So a guy mocked a crying carebear playing the sympathy card during 'fanfest' aka 'drinkfest - so what?

If the guy was GENUINELY suicidal, there is no way he would be playing Eve. Having been to the brink myself a few years back - and Im not joking, I was standing on the top of the bridge - a guy who is actually on the brink of suicide would not be playing a computer game, this was just a guy playing the sympathy card, fishing for isk or at least to be left alone to mine. In other words, worthy of being mocked.

It actually does. However, it cuts both ways in this context. I don't even need to know what happened... CCP would be totally covered to do whatever they want here.

Quote:
ii. Termination of EULA
CCP may terminate the EULA, close all your Accounts, and cancel all rights granted to you under the EULA if: (i) you fail to pay the subscription fee when due; (ii) CCP is unable to verify or authenticate any information you provide; (iii) you or anyone using any of your Accounts materially breaches the EULA, makes any unauthorized use of the System or Software, or infringes the rights of CCP or any third party; or (iv) CCP becomes aware of game play, chat or player activity under your Account that is, in CCP's discretion, inappropriate or in violation of the Rules of Conduct. Such termination shall be effective upon notice transmitted via electronic mail, or any other means reasonably calculated to reach you. CCP reserves the right to terminate any and all other Accounts that share the name, phone number, e-mail address, internet protocol address or credit card number with the closed Account. Termination by CCP under this section shall be without prejudice to or waiver of any and all of CCP's other rights or remedies, all of which are expressly reserved, survive termination, and are cumulative. You will not receive a refund of prepaid subscription fees for a termination pursuant to this section.

*snip*

You may encounter and converse with people who are rude, offensive, belligerent, and who may use indecent, obscene, and/or threatening or harassing language while playing the Game. You may report any instances of such behavior to CCP. CCP will investigate and take such measures as CCP, in its sole judgment, determines are reasonable under the circumstances. CCP does not guarantee that you will not encounter behavior of others that you may view as insulting, demeaning, offensive, threatening or harassing. You assume all risk associated with playing the Game, and CCP assumes no responsibility for the conduct of any other players, and shall not be liable to you or any other person for their conduct.

if i like Mittani or don,t like him it doesn,t matter much.
What matters what CCP thinks, if this is message is escalating on to the more important game sites
There are 3 sides of the storie

1 guy saying to commit suicide
1 guy saying let make him do it
the ones that listen to the above person and are the ones who are just as criminalas he is (at least in some countries)

if this happend on some out of EvE forum nothing would come to our attention
But this happened in a big event organised by CCP herself

I don,t think they react today ,but they have to tomorrow
Good luck Mittens ,you need it

They went to far with this at the panel.

What they did at the panel was no longer a game anymore.

This is rather sickening actually, I waited to see what it was about cause i missed it and finally got around to looking at it.

This is practically criminal conduct.

There are real people behind the accounts we play.

Advocating pushing someone to kill themselves is freaking evil. The its just s joke line doesn't hold up under scrutiny.

I'm very disappointed in everyone that took part in that panel.

They crossed the line with this. And CCP should be ashamed for it since they hosted this scummy crap.

People need to stop talking about whether the guy is really suicidal, it does not matter.

Eve if the whole mail was faked, it doesn't matter.

As far as CCP, their Partners and Investor's are concerned, the second this issue appeared outside of the Eve and started to appear on popular external gaming sites (hopefully it goes no further) it became a "CCP and their players humiliate and mock potentially suicidal player"

You have The Mittani, the newly re-elected Chairman of a Council elected by the players of Eve, a auditorium of players and CCP employees at an official CCP event , all being filmed and broadcast live (now available on youtube and other sites), getting drunk and joking about somebody being suicidal.

On top of that you then have the Mittani encouraging people to contact him.

To many people outside of the Eve community this will just come across as a bunch of drunken idiots at an official gathering encouraging other people to mock and humiliate a person who could be suicidal, and then encouraging others to mock him further.

In a lot of countries you have many people constantly trying to blame computer games for many of societies problems, something like this is pure gold to them.

The last thing CCP, their Partners and Investors want is this type of publicity.

No way you swing it, it looks very very bad

The guy wasnt actually suicidal though, he was just playing the sympathy card. Mocking some butthurt carebear is fine, thats all that happened here.

In fact, if the Goon-vermin go after this guy full force, he might become suicidal as a result of the very very public attack

The appropriate response was to ignore it or attack him in a less public way.

NOTE:
Goon-vermin refusal to "talk with" people they can't threaten makes them thugs.

It's not the goons' responsibility to determine if the guy is suicidal, or just a whiner playing the sympathy card.

It's a real suicidal person's task to remove themselves from situations that cause anxiety and seek professional help.

By your definitions no PVP game should exist because you might make a suicidal person kill themselves.

I don't think the display was very tasteful, but I also think nobody here is actually using their heads and using logic to analyse the situation.

So, it's okay to actually attack an actually suicidal person who actually kills himself so long as you weren't 99.99% sure that he was actually suicidal?

Or maybe just because he didn't avoid you so really it's actually HIS FAULT for what you did?

You guys sure come unglued fast when the other side stops being nice, don't you? Sing for me little Goon, sing.

You dont know that. You cant make that claim.

They crossed the line that should not be crossed. This is not a game anymore after what they did on that panel.

This is a game that is proud of gankers. Proud of the harsh world that is Eve. This wont really affect them that much - if anything, the subscriber base will increase as the game is brought under the public eye.

Why are people still babbling on about Psychology? It's irrelevant.

The issue is that The Mittani, as a CSM, suggested to people that they break the rules by harassing someone. That's it. It's been said before (self-quoting for the win):

Why do you people always blur the line between the mittani the Goon Alliance leader (note the pannel name in question here); eve pilot and the mittani the CSM chair?

just becase you are on the CSM doesn't mean your eve play is dead and no longer allowed. get over your selves all ready TIA.

This is far past eve play. This is trying to basically lead to a real death of a real human being for his own personal amusement. What he did would be considered a serious crime in many countries if that person really did take their life after this.

He best pray to whatever gods he does or does not believe in that this person doesn't die any time soon, or he will have serious legal problems on his hands.

First and for most, who is your main, and what does he do?

I just can't decide if this is a troll or not, I mean really, how dumb are you? You might want to step out side for a bit, you might find out that oxygen from trees will help with your delutions and the feeling that your are great is only correct at your moms house.

who is your main, and what does he do?

Any good feelings that fanfest had were just sunk by what they did.

This took the step past trolling that should not be crossed.

I'll go one step further than Mittani. Anyone that threatens me with suicide really should commit suicide if the intent is to stick it to my conscience. I might actually sleep better at night, knowing that I was the reason someone irrelevant killed him or herself.

It is absolutely 100% ok to do whatever you please to them in this video game, as long as it lies within the parameters of gameplay set forth by CCP.

Their mental condition is in no way your concern, they chose to play the game, this can happen in THIS game, not. your. problem.

Don't try to take my words out of context by cleverly leaving out the fact that we're talking about something that happened in a video game.
