CCP, is anything being done to address the issue being security appliances used by the ISP whose configuration is beyond the reach of the end user?

I am getting tired of having to connect to a (paid) VPN service to run repair.exe everytime there is a launcher patch. I am a IT professional and I know my system well enough to know my local software is not to blame for the launcher troubles.

My ISP is Starhub, which is one of the largest service providers in Singapore.

Several other eve players who use the same provider seem to be affected.

Unless some kind of fix is applied, our options are probably limited to using VPN services or changing to a different ISP at this time.

Or not playing Eve.

u have to run repair more than once. i have ran repair over 50 times before to get it fixed , it does fixes the client. the way CCP does their datastream, it seems packets get lost, so u have to randomly tikam tikam ... till the random fixation using repair fixes the entire program via multiple runs...

but we have a new problem, W7-64 ultimate ... eve doesnt run ...

after u ran repair till a state it is well done ... evefiles doesnt run ...
when u try updater, it does another layer of fixes, that destroys what repair has done ...
then u run repair again to fix what launcher has destroyed, or is repair destroying what launcher is repairing?
when you run updater, it does so w/o any glitches, but the launcher after that does not launches the EVE program, the evefile (as seen in taskmon) does nothing.

so what isit ? windows 64bit ultimate ... cannot play EVE ?

For me the launcher does not open the links.
If I click on the headlines on the right side, Internet Explorer opens, but stay empty no matter what.
Not a big deal, but still annoying when I want to the patch notes or other items of interest in that list.

To Kenryuu and Kanashiikami, I seems to have the same problem as both of you. The Launcher will run Updater which will render the Launcher unable to run (WIN 64-bit message). You may notice that the icon of the Launcher will change from the usual EVE icon to 'generic' windows executable file icon.

I had two computers, for some reason, after intense fiddling, i managed to get one working. I was not sure what I did right with the other computer.

FYI, running the Client directly from BIN folder bypassing the Launcher will start the client. But you need to run the Repair tools gazzilion times before running the ExeFile in the BIN folder.

EDIT: FOUND A FIX!
Found a workaround if you're on a PC or any kind of Windows Platform.
On your computer go to:
Computer (C:) > Program Files > CCP > Eve > bin
Scroll all the way down and locate the Eve logo that says "ExeFile"
Double click and somehow it miraculously bypasses that stupid launcher and takes you to the log in screen.
Good luck to everyone and fly safe.

Not working for me.

Thanks!!!!! I was on the verge of some serious uninstall and unsubscribe emo there. bit annoying I need to do this to get the game to play though. Anyone know how to delete the launcher and reinstall it without loosing the whole game?

FINALLY Big smileBig smileBig smileBig smile
this worked for me aswell

Well, as mentioned before, my workaround is simple and 100% effective.

Only problem is that it costs money - I have other uses for this so I do not mind... but folk may be hard pressed paying $10 a month just for a service enabling them to patch Eve.

I signed up for a VPN account with StrongVPN.

When the need arises to patch, I turn on VPN so all packets between my terminal and the VPN server in Germany are encrypted. This effectively renders ineffective any packet inspection hardware the my local ISP has, thus allowing me to successfully complete the patch.

Well, for about 2-3 weeks I had bad experience with both the launcher and the repair tool.
They never finished, and I was playing via immediate shortcut to exefile.
I was pretty sure it was CCP's fault - that's usually the case.
I decided to invest some time to try to fix it, so I copied repair.exe to an empty folder and let it download and install the client there.
Afterwards, I tried comparing the files with the ones from the original installation, and - with horror - I discovered that about six or seven of the (original) .stuff files were unreadable by the system! Some parts of them were on bad sectors (my SSD reported I/O error) and, so, could not be read completely.
I had no trouble playing the game so far, I guess I was lucky it had not encountered the need to load the specific parts.

After I copied the new version of the files from the new install directory, everything was fine.

So, it was not CCP's fault - but it leads to specific ideas for improvement on repair and launcher tools.

I'll let you plan for them.
