You are wrong. Anybody who threatens suicide over a video game deserves to be mocked.

As I recall the last person whom threatened suicide over Eve was a botter scared he'd be perma banned. CCP called the police & tracked it down to an Italian man... Icelandic police refferred it to the Italian police whom knocked on his door & made sure he's ok. ( True story from an Italian newpapper )
An' then Chicken@little.com, he come scramblin outta the Terminal room screaming "The system's crashing! The system's crashing!" -Uncle RAMus, 'Tales for Cyberpsychotic Children'

You aren't allowed to do that anymore. Trust me.

I just checked, I'm pretty sure I'm still allowed to press the unsub button...

You are no longer allowed to incite others to do so.

Wildfire. This things got legs.

Because the same unsubstantiated story has appeared on two websites nobody has ever heard of? lol

Doesn't matter. Even if is an astro-turf story planted by anti-Mittani nutters, it forces CCP to issue a statement that they're false stories, which then forces CCP to address the "scandal." By forcing CCP's hand, it could lead to a rushed, non-optimal decision by them.

Again, the whole damn thing could have been defused before it got off the ground.

Or they could continue to ignore it since it's just a handful of crazy people who hate Goons.

You're still not thinking it through.

If the story is false, then CCP *must* deny it immediately or risk other news sites from picking up the story and then either re-running it as is or doing investigations of their own. The longer the "scandal" is out in the wild, the greater the chance of it flaring out of control and the more difficult it will be for CCP to spin/handle the negative publicity. And the greater the negative publicity, the greater the punishment that will be handed down on Mittani.

Again, this is becoming less about something said in bad taste or even a character assassination attempt and is instead turning into an out of control situation for other people to generate ad revenue with a sensationalist story.

Are you kidding me? Encouraging other players to partake in a possible suicide of a mentally unstable person is "acting fine?"

Its a joke. I know. But it has gone too far.

Anybody who threatens to commit suicide over a video game deserves to be mocked.

So goonswarm jihaddists are mockworthy?

You can defend your overlord all you want. I know that anyone who does that is probably bluffing, and this guy is no exception. But even if there is a slight chance of it being true, you can't publicly encourage people to mock him until he commits suicide, even less if you represent a community.

So in the future anytime somebody gets scammed all they have to do is threaten suicide and CCP will have to cave in to them?

You got it all wrong. This has nothing to do with him threatening to kill himself, is about the CSM chairman publicly encouraging people to mock him until he commits suicide.

No no no. We do not want ANYONE to unsub their accounts. It only requires simple action from CCP: dismissing Mittani the Great from his unwarranted CSM Chairmanship.

No more red carpet treatment for Mittani the Great.

No more operating expenses spent on Mittani the Great's flight and longing expenses to Iceland.

Ok...let me preface this by saying that I'm not a "NPC corp alt", but in fact a new player. Therefore, my opinion doesn't matter. However, I'm going to give it anyway:

1. Whether or not a player is "suicidal" is irrelevant.

2. The rules explicitly state that harassment is not permitted.

3. The Mittani publicly requested people to harass this player in an out-of-game forum (albeit one sanctioned by the game company).

This seems to me to be more like a Charles Manson-esque situation. He's suggesting that people should break the game rules. He's not actually breaking any rules himself, and whether or not people choose to harass this guy is their decision. From a purely logical standpoint, The Mittani has broken no rules.

The real argument here is whether or not having a CSM member suggest that players break game rules "for the lulz" is acceptable conduct. Well, that's subjective. There's no ruleset there. That's something for CCP to decide, not us (or since I'm a noob, I guess it's more for "you" to decide since none of you probably consider me to be part of your little e-Spaceship group).

Personally, I think he should at least apologize for requesting people break the rules by harassing this guy. However, I think removing him from the CSM panel would be a bit illogical as once again, he hasn't actually broken any rules.

What I would suggest is that CCP further codify CSM conduct, and CSM term limits may not be a bad idea. Again, my useless opinion but I'm tossing it out there.

Thank you for ignoring my noob pubbie wall-o-text. Did I use that "pubbie" expression right?

No, it's about how CCP deals with people pretending to be suicidal to avoid having to face consequences of their actions in-game.

You've chosen a poor example. In your example above, you are just playing the game and therefore there is nothing you could have done other than not play the game.

I don't care. What part of that do you not get? My moral code is far different from your moral code. You are not allowed to define what my moral code is and that's a fact of life. Morality has always been subjective to interpretation and how we define things to be good and bad on a case by case basis. For me, if my actions caused another person to threaten to kill themselves, why am I responsible? They make the choices themselves and I will never ever care. It has nothing to do with being a sociopath. It has to do with poor decisions that people make every day.

"I'm going to kill myself."
"Okay. And?"

From what you've written, I take it Karadion is probably an alt of the Mittani?

If your actions goaded someone into doing something then you are at least partially responsible for the outcome. It's not just about someone making poor decisions some people can be influenced by others and in the case of people with mental health issues they're even more vulnerable.

This is a completely ridiculous statement. If someone is pushed over the edge and commits suicide because I wore brown shoes, that in no way inculpates me.

Reductio ad absurdum, certainly. But the principle holds. People are ultimately responsible for their own actions. Trying to insinuate some moral culpability because someone may have committed suicide because people on the Internet were mean to them is ridiculous.

You will report out-of-game issues regarding harassment, such as threatening phone calls or correspondence, to your local law enforcement officials or Internet provider. CCP will not reveal personal information about its subscribers to unauthorized individuals. We are not responsible for actions taken by our subscribers that occur outside the jurisdiction of our game servers or web site.

If Mitty would have destroyed that conference room the panel was in CCP would have had to pay to have it fixed. I would say it was in their jurisdiction. It was the eve fanfest, not Mitty's goonfest.

so is fanfest game servers or web site?

As a subscriber of this great game, you have no lesser rights than those who have played more, but certainly vastly more than someone who brings negative media exposure to our EVE Online. You are on a equal footing relative to all others who subscribe this game. Your voice is equally valued.

I see that you fail to see my point, so I'll post an example to see if I can make people understand.

Imagine for a moment that this guy was honest about commiting suicide. I know is highly unlikely, but WTH, stranger things have happened. So now the chairman of the CSM makes his evemail public and as a result of that he receives hundreds of mails mocking him. That situation finally makes him hang himself.

Would you still defend what he did if it came to this case?
