The missing ISK sink: crews and crew salaries.

Currently, it seems that ship crews are made of tritanium and other metals and are slaves. Otherwise, how does a capital ship built in WH space get its crew?

Some of what I think I've seen on the forums indicate that CCP may feel there is too much ISK in the game.

How do we get ISK out of the hands of Pod Pilots and into NPC hands?

Simple, crews!

First, they can be "hired" off of the market from NPC corps that train them. At this point, they are transportable as livestock. You can resell them on the market, I haven't quite figured out the game-world reason for this.

Once you have a set of crew, you can inject them into your ship. You get X days of service that compensates them for their training. After this time is up, you have to pay your crew to remain aboard for another X or more days or they return to your cargo hold as "disgruntled crew." If you inject them into your ship, you'll need to pay their salary immediately. Crews may drop with wrecks and will work for one period for their rescue.

Additionally, there are different quality of crews. (May have multiple levels of quality beyond three, and some that improve and hurt stats)
Low quality crews will degrade performance of the ship somehow.
Average quality run the ships as they are today.
Superior quality crews will improve some stats (varying with the specialization of the crew.)

The various ship classes have different requirements in quantity of crews:
Newbie ships work normally without crews. (Better with superior ones.)
Frigates can operate without crews at the same ability as poor crews.
Frigates work normally with 1 average crew.
Cruisers require one crew unit.

Larger ships require multiple crew units to operate properly.
Capital ships require large numbers of crew units or specialized crew units to operate.

Congratulations, an unavoidable tax on flying space ships for all pilots in any security class.

Why?

What does this add to the game?

What happens when I can't/won't pay them?

Why didn't you just post in the other thread for THIS EXACT IDEA currently active in this very board?

This would unnecessarily widen the "power gap" between rich players and poor players. It also unnecessarily complicates a system that actually works fairly well as is.

Also... run searches on your idea before you post. It's annoying seeing the same general themes over and over again when those ideas have been shot down over and over again.

Because I saw a thread that suggested that there was too much isk being injected into the game.

More ways to get isk out of PCs hands into NPC hands.

Your ship (if it requires them) will be significantly degraded in capability.

Because I didn't notice it. Sorry. Here's a link for that thread now that I've searched for it: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=90290&find=unread
