This is definitely legitimate. I wonder if CCP was surprised by the rate of sale,

This is true. We did not expect it would sell out in 7 hours, to be honest. It caught everyone happily by surprise, save for those who missed the announcement.

Come on! I was asleep when this was announced, and when I wake up it has sold out. Please, PLEASE go back to the factory and make some more. I don't know if I speak for anyone besides myself, but it's collector's edition or bust for me. Go big or go home. Balls to the wall. Put up or shut up. If you're not first, you're last. They may take our lives, but they'll never take our freedom. ... etc etc.

I got a Feature Added!

Dear CCP,

Originally this post was an angry, nonconstructive rage. I will try to express myself better in the hopes that CCP and the Devs see the huge error they made with this release and don't upset a large group of their subscribers in the future as they have just now.

First, I should say that I bought the EVE : Second Decade CE as soon as it was released and had no hesitation to do so. I am a long-time EVE fan and jump on these kinds of opportunities the few times they come. I would've happily done the same and bought the EVE : Source LE, had there been a fighting chance. I would've loved to get the signed copy but also would've settled with the just the standard LE book and it's cool LE add-ons such as the pretty case, etc. The only reason for getting these kinds of LE/CE things is for those little things. This is 2014, and nobody really wants a big hard-cover book taking up space unless it has some sentimental value. Books simply aren't worth the paper they're printed on, and need these bonuses for purchasing them to make any sense.

Moving forward, let's look back on the way other things were done recently, starting with the EVE : Second Decade CE.

I am aware that sales were less than hoped for EVE : Second Decade CE in the beginning, which is why all the extra things were added on during the pre-sale to draw more people in. Clearly, EVE : Source LE did not have this issue. However, the pre-sale of the CE was not limited in the same way. For as long as the pre-sale went on, you could get all of the extras offered.

Now, let's look at the previously mentioned EVE memorial. There was a big countdown on the community page, leading people to speculate "What is this about?" and inevitably led to many to stay up late/cancel plans till the timer hit zero, myself included. Of course we all were trolled when we saw it was just an announcement of a memorial being built in Iceland that 99% of EVE players will never see. While some people may think it's a cool idea, it surely did not require a vague countdown because there was no input required, or even allowed, from the player-base. It's not like we got to suggest how it looks or what's inscribed on it; it's not like the first 1,500 people to respond after the announcement would get anything special; it was just a countdown to tell us that CCP was going to spend some of our money in X way.

With these two examples in mind, let's now look at this most recent announcement of the EVE : Source LE.

First, there were no mails sent out to current subscribers informing them of the release. There was no announcement in the EVE launcher, which arguably is the best place to make such an announcement. People say there were announcements on twitter, but I don't use twitter and I shouldn't be required to in order to get news about EVE, and news certainly shouldn't be exclusive to a third-party site/application. There are so many options for CCP to make announcements through their own websites and programs that a third-party site is not at all necessary, nor logical. I don't even own a smartphone because, financially, it's not possible and therefore twitter is impractical even if I wanted to use it. Am I perhaps a minority? Sure, but that doesn't change how it's absurd the only place you announce it is on twitter...

However, I did get an email from you today, CCP, suggesting I re-sub my old accounts so their names can appear on a memorial, something that I care nothing about....I understand it's just a ploy so you can get that much more money, but the way these things are done is insulting. I would happily pay for, and give you my hard-earned and valued money for EVE : Source LE but I was not given a fair chance.

Instead, I was browsing the EVE Fiction forums, not even 24 hours after it hit the EVE store, when I saw a post that made it sound like the person already possessed a copy of EVE : Source. I thought, "This is odd...I've heard nothing about it being released yet..." but decided I'd check dev-blogs on the hunch I might've been missing something. Lo-and-behold, there it is staring me in the face. I ran to the EVE-store and.....sold out.

So, while you, CCP, have shown that you're capable to give us countdowns and announcements to prepare us in the past, you failed to do so here, except on a third-party site. Then you made the limited edition so limited that only 1,500/500,000 subscribers would have a chance to get it. Limited editions are limited, I understand that, but so limited that only 0.3% of people will get it? That is absurd.

With all this said, I am still interested in reading EVE : Source.

Missed out.

Where is the website for the Australian distributor?

Also for future reference. This is the kind of announcement that deserves a countdown.

The EVE store has sold out.

I have just ordered my copy of the limited edition from somewhere else.

I'm not going to say where, as I don't want the hordes of US players to know. But Australian players have a local option, a little detective work and local knowledge should be enough for you to figure it out.

Trying to do this as well. Sadly, I fear I lack the "local knowledge" you speak of.

Found one Australian store that has it but it's not clear if it's limited edition or not. Judging by the price, it's not.

This is getting really frustrating.

After contacting IKON, searching through all their clients, and finding nothing but the non-LE version, I have run out of options.

******* pissed.

Could someone at CCP pull out the whip and make those designers sign the other limited editions as well? It's a small step from signing 600 litho's to 2800. Just some extra overtime would do it. I guess they would gladly sacrifice their wrists for extra customer satisfaction Twisted?

I have to echo t0rfi's sentiments here, the entire team who was involved in the production of this book are simply astounded by how fast this sold out.

CCP Gnauton was literally jumping up and down and highfiving people, and myself and the rest of the writers are incredibly happy.

Big smile

Dear CCP / t0rfifrans / Falcon

My first impulsive move was to write a much flamed, angry, rage-quit words for you.
However, I set down, and then went outside for some walk, and now I am back here to try to explain my frustration.
As Manic Velocity, wife came to ask why I was staring anguish to the screen. Then she said almost the same.. That I really deserve the book.
And so I run to buy it just to get even more frustrated because your Eve Store do not ship to my country.
Why? Oh dear, why?
Eve it is a MMO, which means that it is played for almost everyone in the globe.
Why the good stuffs have to be sold only to a selected ones. And do not tell me that the majorities of players are in Europe / EUA and they could buy the book. Why they were privileged and I was excluded? I am an eve player like then!
Please, which all my 9+ years uninterrupted of eve heart, I urge you to think about it.
I know I and not making a crazy demand. I just want to be treated equally. I just want to have eve stuffs like everyone else.
Again, please, think about it.
Sincerely,

Castelo

Reading the devblog, I get nostalgia thinking about the E-ON magazine days.

Nostalgia will make bad business decisions and I won't be purchasing this book, since it's only snapshot of the new eden universe and not a continued monthly/quarterly recurring magazine.

Eve online is :

A) mining simulator B) glorified chatroom C) spreadsheets online

D) CCP Games Pay to Win at skill leveling, with instant gratification
