Repper or Buffer fit PvP

Hello

I have a few questions to ask the experienced pvpers

1.Do you use a repper or just buffer fit your PvP ships

I know that the standard practise is to buffer your ship and then have Logi support, but if you are solo or small gang is it dependant on your set up.

As far as i can see if you are a solo amarr boat you have plenty of Cap to run a Repper but if you are minmatar you will cap out pretty quickly

2. How many cycles of a T2 repper would be the same as a 1600 plate?

Your views would be appreciated.

Chances are you'll want a buffer, getting neuted while using an active tank sucks :(. If you carry cap boosters you may be able to manage a repper fit, but still... dubious.

Depends, really. An active tank can solo small fleets if you have HG implants, epic skills, t3 links, and deadspace fittings.

If you're actually talking realistically, though, it depends. For solo/small gang work, an active tank can be very decent on a defensively bonused ship for fights against 1-3 other opponents in similarly sized ships. Any more than that, and you will almost certainly melt.

Buffer tanks are a more safe, consistent option, as you'll always tank the same amount of damage regardless of how many ships are shooting you. This usually means you won't be garmon-style solo'ing tons of enemies at once, but you also won't be getting instapopped within seconds in harsher situations.

Typically, I go with an active fit for defensive bonused ships if I'm solo or with 1-2 friends. If I'm not in a defensively bonused ship, or I'm in a larger fleet, I'll use a buffer, because they're more consistent, and better for logis.

Active tanking is p. broken.

Abaddon battleship Armour without plates 10625 HP

With plates and trimarks 32128 HP

Difference: 21503

2x Large Armour Reps (with 3x ANP's) repair: 2256 HP every 11.25 seconds, or 200.5 HP a second.

It would require 107.2 seconds worth of repairing (Almost 2 minutes) before an active tank catches up with a plated setup. In general, if the DPS your receiving is over twice the amount your tank will repair, you would have lasted longer in a passive setup.

In the meantime, you would have consumed units of 7610 capacitor energy, whilst requiring an additional 5350 power grid to fit both the Armour rep and cap injector over dual plates...

Yes, you can reduce the deficit with faction modules, boosters and warfare links, but at the end of the day there will always be pilots like me, who long ago decided to use that extra power grid to fit energy neuts... or bigger guns.
