Well.

I do not like people telling other people to go kill themselves at parties, at a gym, in a bus, on IRC, on Google+, on the streets. Does that mean I take parties, gyms, buses, IRC, G+ and streets "too seriously"? Why would a videogame environment be any different than any of the other places? It is, after all, just like you like to say, "just a game". It is just a thing I do in my life, for my pastime. Why would I not want the same standards of behavior from random strangers in it that I want in other pastimes?

Let me counter this: what makes this game so serious for you that you think it should be the exception to normal standards of behavior between adults? If it is "just a game", should we all not behave like we were, well, just playing a game, instead of making serious business about offending as many people as possible?

Because EVE is a culture. EVE has its own vernacular, its own behaviors, and even its own music. What other people see as terrible griefing actions, like scamming, we proudly beat our chests to and claim that its amazing player-made content.'

EVE even has its own Morality. It has been philosophized that morality is not a static entity, but one that changes with time, location, culture, and individuals for thousands of years, and yet people still seem stuck in the idea of "My morality is the only morality".

Vulgarity is part of EVE's culture. CCP, to a degree, accepts this. The player base accepts this. Even some of the media accepts this. So here's a question for you: Why can't you?

Not to mention that the original comment in question was about actions in the context of a Role Playing Game.

Um, yes we do. :P

One of the things that makes roleplay roleplay, as opposed to someone taking on a game persona that is not really a separate character but an aspect of themselves they use in the game context, is that roleplayers separate between in- and out-of-character.

EDITed: that was such a bizarre claim it has to be a troll, right?

Because he was at a convention about a role playing game. Talking about a role playing game.

It was... ok I suppose.

Anyway, While I agree that EVE and games in general in fact bring their own behavious and players can do what they chose to do, the way I see it, poeple put real money into playing this game (subscription costs) and deserve a little respect. Now if you scam someone iin game or smacktalk with them fair enough, but when they are clearly taking it hard out of game, then back off a bit. Taking the p*** out of them in public like that is immature and irresponsible and thats that.

On top of this, the CSM is supposed to be made of the people that we trust to keep eve progessing. You lot (goons) may want some massively elitist enviroment where you do what you want, but all you are doing is making sure new players don't want to stick around. We need new players to keep the game growing and stop it from stagnating, so a CSM leader that alienates and harrasses new players is definitely not what I want to see.

Would you like to expand on that in any way?
Or is it just "I feel your point is inalid and must be right as I much like Mittani like to abuse noobs"

I have to say too by the way - If the mittani was like

EPIC STORY ...and that is how I scammed 30 billion isk from a massive corporation and brought them crying to their knees!

I'd be like... Nice!

but hes done the equivalent of

NOT SO EPIC STORY ...and that's how I mugged an old lady for her bus fare as she was having an asthma attack in the street.

Its not exacly a challenge to scam noobs and make them cry.

22 macks - same dude. The story's pretty freaking epic. This guy was no noob.

Comparing that to mugging an old lady?

Priceless.

Of course hes a noob. For starters he trusted the word of goons.
The point is, people like that get scammed all the time. It's not a challenge to do. So why would anyone want to listen to some high and mighty ******* going on about how it made the guy upset? Basically Mittani likes to have fun at the expense of weaker individuals, which is pretty much the definition of a bully.

Seriously, I hope Mittani grows up a bit before he gets back, cos he really needs to.

The part where you said that Goons do nothing to help new players. The CFC, Goons and TEST especially, love new players. The CFC is pretty much the opposite of what you described. Generally the people who get scammed or blown up by "Goons and Friends" are actually people who have played the game for years.

Also, Mittens did tell the epic story of how he scammed billions of ISK, at fanfest. More precisely, he gave a shout out to a Goon who sold 7 Supers that didn't exist.
