You will hear that you are helpless against older players
You will hear that you need to train for 6 months before standing a chance in PVP
You will hear that T1 ships are useless
You will hear this and more

but in EVE, you make your own destiny

behold, someone killing a 100M+ isk tier 3 BC in a starter noobie ship.

Well that oracle pilot was a clueless n00b so I wouldn't put much weight on that video.

Yes, because that Oracle pilot was Eve's one and only moron flying ship too shiny for his skills and experience...
Right at this forum there is a still fresh thread started by a guy doing L2 missions in Naga...

I see what you did there Big smile

Looks like EVE is getting invaded by players who don't know how to fly ships properly and then ***** if people give them advice.

That guy is actually proud of his fail Naga in level 2's (medium guns on a Naga, damn should just pick the ferrox)

Well ... Big smile

I'm not so sure about this being an Inspirational Video or Cautionary Tale for NEW players.

The player who got the kill - has been playing since 2004 ... and their Velator had all T2 equipment.

Another factor in all this - is the match up between the ships.

The Oracle has no drone.

If the Oracle had had even one drone - that Velator would have been toast but these ships were designed by CCP to be vulnerable to just this type of attack.

Apparently - this player has done this before - but - to yet another version of this type ship - which also has no drone capability.

So ... if you're going to fly a Tier 3 Battle Cruiser with Battleship guns and no drone - look the **** out for Veteran Players in crappy ships who will make videos that make you look like a fool.

Now ... I didn't check out the fits for the Oracle and Tornado this guy killed - but as any number of us have said in the past - if you are a new player - and you're out there flying around in ships you can't fit and don't know how to fight ... you're asking to get blown up. If that guy in the Oracle had been able to tank the Velator the rats would have gotten it for him. As is, not having checked out the kill mail - I can't say what if any contribution the rats made to the Oracles destruction.

I also, not having checked out the kill mails, couldn't confirm the age of the player in the Oracle - the guy in the Tornado looks like he was 5 years old though ... unless it's a different guy.

As no one fits a Teir 3 BC with an active tank you would have killed him with T1 equipment and zero skills.

Any new player could have killed that guy straight out of the box. Which was the point of this post.

That actually depends if he had any resists or hardeners fitted and what his shield recharge rate was. I doubt any new player could have killed that guy straight out of the box. When I was really new, I used to do stuff like try to shoot down enemy ships with a mining laser. I was that dumb.

Then check out how the same dude scored a tornado in a safe without using probes in a noobship. Does that hold weight in your n00bish eyes?

This video is inspiration for new players on what will happen to them. Also guides them on what kind of attitude to have about it Bear

If he'd had T1 equipment the rats would have gotten him before he got the BC. He was almost in structure when he warped out after the fight. I don't think there's a lot of structure on a Velator.

Now ... I don't have one of those ships (just Drakes and Harbingers) ... so if you're telling me they couldn't tank a rookie ship with T1 stuff ... they're even more vulnerable than I thought.

I do however really find it hard to believe that one of these ships couldn't tank a rookie "right out of the box" - that is - equipped with a single rookie weapon and a rookie miner and nothing else. ?? Are you saying that they really that bad? Of course ... "right out of the box" he wouldn't have a warp scrambler either ...

I'm assuming that you didn't literally mean "right out of the box" but rather someone who was still relatively new, someone with at least enough experience to have fitted some T1 instead of Civilian equipment.

*shrug*

I will say this though - the video is a great demonstration of some of the things you can in fact do with a free ship and that link to the thread on using D-Scan to kill that Tornado was also very informative. So - thanks for posting it.

The old intro video used to be pretty inspiring. It gave you a ton of background while setting the stage for your new eve life

The new video is **** and just says "Hey you're in space, deal with it"

FC, what do?

Looks like they shifted the inspiration and efforts from the intro video to the new player tutorials. Been told the early tutorials were like "This is your ship, this is a gun and you can shoot people with it, this is a mining laser and you can shoot rocks with it, now go out and get killed".

Pretty much true, the old intro is very much superior but tutorials are vastly better now.

From reading the original thread, he replaced the civilian gun with a T2 Ion Blaster and I assume had T2 ammo in the thing. From the video, pretty sure it was all overheated as well.

Allright, allright, I wasn't going to go all technical but let's throw it in EFT

New guy L4 skills no advanced skills no thermodynamics

[Velator, Velator Noob]
Micro Auxiliary Power Core I

Warp Scrambler I

Modal Light Neutron Particle Accelerator I, Antimatter Charge S
Modal Light Neutron Particle Accelerator I, Antimatter Charge S

Hobgoblin I x2

88 DPS. Top speed 355 m/s (cap stable at 85%). Note that this DPS accounts for reload times.

Oracle's and other tier 3 BCs are never active tanked by anyone that has brains.
For standard Oracle fits that gives me (with my leet skillz)
Armor buffer tank 26.199 EHP but just 9 (!) defense. 264 m/s scrammed.
Passive shield tank 21.222 EHP with a whopping 37 defense. 287 m/s scrammed.

So can a single velator rookie ship kill an Oracle ? Given enough time and ammo yes it can.
Can the Oracle kill the velator ? If the pilot does not makes mistakes the Velator pilot should be safe.

And nothing is stopping new guys from ganging up in a group of these. A noobswarm can be a very dangerous thing.
