Frigates etc, versus Titans and friends

I'm a carebear, industrialist/mission runner. I have to admit to playing EVE poorly and will never aspire to the ranks of a Titan pilot or even a carrier. That's not why I play EVE.

What I don't understand is why the folks who DO fly Supercarriers/Titans etc. look down on people flying frigates/Interceptors. I have a BS, a Raven that I use occasionally but not often. Why? Because I find lumbering around, at 50-60Km range a bit slow and tedious. Now with my Taranis I can get in fast, dump my drones and blast away.

O.K. I am confined to level2/3 missions and don't make a lot, but as I said that's not why I play. So why is it that I'm considered to be of no account, a "loser" and a "noob"?

Surely the tactics of successfully tackling larger ships than the one you are flying are just as worthy as achieveing the heights of Titanhood. If so why not admit that the game offers different goals for different people and leave it at thatWhat?

Actually iirc, one of goonswarm's tactics involve a swarm of frigates taking out a titan like angry wasps.
let's face it: alone, a battlecruiser or above is just fodder for anybody plucky enough to be fast enough and close enough.

all the ship classes have their roles to fill, but that doesn't stop me wishing i could equip point defenses on my battleship. P

Actually Goonswarm's 'welpfleet' tactic uses swarms of AC-fitted Hurricanes, not frigates.

Your battleship does have "point defence"; all BS have a drone bay. Every BS can carry a flight of Warrior II and a flight of EC-300s.

They're just big rifters, so it's close enough… P

uh, sure, it's in this particular eve wiki anyway, so it's taking it at sheer face value.

really it boils down to sheer DPS, if you've got enough of it, you can bring down anything.

well that's true enough, while they do have a healthy supply of drones, it'd be just cooler visually to see something like flak on a minmatar battleship or PDS lasers on an Amarr battleship, etc.

but that's just being nitpicky, neh? Smile

I like how you have exaggerated killing a HAC with frigates to killing a titan with frigates.

I think you probably meant using a bunch of AC canes to take down supercarriers. But that is not what you said...

funny how no one answered his question...
@Jaxon Grylls
I am more or less new to EVE but the principle is the same
When i used to play WoW and top PVP rankings, ride around in best pvp gear on a rare pvp mount and kill everything left and right with my buddies. I really looked down on those casuals and carebares, coz I considered (and still do) that PVP is where the REAL hard time skill is.
Titan and supercap pilots are the same. Its really hard to pilot those things, it takes long time and practice to be good at it. Plus in EVE it so much harder compared to WoW or a lot of other games.
Hardcore pvpers always see themselves above anyone else or their needs/wants. They only respect better players.

I'm not a supercap pilot, but I can tell you at least a part of it.

When you're in a gang, you have the moral duty to be usefull. I'm sure you can understand why an organisation can't affort dead weights.

So while an interceptor certainly is usefull, the question remain to know just how long you will be. You are going to be a primary target for any ship with M guns, and you are going to die, fast, or be driven off to a range where you won't do much. This hold doubly true for frigs. I'm not saying there shouldn't be any interceptor in a gang. But any pilot should be able to be proficient with several hull sizes, and switch not only according to his own preferences, but also according to what his gang need.

You also need to be able to use a ship that is good at shooting structures, unfortunately.

Because, having wasted so many hours of their lives grinding ISK for a supercap and/or character - or often, having given so many dollars/euros to RMTers - they have a psychological urge to convince themselves that they've made a wise decision in their lives, and so hide themselves behind a superiority complex (when in fact we're all just a bunch of silly nerds playing a pretend spaceship game).

There has been at least one carrier killed by frigates. I'm sure this has happened before, against more competent carrier pilots.

Fail quote instead of edit.

The main reason for super cap pilots "looking down" on smaller ship pilots is simply that they think bigger is better. They have no idea how to play the game other than to follow orders, and most likely are trying to compensate for diminutive sexual organs.

Actually this is news to me.
Is this your perception, or did you actually find somebody this foolish ?

Nobody has given you a valid reason cause there isn't one.
