If the Lawyer claim isn't just more of his BS, then he must be a pretty bad one, otherwise he wouldn't have found himself in this situation.

Reckless and ignorant people are usually the ones to hire Lawyers, not be lawyers themselves.

What if someone threatened to kill themselves if people keep making terrible threads about idiots who threaten to kill themselves over space pixels?

Would you guys be morally compelled to stop making terrible threads? Would you be morally compelled not to mock them for their obvious ridiculousness?

The whole point is people threatening to kill themselves over inconsequential stuff is ******* ridiculous and deserving of mockery.

Right or wrong Mittani is gone. Its already hitting the media and with cyber bullying being as much of a hot button topic as it is, any company in their right mind would distance themselves as much as possible from something like this. He's gotsta go. All there is to it.
No, he isn't. Good thing you're not CCP. Nor did Mittani sign the TOS or EULA to attend fanfest.

Where did you get your psychology degree?

He doesn't need one. Normal, healthy minded human beings with a decent sense of morality are bound to believe that encouraging suicide is the act of a sick individual that needs to be removed from any position of authority, and given councilling.

Big difference between mocking someone and telling everyone to drive them to suicide.

Mittani's antics may have been in poor taste (and I voted for him)

but this is shaping up to be a witch hunt, and I would bet that a good deal of those instigating it don't really give a damn about this guy who is threatening suicide as a means of guilt tripping as much as they give a damn about dethroning Mittani and/or getting the goons banned.

Besides, if CCP boots Mittani, just how many players are going to leave with him?

That's what you guys just aren't getting. He was mocking the very idea that this guy was actually going to kill himself over space pixels. Because he wasn't, because people don't. The whole idea that someone would kill themselves over space pixels is so preposterous, and it should be mocked. He should be mocked for trying to hold people hostage in a game with threats of suicide.

The real solution here is to ban people who talk about killing themselves in a video game. Those are the people who should be suffering consequences.

I'm not sure why you are defending a manchild who got divorced over his addiction to Eve Online through the usage of his 22 accounts. That idiot brought up that he might off himself. Mittani never solicited him to do it in the first place. You're acting that using suicide to get their way is a perfectly acceptable method when it's not. ALl I see here are crybabies looking for an excuse, anything, to get the goons banned from the game. I've scammed at least 80 miners during the mining interdiction and at least 4 of them have threatened to kill themselves if I don't give back their isk. It's not my damn problem that they are willing to try and use it as a bargaining chip. If anything, threatening suicide in this game should be an instant permaban.

Who says I'm defending him or Mittani?

My point is that Mitt probably crossed the line between in-game and out-of-game douchebaggery, that it wouldn't take much for this to blow up into a scandal that will require CCP's action, and that Mitt, the CSM chair, isn't handling the situation as seriously as he should be.

Anyone whose reputation is built around being a flamboyant douchebag shouldn't enter a sympathy contest with an allegedly depressed suicidal individual, especially if that contest is going to be judged by public opinion. Seriously, if this "scandal" hits the game sites or finds a quasi-mainstream news reporter desperate for a story, Mitt is going find himself censured or worse.

Plus, if the negative publicity keeps up, I'm thinking that the next fanfest's presentations are going to have less drinking and more lawyers.

I would expect that if CCP does boot Mittens even though he's not guilty of anything other than making pubbies mad that a lot of people would find another game to call home. If you look at who is complaining about him it's the same small handful of nutters who don't like Goons in general and they have all latched onto this as their latest attempt to accomplish what they are unable to in-game.

My hope is that those with some moral decency will fill in the missing spots that morally deprived goons will cause.

If CCP does not punish Mittani the Great, EVE Online would be a laughing stock amongst other major game publishers.

On the up side, Eve online is going to get a bit of media attention out of it. Score.

CCP needs to look at this latest wave of terrible idiot posting and ban the ability to post ANYWHERE (outside of new player yadadad) under the same rules CAOD does.

On the article in question, I posted this comment:

Quote:
Well, this is a poor choice of words.

Video of the incident is freely available online and was streamed live, so why exactly are you listening and reporting the testimony of one attendee?

Anyone with any sense can see that the statement was made as a joke; you cannot honestly believe he stood in public and advocated forcing someone into suicide, with the expectation that his death would be the result?
