I've seen several players have success running it off a USB stick so it should work just the same. The only thing I would suggest is backing up your local settings as well as the EVE directory so you don't have to redo your overview every time :).

You'll get best results out of USB 3.0 enebled motherboards and USB 3.0 storage devices.

Wouldn't there be issues with registry entries not showing up?

No, EVE generates then on the first launch instead of during initial setup.

At least thats the way it has been for me.. my three EVE folders have been with me through 3 formats already. I just keep my cache folders and its all right.

You have to set up those settings of your overview anyways, because after each patch you have to clean your client's cache.
Your client going to be bugy if you fail to do so.
So, there is no reason to save local settings.
Better as always prepare yourself for an annoying reconfiguration over and over again

You must have a ****** computer because I've never once had to clear my cache to resolve some of the bugs after a patch install...

Overviews can be saved and loaded without the local data.

Only thing I ask is that CCP will get it to remember my colour settings, I like my alliance and allies in a shade of purple.

Cache is separate from settings. Settings includes stuff in the escape menu, window positions, and overview profiles and settings. Cache includes downloaded stuff like images. Not sure why clearing the cache fixes so many problems with patches, but it does. I'm pretty sure cache and settings used to be one thing, but it's not now and I'm not sure when they were separated. Clearing cache doesn't hurt any productivity/functionality... it just means the client will have to download some stuff again.

edit: to see where the cache and settings folders are (and they are separate folders) check the wiki article on "manually clearing the cache."
