Yes the sleepers are the aliens.

I guess what i'm saying is , I'd prefer to have some of that alien lore in the game.
The sleepers seem pretty dangerous. In all the plethora of life in the universe I would like to vouch for Sasquatch or anyone who would want to play a Sasquatch character. I think Sasquatch should join the minmatar faction. The Reptilians should be with the Gallente. The Greys should be with Amarr. Caldari should have the Avian people.

Sleepers are post-humans though and were a branch of the Jovian family. They moved out of New Eden seeking their little spot of utopia, set up a massive VR environment supported by their massive space-bound hardware locked inside all these outposts and put themselves in them. The entire race exists physically in stasis pods while their minds are inside the VR simulated environment. They leave their Sleeper Drones around to protect them while they 'dream' of the technological singularity utopia.

Then crap hits the fan, the Sleepers discovered they were being genocided, lots of awful stuff started following up with that blow, quite a bunch woke up from stasis and reassembled bodies from clone stocks (presumably because they already lost their original bodies or never had one, which would make them aberrations since every individual in the VR construct is supposed to have a physical body each), dust off their war machines and started warring with New Eden. Especially the Amarr Empire and the capsuleer community who were the primary offenders in the genocide of the Sleepers.

So no, not aliens. Just foreign highly advance human civilisation.

They were asking for X-File shite rather than those guys who merely came through the border with a passport and a visa (or illegally). You know, flying saucer anal prober shite.

Besides, if we are talking about aliens as in foreigners, technically that's every human being in New Eden. Humans aren't native in the cluster, they were immigrants from beyond the Eve Gate who arrived many thousands of years ago and were trapped there after the cataclysmic collapse of the Eve Gate, reducing their civilisation to something barely above the Stone Age and having to start over again.

The only races who managed to avoid that fate were the Jovians and their Sleeper and Enheduanni brothers and the Talocan. The Enheduanni used to be the military guards of the Sleepers during their exodus out of known space before they went off the grid, presumably to play Illuminati (there were many suggestions that the Enheduanni were responsible for a number of major events throughout the history of New Eden). The Jovians, were, as you know, dying out from a genetic disease that gave them severe depression and ennui. By all means and purpose, their current Empire (the THIRD Jovian Empire) has already collapsed and were succeeded by the Society of Conscious Thought.

The Talocan disappeared, leaving behind traces of their civilisation. Nobody really knows what happened to them.

Nah humans diverging evolutionarily is more original and more interesting than adding an alien species that look and function identically to humans except they have butt implants on their foreheads.

I think you're talking about this chronicle https://community.eveonline.com/backstory/chronicles/kyonoke-pit/

As for 'aliens' the best you will get are the rogue drones, no-ones knows why they do what they do, or where they get their advanced technology ideas from.

As for the Jove, think how we would look to medieval people with our synthetic fibres, plastics and computer tech (jove = us, medieval = rest of new eden).

Sleepers, like people have said before are the defense systems put up by the second jove empire survivors dreaming in their VR paradise.

The Drifters, or at least those ones harvesting people to make bodies for themselves, are probably some sort of AI that got create in or by that VR 'paradise' after all in at least one of the chronicles the SoCT saw enough weird signals from Jamyl to believe a Jove AI, probably a rogue one at that, was in her head.
They definitely believe it was at least influencing or even controlling what she did. ( this chronicle to be accurate = https://community.eveonline.com/backstory/chronicles/inheritance/ )

side note - in the chronicle series 'End of the World' we find out what sparked off the Isogen 5 across the galaxy which also altered space so we could find and start raiding WH space.

We also find out where Jamyl got her super-weapon equipped Abbadon - A ROGUE DRONE HIVE.

Not only had this hive built a capsuleer ship they were maintaining it and harvesting a nearby star of it's Isogen 5, personally I reckon all the rogue drones got turned by the Jove AI that ended up in Jamyl's head.

Otherwise how could the drones develop cruiser sized ships which can generate their own jump portals (SOE arc) or build a Hive that can jump / warp about as well (seen at the end of the SOE arc).
Being off-shoots of Jove tech would also explain how Dagan (a member of the SoCT) manages to control several rogue drones as well, especially since they have since become the Jove successor and inheritor.

Also the aggressiveness of the drifters towards the Amarr empire, and not the others, could be because the 'loyal' Sleeper AI's consider them to be tainted by the 'rogue' one that ended up in Jamyl's head.

TLDR = the aliens are all Jove or Jove related in some way.

Rogue drones might not necessarily be influenced by Joves. First and foremost, rogue drones are Strong AI, capable of writing and rewriting their own codes and modify their own programs, as well as having self-awareness. This self-awareness and this ability to learn is what allows them to grow, evolve and exceed expectations in wildly unpredictable ways. They did not create the Isogen-5 Superweapon, they salvaged it from a Terran ship. They did not need outside influence to develop cruiser-sized ships, they simply need to either observe cruisers and figure out how they were made or attack the cruisers, disable them, study them and then reverse-engineer them to produce more cruiser-sized rogue drones. They can repeat this process on just about anything technological thrown their way. Titans with doomsday devices and jump drives? If the rogue drones want all of those they will attack a titan with the intention of disabling one for reverse engineering, and then eventually they will figure out how to build titan drones with their own doomsday and jump drives. Be glad they haven't managed to do this yet. Or did they?

And remember, the harvesting of Sleeper pods for Dust 514 merc implants is spearheaded and almost all performed by the Amarr Empire (if you had read Templar One), which is the most probable reason why the Drifters wardecced the Amarr Empire. They also blew up capsuleer ships and pod the capsuleer partly because they need to harvest the bodies to add more gene stock for the production of more bodies for their own use and partly because capsuleers plundered and destroyed Sleeper installations. This was a retaliatory attack. They probably also identified the Other living inside Jamyl (the same Other who manipulated events that lead to the genocide of the Sleepers) and decided to kill Jamyl and take out the Other along with her.
