Patch notes for today's patch.

Some fixes to the Unified Inventory issues people have been running into. I know this doesn't cover everyone's concerns, just posting this in the relevant threads so everyone is aware of the current status.

Unified Inventory

Fixed an issue where the new Unified Inventory would reopen every time a character jumped, docked, undocked or otherwise performed a session change.
Inventory window locations that are still accessible between docking and undocking will now remain open. For example a ships Drone Bay, if opened in a separate window.
Fixed an issue where players could not edit their Smart Filters.
Fixed an issue where Corporation hangars would not load correctly.
Attempting to move mixed groups of items into hangar locations that can only accept a specific item type, will now transfer the items allowed.

The uniformed cargo windows, aren't very fun. more confusing, takes up alotta space on my screen (i'm on a wide screen too 19in)!

they are harder to read. most things are washed out and you can't see them. their not remembering their position, size, and state.

I hoep you guys change them back! hehe.

When mining with a fleet that has orca support, the issue still occurs that when the Orca warps out, everyone who has the Corp Hanger window open has that window default back to their own ships cargo.

Prior to patch, if you had the Orca's corp hanger open, it stayed open when the Orca warped out and when it warped back in, you could go straight back to dropping in ore.

A minor inconvenience but still a step backwards.

Better , for example :

Shift-clicked - ships cargo , this stays when dock/undock/session changes (nice!)
Shift-clicked - Items Hangar , position and size are remembered , but window dissapears when docking/re-docking .

But even having my ships cargo window open at all times makes some tasks playable (for me) Blink

Already did yesterday, but not too massive. However everyone was in terrible lags and I personally felt like in a submarine: everything outside my ship's armor frozen and I just reloaded and turned on rails.

I rarely post any comments but.. ..the new inventory system is so terrible that I don't even have all the proper words to nicely describe how bad it is. Evil

It wasn't enough that at station I wasn't able to properly handle my stuff - yes, tried to go back to the old system, with small single windows, worked at some level but wasn't still quite the same.. - but then at the battlefield when trying to loot something, holy cr.. ..it felt impossible to check the wrecks quickly enough at a system that is always hot. When compared to the old system it could be done on the fly, staying aligned most of the time etc. but now, gives a headache by only thinking the new Thing..

Bring back the old inventory system. The game is nearly unplayable and I am not happy to play at all as I get stumbled to that all the time.

i tried, i used the new system all yesterday got the hang of it set up filters etc and i still didn't like it but i felt like i could use it

then i logged off

i log in today and everything i did yesterday? gone, and now everytime i dock/undock the stupid sidebar is condensed to the point i can only see the arrows for the "root"

sorry but i'm a science and indy guy, inventory management is kinda central to what i do and this has just killed it for me, unless this.. thing? is seriously reworked or i'm given the better option of disabling it this is just going to kill my enjoyment of the game so for the first time since i made the account on 21/1/05 i'm genuinely thinking about letting this account and my others lapse

here are my main problems:

my "home" station has 24 containers and 18 ships in it, before the "upgrade" (as the GMs keep putting it) i docked, opened what i needed and job done, ZERO lag, no waiting for a loading wheel, perfect functionality, now everytime i dock i get 4 seconds of black box waiting for it to populate with a lot of information and submenus i simply do not need all the time

before the "upgrade" you pin a window? it stays there, it doesn't resize, it doesn't vanish when you dock or undock, now? it does whatever the hell it wants pinned or not

before the "upgrade" my ships cargo was easily accessed because it was pinned in place above my chat window (which i keep in the lower left corner) it was low impact, nice and simple now? dock and undock and it vanishes, or (and this is my favorite) after being told by a GM what amounted to "SHIFT CLICK FIXES ALL" i shift click, put my ships cargo there and undock, success! it stays in place, so i dock.. and my entire inventory decides to open up in a 4x1 icon large window.. awesome!

the old version? easy to see different ship types by icon, instantly upon clicking ships the new "improved" one? sure no need to click on ships anymore.. you just have to find the one you like in the list, now that's well enough.. except you have to make your sidebar wide enough to see the type of ship at the end which means?
so. much. wasted. space.

i get greeted with this everytime i open it after docking (yes I've cleared cache) which is fantastic, it doesn't matter how i resize it or if i pin it, GREAT another window that ignored being pinned - not like you were told that players actually like being able to pin things last time when you removed it was it?

speaking of things you removed, got heat for and then put back, anybody else remember how much heat you guys got for removing the whole double click = ship cargo while docked? well looks like thats gone again thanks to the new "improved" system

i'm not even going to get started on it picking up every single thing in a POS that has a cargobay, that you can't remove things ot set your own folders up in space or that just by it's very design it's huge compared to the old system

TLDR: this inventory system is a poorly designed rip off of file explorer, poorly implemented, with the players ignored YET AGAIN by somebody up in CCP, (did you people just completely ignore the whole "release it when it's ready and not before" thing the players tried to hammer home after WiS?) and if it isn't at the very least fixed or preferably made optional i seriously doubt i'll be renewing any of my subs. and no you can't have my stuff.

Additional note: i can't be the only person concerned that this seems to be a massive backslide to the mentality that was being thrown around at incarna? it's put on test servers, slated, devs/management ignore the complaints / bugs / genuine problems and then force everybody to use it regardless?

I'm going to go against the crowd and say I actually like the new inventory. Its not perfect yet, but with some more tweaks it'll be great. Despite having a large screen, I hate having heaps of windows up... and inventory windows were my biggest gripe. The left treeview is a feature I've wanted for a LONG time. Filters are an added bonus.

I think players need to understand that changes and new features will never be perfect on launch day. New stuff needs 'teething' time... time to get additional feedback and time to fix additional issues and concerns. CCP isn't out to ruin features and make players angry, they are intending to do the exact opposite. I can say, when you happily release something and feel that your 'consumers' will enjoy it also... then see them raging and hating it can be quite disheartening. What developers really want (and are more inclined to listen to) is feedback offered without all the hate/abuse.

For me, these would be good improvements:

  • Add a setting to 'open containers in new window'.
  • Add a setting to show/hide treeview.
  • Locate 'Item Hanger' above 'Ship Hanger'.
  • If an inventory window is open (e.g Cargohold) and the main inventory window is closed, you can't open the main inventory window back up again. You have to close all separate inventory windows first.

Oh and, this may be a bug. I attempted to stack a drone in a full drone bay, the error however says I don't have enough space to perform the action. It should really say, it can't be stacked as no more 'space' is actually being used.

Fie on thee, industrialists who hate the Unified Inventory. Don't you realize how many more ships will die as they hop a gate, see a camp, and get destroyed as they try to close, then re-open, then resize, then resize again so they can open a secure container, then go back, then remember to shift click to open a new window, then rezise, then arran... boom.

Seriously it's a boon to the shipbuilding economy.

Also server lag as it keeps people from logging in. Win win!

Amazing upgrade to the Merlin. Confused though. CCP spends all this time making the missile systems incredible but then takes all missile slots off the Merlin. I understand that people wanted a gun boat but why not give them the option? Let the Merlin have 3 high slots - 3 missile slots - 3 turret slots. That gives Caldari pilots a choice between their missiles and turrets.

the inventory system is horrible.

CCP should've limited it to err... inventory

not the cargo containers/wrecks floating in space, POS structures or ship's cargo hold.
cause those got nothing to do with inventory

inventory stops at the station

After a day of playing it, the new inventory system isn't so bad. I'm starting to like it. It takes some getting used to, but it's not bad at all when you get used to it.

But they need to fix the bugs and performance issues. It takes forever to open anything now. With one of my toons who has a lot of stuff in his hangar, it took me 53 seconds to open my ship's cargohold in station. That's unacceptable. I can boot my damn computer up faster than that. As for the bugs and issues, they've been properly documented in the last 28 pages of this thread.I don't think they need to be repeated again.

People were constantly telling me I was crazy. For a long time I didn't believe them, but after a while, I started to think they might be right.

But it turns out that they were all wrong. One of the voices in my head is a psychiatrist and he says I'm perfectly sane.
