Oh, and Chaucer called - he says you're both spelling it wrong.

Did Chaucer use an iPhone or Android? Want to be sure we're historically authentic when texting each other.

When Eve was first launched, the works of Chaucer were widely available in libraries worldwide and digitised (digitized?) upon the internet. Not a single iPhone or Android phone existed anywhere.

Therefore, by my twisted and incomprehensible non-sequitor disguised as logic I shall proclaim that Chaucerian English would be a more proper standard to be used in Eve than Apple/Google English :o)

I'm not mad per se, so i'm in before some idiot decides to spray his internet e-peen all over the place, I find it quite upsetting that people who use alternate methods of spelling are forced to spell like Americans. I have no quarrel with Americans, I find it unfair and quite frankly biased that i'm not given a choice to whether or not I can spell English the way I was taught in England

Another one of my pet hates. The word you're looking for is 'alternative'. The word 'alternate' is a verb.

Anyway, back on topic.

I speak English, not American. I don't drop key words from a sentence in order to 'dumb down' and simplify my speech. And I spell words correctly, rather than phonetically.

We can understand what they're trying to say, but I don't know too many people here in the civilised world who consider Americans to be speakers of English. P

This shouldn't really be a surprise considering America is rapidly being overrun by illiterate ex-slaves and Spanish-speaking illegal immigrants. Shocked

And the Muslims are taking your island in exchange for Palestine. Al Salaamu Alaikum. Don't believe the multiculturalist, we really are conquering the kaffir from within. Allah is the best of planners.

I agree.

It always annoys me slightly when there is an "english-united states" option in language selection but no "english-UK" or "English-British" option when installing stuff etc. :).

You should be thankful to the Americans for saving your butt TWICE last century. You could have easily been speaking German.

And that little "War" in the Falkland Islands back in 82'... yeah, you might want to thank America for that one too. You Brits took the credit for the win, however, you also took America's Fuel, Food, Ammo, replacement parts, replacement Harriers, Intelligence and Spy Satellite photos to support that war.

So to change a few words is minor in comparison to the 300,000 Americans that have died for your country.

Pip Pip... Cherrio!

Well, perhaps we would be a little more grateful if you hadn't been several years late in both word wars..... :).

Cheerio! :)

BTW:- anyone played minecraft with the pirate language localisation options?

"Yarr!"

Can I have Eve client Pirate language options please? Or "British (stereotypical)"

You have a problem understanding American?

It just a set of instructions, it's not saying we don't care about the English.

The USA should have its own localization for these things. The majority of the world doesn't spell it this way.

Too bad American's outnumber the rest of the native English speaking word. Sorry and all.

you said "all non-english native people who use english to meet with each other?"

personally i couldn't care less about my english when i speak with people who can't speak russian (my native) at all Lol

It's because we're a little mental with our spellings and the americans like to simplify things.

Through is obviously better as Thru
Think of the man hours saved by dropping those letters.
Same goes for armour and amor.

I'm just wondering what'll happen when they give the word eight a real good look, so many silent letters etc.... it's madness!!!

Maybe because US English is easier to understand for a non English native, many options are possible.

Thing is that when I listen to someone speaking an academic English (very few) it's clear as water and very pleasant to listen. When you start listening a guy speaking with an accent coming from the outer world that for us, non English natives, is painful to listen and almost impossible to understand, it's the case of the majority of English/Scottish/Irish.
Then add those speaking not really English but a mix that-no-one-understands-but-themselves and actually people like me just click "stop listening strange-accent-nerd?" -YES

Same for Americans, the average American actually if he can barely read a newspaper can actually speak properly enough, well Texas dudes make an effort .

English is one of the few languages I know of which reverses anatomical function and meaning.

We have :

A nose that runs.

Feet that smell.

I mean, get real ?

...

Any language which is as widely used as generic English is, is bound to have local and international twists and quirks added to it, flavour (see?) from the Country it is from.

This is a game, I'm not about to start nitpicking names and naming conventions, that's just muy loco.
