Hurricane PVP fit advice

Hi,

I have an account that I have trained a 'pure' PVP pilot, currently been flying rifters and ruptures (armour tanked). Character has just under 16m SP, although my rupture skills (including supports that is) are not all at 5 I'm lookng to start trying some BS and Hurricane is the obvious choice.

Now I've iooked at various fits - both shield and armour tanked but they seem a bit 'old' (or in some shield tanks are clearly utilising nano build).

So, is there a general 'rule of thumb' people use - I'm assuming armour is more popular with fleets - but any thoughts or pointers would be useful.

FYI the alt has been in RvB but been dormant for a few months andso dropped - so may be looking for a low/nul-sec corp where I can learn some more PvP - hopefully that will help with any assistance.

thanks in advance.

The 'cane is a great ship, very versatile and they are actually plenty of 'good' fits for it

Probably the most common fit is nano-shield, typically flown with scimitars

ACs + neuts

MWD, shield buffer, point

gyros + TE + nanos + DC

Extender rigs and normally ECM drones

You can also go with an armour fit which normally has a web and/or cap booster in the mids, and armor buffer in the lows instead of nanos + TEs.

The 3rd main fitting type is alpha, when you pack 6 X 720mm arty, MWD, shield buffer + sensor booster and similar lows to the nano fit (with an RCU)

You really can tailor a hurricane to what you need, swap in ECCM, projectors, SeBos etc to how you want it, often when you are flying them the FC will tell you what he is looking for or you will already have a corp fit for cane ops.

as with every other ship there is no "one size, fits all" fit for any ship, what are you going to use it for? Gate camping? solo pvp? small gang? blob?

I love using the 'cane, and I have different fits for each situation.. buffer and/or armor tank seem to work the best on it, you get do shields, but I find it more of a hassle than it is worth. if you are in a corp, ask a few others about it, I can't link you a fit right now unfortunately, I'm in afghanistan using satellite internet lol.

Two tears in a bucket...

Hi George:

When I was in Minmatar FW, shield hurricanes where used 80% of the time on the Minmatar side, and 20% of the time on the Amarr side (the Amarr favored armor even when flying Hurricanes).

In piracy, speed tends to matter a lot, so it is shield gangs 95% of the time.

I do recommend getting battle cruiser 4 before taking out any battle cruiser for PVP; bc 5 makes a large difference and would be worth the wait.

Do fly with a t2 tank and use t2 guns. Whether you go AC or artillery will be based on your flying style as well as what your corp / alliance likes to utilize.

Thank you.

Thanks for that, personally not looking to pirate as not into 'tears'. It really depends I suppose on the corp I will joiin but would prefer small(ish) gangs rather than massive fleets so it would seem I should get BS to 4/5 asap and then start on my shield skills so that I can have the setup required by the corp and logis

Two options are commonly used:

1) Nano shield Hurricane. 425 autos, medium neuts, light shield buffer, longpoint, MWD, gyros/tes/dcu/nanos in your lows. Fly it like a bigger, slower Vagabond.

2) Armor Hurricane. Can roll with either 220s or 425s depending on the rest of your fit, either two mediums or a medium and a small neut, dual webs, MWD, and point. (Drop a web for a cap booster if you're paranoid about neuting.) Your lows should be a DCU, and a combination of 1600 plates, EANMs, and gyros. (Usually 1x DCU/1x plate/2x EANM/2x Gryo, but dual plate fits can work if you're willing to sacrifice DPS.)
