People also laugh when they see something that they don't know how to react to. In live theater, when someone is depicted as getting raped on stage, most of the audience will laugh and not even realize it. Actors are trained to expect this response because it is so unexpected, You just don't see it coming until the first time the scene is publicly performed. People laugh when they are not sure what to do.

With so many threads screaming to ban The Mittani for what he said, I figure it is more than right to offer my own thoughts on what happened.

I do not think what was said was tasteful, but in fairness, this is just the way the Mittani is. CCP knows this, or should know this after working with him for so long. I forget the guys name (the new CCP guy at the keynote speech at the end) but he even mentioned that the players are the ones who are doing the advertising for EVE. This is a perfect example of that advertisement. GSF and Mittani are rather well known for a variety of scamming and other things that make EVE what it is.

"We are undertaking a full internal review of this panel as well as the process used for vetting the panel's materials. Even though this panel was billed as unfiltered by CCP, we expect public presentations to be courteous and professional towards others."

^this. As you said, this was an unfiltered panel, and many of the presentations during Fanfest were not family friendly anyway. Does this mean you are going to do away with the other events as well?

Additionally, the player who sent the mail...it takes all of two seconds to realize how full C&P is of whining and people seeking attention. There are many people who are willing to whine and talk about their own troubles in EVE...cough Did you do anything about that? No, because it is ridiculous to even think about it. I do think it is classy that you guys are willing to look after him and make sure he isn't getting harrased (see previous news link), but even considering punishment of Mittani would be ridiculous. Especially all these people whining about kicking him from his rightfully earned spot as CSM Chairman. As Ladie Harlot put it in another thread, "So we should ask for a psych evaluation of every pilot before we blow up their ship?" EVE is a game, and anyone who can't take it, shouldn't be playing it. The game has its ups and downs, but that is what EVE is.

The Mittani was voted in by a huge majority, and to consider kicking him from it just goes to show how little you care about the playerbase. CCP, this is where you need to show the same restraint you showed previously when other unpopular things have happened. At Fanfest you made many comments about listening to the players, and why look further than your own CSM results. As pointed out in many other threads, Mittens has received over 10,000 votes in this last election. Listen to the playerbase CCP.

Here's a tip for you 5:

In order for a fire to burn you need oxygen, stop giving the fire oxygen it goes away. All the people who constantly fill the forums with Mittani this Mittani that, Goons this Goons that, really just need to read Frankenstein's Monster, then you will get it.

You should read the thread if you want background. The quick version is that this person was apparently very rich in the tears that these plays love so much. He is referred to as depressed and suicidal. If the thread is accurate, our CSM chair encouraged people to get in touch with this guy and harass him further and gave out his name at the panel. Someone followed this up by posting one of the guy's eve mails to the forums.

These are major eve players actually encouraging people to cause a play psychological harm, and in a PUBLIC context outside the game. This cannot be accepted.

What makes you think that the 10000 votes mean anything right now. No one voted before this happened.

-1 BTW, as much as I liked his platform. Saying find him about a player even suspected of being suicidal is just going to far in my book.

I don't care enough as current to make a huge issue over this, but I would not complain if the investigation kicks him off ether.

And most of the players attacking him are NPC Corp Alts.
