Most of my characters have bounties, even the ones that rarely if ever undock.

The worst part about a bounty is that it messes-up the portrait with a big red "wanted" banner.

Yup, that's the worst part, i.e. don't worry about bounties.

I have a bounty on me? Why? I didn't do anything to anybody. I was invited to join this corp but there is not many people online and It wont let me leave (I am in some 24 hour waiting period?) when I found out they were at war and I got moved into some alliance chat thing.

Have I gotten myself into trouble? I log on every day but nobody told me someone wants me blown up :( All I do is mine in the safe areas. I'm not hurting anybody. I made 5 million now with what I have mined. Am I allowed to pay off the bounty on me myself or something?

Couple of things:

A. Bounties are useless in EVE. Ignore them. Hell, my alts have bounties that I placed on them, just so they have the nice wanted sign.

Basically, all they do is give anybody who does kill you a small tip depending on what you lost. It doesn't make you a target or bad person.

B. NEVER, EVER join a corp that invites you. Join a corp that YOU want to join.

It's a PVP game, we blow each other up. You have to give up this idea that you're going to be able to avoid PVP if you just are nice and don't "hurt" anyone. Because you won't be able to avoid it; it's everywhere in this game.

Quoting for maximum effect.

EVE is a PvP game.

If you want absolutely no PvP, then EVE isn't the game for you.

Anybody can shoot anything they want, when ever and where ever they want. Some places it involves consequences other places it's does not.

So, PvP WILL happen, wether you are are a nice guy/gal minding your own damn business or a rudeless pirate. Simpley stating that you are a nice person doesn't change the fact that if someone wants to shoot at you, they will still do.

Just cause I can is enough reason in EVE to shoot someone.

I think you can have a second account, take down your other account while in a rookie ship (so you don't lose a nice ship) and that will eliminate the bounty, or so I've heard but I have no idea how true that is. You can collect on your own bounty and teach the bounty makers a lesson in the process. It can be done with a trusted fellow player, but as others point out, finding some you REALLY can trust in EVE isn't all that easy...

That is ancient info, utterly useless now

Bounty pay-out is 20% of loss value

So to clear a bounty with an alt (or friend) you have to lose 5 times the value in bounties in ships. Not very economical.

Given your attitude you probably wouldn't, this is my main and I post in a very similar vein; I've gotten hate mail for telling carebears how not to die, from carebears and the odd white knight Roll, haven't gotten any from PvP folks though.

Proud main poster here too.

And y'all know HOW I post.

Hell, only times I used an alt to post is when ISD or CCP muzzle gagged my main once againTwistedTwisted

Messes up...I LOVE my wanted sign, makes me look dangerous.

I usually hang around a newby system in EVE and you should see all the new players look in terror when they see the wanted sign, while I'm just sitting there in a safe spot outside the station watching them and answering questions.

I haven't seen below my chin since bounties were changed in the Retribution expansion.

<-- Also Main.

I know right? That wanted sign makes newbies think you're a BAD person! I've been wanted a few times, but I tend to get blown up pretty often, so I don't keep bounties for long. I try not to talk too much PVP advice, since most of my pvp style is paranoia, running away, and pre-planning.

I still plan on going all out pvp, but I have this little project of attempting to create a more thriving market in Stain. It's keeping me pretty occupied, and getting me blown up too. I'm neutral to EVERYONE. Makes things interesting.

My choice of pronouns is based on your avatar. Even if I know what is behind the avatar.

I've had players on the forum demand that I post the name of my main before. Not here, but typically when I comment on Dev posts about upcoming game changes. I can only assume that if they are asking for the name of my main that they intend to do something with that name.

I'll admit I could be very wrong on this. However having a forum alt is a fairly simple thing and if I am correct I basically have to stop playing this game if I don't.

However in real life I tend to try and keep a low profile and fly under the radar in most if not all situations so my perspective is probably a little tilted in that direction.

I will admit that my way is just that, my way, not necessarily the right way. All that I can do is share how I play and why and how it works out for me. It's up to others to decide if it may or may not work given their tastes.

No but you could hold onto a buoy to save your life.

Is API safe?

yes, did you check if the group has an active or pending war?

API lets others see (not change in any way) some of your account and character details.

It is a way to interface outside programs with the game (such as eveboard.com), and you can use it yourself: go to the API management webpage on CCP's official website, log in, and create API's for yourself and for others. You can then plug the private API's into programs like EVEMON and EFT, and they'll pull down your trained skills so that when you plan your skills (in EVEMON) or try out ship fittings (EFT), your trained skills are taken into account.

Some corporations use the API for interfacing with their forums and voice communications: as long as you're in the corp, the forum will know through the API to give you access.

Most corporations use the API to figure out your alts and whether you're a spy. Again, it's a trust issue because theft and espionage are allowed in this game. So they'll look at whether you or your alts belonged to enemy corps in the past, whether you transferred ISK from enemies, etc.

It's like a background check; safe because they can't change anything about your character or account, but also revealing. It's the acceptable norm; I'm not surprised that you got asked for the API key.

Unless you've been putting your username password in an ingame mail somewhere then it's not safe. Otherwise it's safe. Most "serious" corps will ask for full API as they are concerned about security of the corp and the well-being of their membership.

Also I'm sad that all bounties that gets placed on me always disappears after a while when I log on.Sad Not even that 20 mil bounty a miner placed on me lasted.X

Post with your NPC alt main and not your main main alt!

Not a good idea regardless. Don't forget your recipient can give out their API as well!
