What is the reason for not being able to "look at" a target (zoom in) over 100km?

seems like a pointless restriction to me. It would be better if you could zoom in on anything on grid

Try flying a freighter. You can't Look at anything while in the process of accelerating to enter warp, which in a freighter, is mind numbingly slow.

Pon Farr Memorial: once every 7 years, all the carebears in high-sec must PvP or they will be temp-banned.

If I were to guess, I'd say it's an attempt to limit the fidelity of the client-side simulation so it doesn't have to deal with stuff that's “too far off to care about in detail” — a LOD setting for the physics engine, if you like.

it does have a "functional" effect at least. When "looking at" a wormhole (gate?) cloaked nearby in order to hear the jump sound effect, you can no longer be further than 100 km, which places you in the range of other pilots "warping to" the wormhole at random distance (100 km being max) and thus there is a chance for them to decloak you. In general it forces you to move closer to stuff in order to look at them exposing you to more potential danger.

I consider this and the new maximum orbit start distance finaly fixed and working as intended :)
