe (if history is anything to go by) that most players will be diametrically opposed to the idea of dumbing down the game with UI's that do the work for you.

The only UI I am talking about is graphics and layout nothing else.

This is a novel idea. I've never heard it before. Tell me more, please, as I believe this could be of value to any capsuleer that wants to adjust their neural interface.

I've said before that it would be nice to have some sort of API for the UI, allowing players to solve the long-standing issue of having a less than stellar default UI. I know that CCP is making slow-but-steady progress in this area, but if they opened up this task to the players, we'd not only have a solution faster, we'd have a wide array of solutions.

We don't need a 3rd party app to do that. First we need CCP's current UI designers to improve/streamline the existing UI to an acceptable standard. Then they could allow users to customs the UI to suit their needs.

The wishlist is pretty much complete...

Actually that particular group was my roommate and his friends, who were pretty horrible. The shaman raided and knew her stuff. Smile It was resto druids who were stupidly overpowered. Big smile

EDIT: I mean, I'm the healer, and I'm outdps'ing the rogue....Straight

I also wish we had moddable UIs.

As it stands, the degree of customization in game is pretty high, but I definitely feel you.

I think the UI should be open source. If you are familiar with the pattern, Blizzard opened up the API to the open source modding community, then would essentially steal any really cool 3rd party/open source functionality and incorporate them directly into the game. CCP should get smart do the same. But they won't. I think Hillmar has started providing jobs for his incompetent family members who can't jobs anywhere else, and they are displacing many of the real software developers ...

Imho they must have a very solid reason as to why they've never open up the UI and build an API for it.

Doubt CCP knows their UI enough to even open it up. Can't release the API or create dev tools if you don't know it well enough to do so.
