Mittani should be held liable to his words. That he still finds this funny and only states: "deal with it!" as a reponse, just shows his true character more clearly.

I encourage everyone to petition this to CCP if you feel Mittani crossed the line in this matter.

In the end i would like to quote:

"CSM Representative Conduct

Any behavior or actions considered being a material breach of the EULA or TOS by a CSM representative is grounds for immediate dismissal and permanent exclusion from all pending and future participation in the council. There are no exceptions, regardless of the infraction. Representatives are not only expected to uphold the social contract that all society members are held accountable to, but should also set a behavior standard for everyone else to follow."

I think the issue is that you don't sign an EULA or ToS to go to fan fest and speak publicly.

Out of game actions: surprisingly not governed by CCP. Although it'd be grand if they could nerf my neighbor's Lamborghini. Then buff the IT industry so I can afford one myself.

Wait, CCP for government?

The OP has some very legit points.

Since that awful alliance panel I really respected The Mittani. I even had some respect for the Test Alliance people. But that was completly destroyed by that nonsense. Sorry Mittani, you seemed to be a very good CSM candidate so far, but you crossed a line here.

@Ladie Harlot: Since when is Goonswarm the "Third Reich"? I think you are clearly crossing a line here. I'm fine with what you do ingame and with many of your stupid mockings. But you are going way to far now with your comments.

Thankfully the chairman position doesn't mean much and there are over all much more respectable and sane CSM delegates left who can keep The Mittani in check.

And what line was that? The one that you define your moral code? Everyone's moral code is different and yours certainly isn't mine.

Threatening with suicide in a game losing pixels is very pathetic.

Feeling the need to stomp upon those who do, equally so.

If I'm right then we all have a good time mocking a stupid person. If I'm wrong then he removes himself from the gene pool.

Either way is a win for humanity.

Sorry, but to encourage people to mock (from your point of view) "stupid" people and call it a "win for humanity" when they commit suicide because you mocked them is crossing a serious line here.

I understand that you Goons really like things like this, when you upset a big part of the community and laugh about it for days. I'm okay with that in general but you have to understand that you crossed a big line here. You simply are going way too far and should stop right here. There are points were this stops beeing a game.

The Mittani has built himself a brand (same as any other celebrity figure), his is that of a brash, offensive super douche but it gets attention inside and outside of eve.

So what more did you expect?

Personally, I see stuff like this and just think "I see what you did there".

God I hate being in a marketing company some times :P

Anyway,
If someone can be pushed to suicide by means of mails from the fanbase of a computer game, maybe humanity would be better off without them.
Not saying I think that, just posing it as a point for debate.

Are you kidding me? Encouraging other players to partake in a possible suicide of a mentally unstable person is "acting fine?"

Its a joke. I know. But it has gone too far.

The mental unstable "person" you're talking about clearly needs a family, not an internet space ship game.
You should be blaming his parents or his wife/husband, are you after them? -no, so STFU

Having watched the video (didn't watch it at the time but with all these comments decided to watch it) I personally feel like the comments and impact are being blown out of proportion.

I think most people who have ever experienced depression or known someone who suffers depression know that other peoples comments don't really make any difference, positive or negative that is what makes it so hard for families and friends because they are powerless to help. The individual has to work it out for themselves.

This is a game and if your getting that worked up about it, its not really fair to hold someone else responsible for it. If I lose a ship or blow someone else's ship up playing a game and they get upset about it should I expect to become responsible for the life of that person in RL?

If someone is feeling that bad in RL they need to take responsibility and go and seek professional help for their own well-being, their family and their friends you cant blame people who you have never met playing an internet spaceship game.

Start wide, expand further, and never look back

Just a thought, but this kind of action may be construed as incitement to commit suicide?

I don't really know. However, inGAME actions? Mittani can do what he likes.

However, he made his suggestion OUT OF GAME. Fanfest is not INGAME.

Two things from that.

One: Ingame rules no longer apply - he cannot be banned because he made no ingame threat or action to incite suicide or whatever.

Two: Check Icelands laws regarding inciting others to end thier own lives. It might come under assisted suicide laws.

Regardless, it was MORALLY wrong, and 'as a joke' is a **** poor excuse for that kind of comment.

I understand your point I I accept the "Mittani and Goonswarm brand". I have no problem with that.

What I expect, especially from someone who represents a part of the community (no matter what part) knows were the limits are and sees when their jokes go to far. Nothing against jokes of that kind in general (some of the other mocks like that were really funny), but as I said, there is a limit. Mittani and Goonsworm crossed that line and I'm sure not out of pure evilness or something but because they lost their touch to reality to some extent. Not everything is a game. Of course it's not that easy when reality and game cross each other like in EvE.

You should understand that there are very sensitive people out there. Maybe that mail wasn't real. Maybe you think that humanity would be better without them if they are that unstable. But that is an highly ethical debatte that this platform has really no place for. Things like this can happen, even to a stable person.

Oh my humble apologies for tarnishing your great reputation, Mittani the Great. I just hope that you think twice before asking thousands of other players to partake in an act to provoke a mentally unstable person to commit suicide.

Why would he care about his reputation among NPC corp alts?

Obvious for anyone with half a brain ( it is obvious now goons dont belong to this group ) that behind alt hides real person/player that is smart enough to hide his in game identity to protect it self again the most powerful and at the same time emotionally immature person in EVE.

I'd like to chime in on this.

I suffer from clinical depression. It varies in severity based on circumstances and the given day, and will pretty much be with me for the rest of my days. I don't keep it under control by bitching and whining about it online, I do it through a mixture of happy pills, exercise, willpower, a good diet, work and routine. I have to agree with Simi that the casual use of suicide as an attention seeker or threat, especially online, only reinforces the stigma about depression not being a disease but a character "defect". People who do this trivialize what isn't trivial, and he/she deserves the abuse they received.

Ultimately, when I was at my zenith, only I could pull myself out. Only I can beat back what Churchill called "the black dog." I will graciously accept the help of family and friends but in the end it's my responsibility to manage my depression and keep buggering on. What I will not do is attempt to guilt trip others, especially strangers, into feeling sorry for me. That is simply pathetic.

Damn your perspective and logic!

I'll just add that I went through a period of severe depression myself years ago (bad breakup and consequences). It was not a good time in my life. The hardest part was bringing my family together and letting them know what was happening.

But you know what? If, at any point, I had told my family that I was considering killing myself over a ******* video game, my father would have handed me his gun and said "Don't make a mess in the house".

There's a huge difference between "cry for help" and "whining drama queen". People need to get some perspective in their lives.

You realize it wasn't just goons that voted for him, right? Six of those votes are from me, and I know a number of other people in -A-, cascade, nulli etc. that all voted for him.

Say what you like about goons, Mittani's attitude and massive douchebaggery in the face of armies of forum warrioring terribad care bears perfectly represent my views of Eve, and where I would like the game to go in the future.
