There are a lot of different points that need addressing in this scenario- the most interesting aspect is the law and the law concerning the internet and online gaming is getting more and more attention from the media and the courts- and ccp will be taking this into consideration while investigating the incident.

The Mitanni’s encouragement of the persecution of another player in eve may be against CCP's Eula. EU law states that it is not illegal -"Posting a general opinion on a discussion board or in a forum is not considered cyber harassment" however it does linger on another law of 'Harassment through the Digital Medium'

Alexander Gianturco aka the mittani encouragement or 'cyber bullying' of another player until said player kills himself- as he said in Iceland on Friday is an interesting scenario- as it could possibly tie in to the interesting law of "Encouraging or assisting a suicide as a criminal offence"

In most states in Europe this is criminal law (apart from Switzerland- but I’m still unsure of Iceland). So technically if this was law in Iceland Alexander Gianturco could be charged.

^^this probably bores most players to tears- but i can understand why CCP are investigating it as they have facilitated Alexander Gianturco in voicing this. It interests me because this is has some relation to what I do.

Should the Mittani still be CSM Chair? Well, that’s up to CCP, I personally voted for him as he sounded like a smart guy and I agreed with a lot of what he said about the game- but i personally think he has overstepped certain boundaries in this case.

Does CCP want the head of their gaming council a guy who encourages the harassment of other player until their real life death?
Sounds very grim to me- but it wouldn’t' surprise me.

TLDR: Mittani did a bad thing IRL and would reflect badly on CCP

I'm with Brick on this one- make thouse carebearing b******s squeal..

Hi, I am Ntrails. You may recognise me from previous excellent posts like "The Mittani is a smug ****", and "that's not my titan, that's my penis".

I would like to say that on behalf of my corporation, and many other member corporations in Goonswarm federations alliance, we are enacting procedures designed to strip this flagrant psychopath of his powers in this Alliance. Not because of this go harass a dude outcry, but because of the pegging comments. I really cannot believe that they are being ignored over this obviously trivial matter.

The Mittani was voted in by a huge majority, and to consider kicking him from it just goes to show how little you care about the playerbase. CCP, this is where you need to show the same restraint you showed previously when other unpopular things have happened. At Fanfest you made many comments about listening to the players, and why look further than your own CSM results. As pointed out in many other threads, Mittens has received over 10,000 votes in this last election. Listen to the playerbase CCP.

What makes you think that the 10000 votes mean anything right now. No one voted before this happened.

-1 BTW, as much as I liked his platform. Saying find him about a player even suspected of being suicidal is just going to far in my book.

I don't care enough as current to make a huge issue over this, but I would not complain if the investigation kicks him off ether.

So next year he might only get 10,057 votes

Its why they tell people to "LOOK FOR SIGNS" of suicidal behavior because genuine suicidal people don't make their intentions public. Mittens just harped on this fact and apparently all the softies got mad.

Well, as I mentioned elsewhere I know of at least one account of a person who did in fact commit suicide stating his intent before hand.

Another thing that's probably worth consideration here is the anonymity of the Internet. The ongoing phenomenon of people saying and doing things they might otherwise not do, due to social pressures, could also have an effect here and I don't think we can just assume that because people don't usually warn about their suicide before hand in person...that they won't on the Internet to complete strangers.

Another thing I'd like to stress is that the factual nature of his suicidal tendencies are rather beside the point to me on the issue. The kind of griefing that The Mitanni was encouraging is not a legitimate game tactic, but cyber-stalking/bullying plain and simple.

Mittani himself proved that he does not suit into a responsable position. Remove him from the CSM.

His speech was funny, of this i have no doubt as people were laughing throughout!

Funny it maybe - attempting to gather support for a mass act of bullying is pretty ****** (expecially when it can lead to death)

However, i dont think that this was really the point. the point was proberly to get people wound up and effectively be trolled!

My opinion is that this is a successfull troll and nothing more, but hey.

smoke me a kipper i'll be back for breakfast.

People also laugh when they see something that they don't know how to react to. In live theater, when someone is depicted as getting raped on stage, most of the audience will laugh and not even realize it. Actors are trained to expect this response because it is so unexpected, You just don't see it coming until the first time the scene is publicly performed. People laugh when they are not sure what to do.

I disagree with you here, I my self (warning RLE being apply) have been to events with the shock value of ****, and the only time I have seen laughter at the sight of **** was when the stage was preset and the out come was in fact very funny, not some random act.

I would also like to know who your main is, and what does he do.

who is your main, and what does he do?

I will only say this,
presidents and ministers of real life countries resigned for smaller things.

This all is not because he said that, its because he is elected and he is, because of it, responsible for his actions and words.

So, how many people do you know who have deliberately pushed suicidal people as hard as they can... and then the suicidal person killed himself/herself?

I can think of two in my own personal experience.

I would be AMAZED if you didn't know at least one.

It is quite pleasing to know that there are fellow GOONS who are equally disgusted by Mittani the Great's misconduct.

Goons, we all know that Mittani was a great leader, but that's past now.

Find a new leadership who can better suit the community.

Goons will prevail under better leadership.

And most of the players attacking him are NPC Corp Alts.

Hmmmmmmmm.

Yeah, well, what do you expect when the person under discussion makes public calls for players he dislikes to be harassed? That his critics will hand over names and telephone numbers? Because he can be trusted not to take things too far? Hmmmmmmmmmm.

it is not ok to be a CSM chairman and behave like that,
(note that i dont think this is ok in any case. but beeing a csm chairman is tipping this off a bit further.)

The person in question wasn't really suicidal. He was attempting to garner sympathy after getting scammed and then blown up.

If the "mad about Mittani" crowd gets their way any time something happens in-game that you don't like you can just cry about being suicidal and get rewarded.
