Umm not ready? all they have to do is buy the things and register them lol

Yet another unfinished aspect of Eve I guess. Does CCP ever finish anything they start?

Since they never actually started the security key things, this wouldn't be another case of such.

You'll be waiting a while for a link, but you'll probably get a response :p

What do you think connects these little keys to your account? Magic? Its a bit of a logistical task to get to that whole "just register" point. The client needs to be programed to take keys, and the host needs to know that your randomly generated key connected to a serial number would be per minute after you enter it in. etc etc etc

Ahh right, so they put resources into Ponies and Bunnies (NEX) instead of securing eve which they promised in Fanfest 2011 , well it wasn't to secure eve for us, it was to secure eve for CCP from BOT's.

They could take on a student, then have a very fat guy to sit on them if they get it wrong. Cheap labour is everywhere, use it. Perhaps they should outsource that little script jobbie to an American company in Atlanta.

Database queries (or in fact stored procedures) are so so difficult especially if one has to return true or false. To make it even easier it can just return true, that way it is half as complex and should take 4 times less people to do.

Doubt the NeXt team had anything to do with accounting and server programing.

So it takes 1½ years to implement an RSA keyfob system for an online game. A bank rolls out systems quicker.

This is not WoW, CCP is not brain dead like the WoW developers and did not use email addresses for account names like Internet nuubs.

Therefore this is not really needed.

I know but I am curious to see if CCP will ever do something to completion. So far, I cannot think of a single thing that was started and then finished :) Can you?

This.

But yes i do remember them telling the members of fanfest 2011 that they were all receiving keys as part of a beta test on the system, and that those keys were going to be working that month

CCP did mention during fanfest that it may become a feature of the Launcher.

That said, CCP could do a Yubikey deal get them at high volume discounts ($10 USD or less), set up a server and sell them to the players for 1 PLEX. Easy as pie, although I'm not sure how secure Yubikey is.
