Ahm.... Well. We still see issues that could be related to downloads on the Mac. We are investigating this. The workaround would be to let the launcher download the full set of resources before entering the client.

The day after that fix goes out there will be a bottle of top shelf, small batch whiskey en route to CCP with the responsible team's name on it.

I'm just sayin'.

On the Mac I use the clonemaker to make clients defined by links. Its an easy way to have three clients running, all with different settings.
Will the clonemaker still work? Is it even still a valid way to run the client?

The work around is fine for Sisi, but I’m assuming this would never go out to TQ for the Macs if the bug is still there? The workaround is fine and all, it’s just that isn’t this feature geared to new players rushing to get in the game, and isn’t that the exact people who won’t know yet not to download anything while running the mac client (or breath wrong at it)? Yea, it's worrisome how many new things are not available to the Mac players but I'd think it'd be more important to give a new player a stable game.

At least I'm glad you guys have a repeatable in house way to produce that bug. I also would like to echo Dersen Lowery’s sentiments. We’ll get you guys drunk man!

My comment in 7 letters :

A.W.E.S.O.M.E

Even more so the part where you explain that TQ and Sisi will share the same ressource cache. Except during this stage of testing obviously.

how will we be able to change the location of the cache folder?

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

The dev blog states "Multiple clients, yes!"
Does this include multiple clients running at the same time?
A typical approach to that is having a symlink from e.g. "eveonline2" to "eveonline" so you only require one TQ installation but can have seperate game settings/preferences (e.g. window size).

Also, does DoD require to keep the Launcher open while playing? Right now, after patching using the launcher I can start the with the exefile.exe the next time. Will this still be possible?
(I do this, because despite using symlinks the launcher remembers the last username, no matter which account/path I used - and while I could use both accounts from the same launcher, it would always use the same preferences)

So atm if I download the DoD Client that was used on Duality and link it to Sisi it tries to download the full 7 GB Patch. So are the Changes not online yet or am I doing something wrong?

This is scheduled to go out on Sisi tomorrow.

Yes, of course you can still run multiple clients at the same time.

Launcher is not required to be open while playing.

You will still be able to run exefile directly after patching, same as before.

Of course, as you say, you are still working in the details on how to DoD will work live. However, I expect of good and well detail information about how I will do the download on fist machine and copy patch to second machine.

I live in a heaven place city, but it cost me high latency and very slow internet connection. I cannot patch the two machines in the same day. I usually patch one, which take me almost the whole day, and copy the patch to another.

Again, I expect the patch transfer still works, and that you (the technical people) tell us how I should do it, in an easy picture tutorial.

Thank you.

So just curious, if you running like 3 accounts at same time, and they all start to download differnet stuff on demand as needed. That could bog your connection down and make a bad experience.

Please try this scenario once this is up on Sisi and tell us how it went! We need feedback from actual experiences!

How it was the last time as they tested it on Duality:
Note: I have 32Mbit downstream

  • Jumping from system to system is no problem, since basically no new assets are loaded (your client cares only for stuff on your grid). No delay here.
  • Ships that appear on grid - that you don't have the texture for already - will load with a low texture/low poly model and update as soon as your client has downloaded the new data. So no delay here, too.
  • NOTE: Overview doesn't care about this, so ships will be in overview as fast as they are now.
  • Loading station environment (not CQ) for the first time gives a black screen until it is downloaded. Was ~3s for me.
  • Loading preview will give you a short period of empty preview window with stars in the background. After a second or two the background nebula loads and then does the ship. For everything you don't have downloaded yet.

A few wild guesses from my side:

  • CCP will not implement a loading wheel to show that the client is doing something, because quote: "That should not happen, and is not what we've seen in our testing."
  • The launcher will fill up your C: drive and you will have to manualy change the chache folder and clean the mess up yourself. Because: Who uses partitions these days *yolo* *swag* get a 5TB SSD from your momma!
  • After checking the "Download all the resource files." (with a DOT at the end Big smile) box and hitting "Save" the client will still show that it's ready and everything is fine. No notification that this will be active only after the launcher was restarted.

I just looked at the current Duality client and it seems it was updated. The launcher was updated too. Here you can see how it may look tomorrow.

Thanks for the hard work CCP Maxwell, CCP Snorlax and the whole RnD team. Don't take me too seriously, I'm just ******* around.

EDIT: Please lock the other Dev blog: Download on Demand client for EVE Online thread. It is really confusing Big smileBig smile

As there now is a completely new thread on the same topic, this one gets a lock.

Please continue the discussion in that thread to keep the feedback centralised.

Yes because Devs staring new threads on the same topic is so much more convenient and user friendly than just updating an existing thread.

How much better it would be for all concerned if you could go to "A" thread on a given topic and find what your looking for.

My opinions are mine.

  If you don't like them or disagree with me that's OK.- - - - - - Just don't bother Hating - I don't care

It really is getting harder and harder to justify $23 a month for each sub.
