EVE Online Suicide Taunter Goes Well Beyond Apologising

The Mittani, a senior player in the EVE Online community and the man at the centre of yesterday's story about suicide taunts at a game convention, has gone well beyond apologising for his actions.

Saying that "actions > words" and that he hates it "when people use alcohol as an excuse" for their behaviour (The Mittani had clearly had a few during the panel), he has posted on Twitter that not only will he be resigning from his senior position within the game's community, but that he'll also be sending all of his remaining in-game currency to the "victim".

Some will say that, given the possibility the "victim" wasn't even being truthful in their actions, that's crazy. Even those aware that the real issue was simply attacking the player in the first place (as they couldn't have known whether it was genuine or not) might say it's a bit much, especially since his main apology was so sincere.

But hey, this is what it looks like when somebody takes actual responsibility for their mistakes.

I love the alteration to the language. The Mittani says he will resign, this says resign his senior position, what the hell does that mean?

The part I was "eh" about is that he plans to give the victim all of his remaining in-game currency?

Should anyone support what he did. NO he is not supporting it himself.
Should he resign. YES just like he said he would.
Should CCP issue a statement condemning the whole thing. YES or they will keep getting bad press only it will get worse.
Should the rest of the CSM issue a statement. YES anything would be better than running away for days.

Should anyone care what this psycho sexist campaign-sabotaging publord says NO
Should people just chill and watch Roadhouse instead YES

Will admit its good to see you don't know the difference between campaign spin and reality, but then that's what this is all about.

Never watched roadhouse sorry.

Any spelling, grammatical and punctuation errors are because frankly, I don't care!!

Old-ish info. He posted on his twitter that he would resign, but he posted that the moment he landed in the USA (the drama blew up while he was flying home). Two Step (next in line for CSM) asked him to think about it before making anything official ( https://twitter.com/two_step_eve/status/184449371847393280 ). Now the CSM is talking about it interally ( https://twitter.com/Seleene_EVE/status/184698227952582656 ).

It's Kotaku using non-Eve language since nobody outside of Eve players would have the slighest clue what the CSM is or what it even stands for.

"Look any reason why you need to talk like that? I have now reported you. I dont need to listen to your bad tone. If you cant have a grown up conversation then leave the thread["

Its by no means clear as yet whether he will be keeping his word. I get the impression he's playing for time, trying to see what (if any) formal punishment there will be from CCP for bringing the game into disrepute for his actions at fanfest, and trying to assess whether he can use the "CSM begged me to stay!" line to keep himself in position. All in all its still a pretty disgraceful display from Alexander Gianturco and if he truly had the game's interests at heart his resignation would have been swift and decisive rather than all this snakiness and trying to find a way to role out from under the consequences of his actions.

Another devastating piece of insight from official Eve playerbase spokesperson (and hater of Roadhouse), Jade Constantine. I too am sure that the Master Larper is just "playing for time" and not asleep after being thousands of miles away from home at a certain Eve fan gathering these past few days.

While his on the spur of the moment comment during Q&A was poorly chosen and indeed out of line, it is people like yourself that has been trying to put this game into disrepute by your actions and hyperbole. Wether you will succeed or not is written in the future. This game is famous for its meta-gaming and the game is not over yet.

Jade is not the one who made an ass of them selves on more than one occasion and then broke the EULA. I realize a small fraction of people voted for him from the Eve population and most of them have ALTs too. I believe most people outside of Eve know that everyone makes mistakes and those same people have to sometimes have to pay for them. Saying that its people like Jades fault that Eves name is being put in the dirt is your attempt at deflecting at best.

Sorry but we started our Roadhouse love-in WAY before 92:46 AM. Check the timestamps of our first post, it was like 89:14AM at the absolute latest

If he would keep his word and resign from the CSM most of this would be gone not just growing larger every day and further embarrassing EVE.

I agree. He still might get banned either way though. Does it really surprise you he is not stepping down after he said he would? I am waiting to seeing how CCP handles this.

He's defined by his persona - he suffered a moment of clarity after landing but has since shaken it off. I don't see this kid resigning willingly - he's way to invested.

Having had two friends commit suicide because of bullying in school over several years, this whole mess strikes my nerve pretty good...

It's not just a embarrassment for CCP, for EVE and all his players, it's a social disgrace someone wishes someone else to die, even provoking other people to make sure he dies.

I sincerely hope CCP does not let mitanus remain on CSM because that would send all the wrong signals.

Cyber bullying is OK? that is def. not a good signal to send, is it ?

Nothing happens if you are a psychopathic in RL? Im pretty sure something nasty would happen to him if he did this in RL in some school or corporation.

Matter if pretty simple: For CCP sake, for EVE sake and for all of us standard players sake, he must not be allowed to remain as chairman, cant be allowed in CSM where "ALL" player base is supposedly represented, and cannot be allowed to remain active in game to CCP and EVE sake.

Also: it's not the 1st time he wishes someone else to die in RL, been drunk cannot be used as a excuse, the story was on his PP.

I have faight in CCP to do the right thing, the hole industry is watching.

It's not the bully's fault someone killed their self.
