Update

VAERT's donations drive is now officially over, any donations coming in past this post will be put aside for the next CCP charity drive.

VAERT BOOST donations drive will keep going until one of these conditions becomes true:

- Friday December 6, 2013 past down time comes.

- The sponsors pool is depleted

- Chribba or AC155 announce an early closure of their trillion drive (be it because they reached their own trillion cap or because they decide it's time to close it for any other reason.

Later today I'll send Chribba the VAERT BOOST ISK accrued so far, in order to be sure we'll fit inside their budget.

Starting today at midnight, VAERT BOOST donation upper cap of 500M is lifted.

Any amount of donation will be accepted as long as it fits within the sponsorship pool.

Exceeding amounts will be sent verbatim to Chribba / AC155.

VAERT BOOST charity initiative has now officially ended!

After yesterday's donations cap lift Amarr Citizen 155 generously donated 10,168,858,333.33 ISK to top up the sponsorship amount.

In fact 10,168,858,333.33 ISK got matched with 120% from the fund, that is 12.202.629.999,996 ISK.

Total to send to the 1 Trillion ISK initiative is the sum of the two:

22.371.488.333,326, ISK, rounded up to
22.371.488.333,33 ISK.

Conclusions

Many, many thanks to the selfless Donors who made it possible to send that much ISK to Chribba for further multiplication!

Here are the tangible VAERT BOOST results:

VAERT BOOSTED equivalent value: 35,667,648,333.33

VAERT BOOSTED + AC155 equivalent value: 71,335,296,666.65

This means that with PLEX currently selling for about 610M, VAERT BOOST has contributed generating about 117 PLEXes, which translated in dollars means: 1,755 dollars!

That amount will be further augmented by VAERT's own balance when it'll be finalized later.

This is beginning to look an awful lot like killboard-accounting, where if 3 people make 3 kills, they claim a total of 9 kills even though only 3 people died. In fact, with AC155's contribution, it's more like 3 people make 1 kill, accidentally killing 2 of their own alts in the proces, and then claiming 9 kills total. At least it's all for a good cause.

Could you elaborate a bit on that? It seems to me the root cause of his decision was that his 2.5B wasn't boosted in the donation made on Friday morning. Why did you make a donation at that time? Why didn't you just tell Samroski "this was just the first batch of isk, I'll boost your isk in the final batch after the deadline (friday downtime." instead of posting a 300 word essay with 'if's and 'but's?

Unlike killboard accounting, every ISK claimed by VAERT BOOST has been paid and will factually become money.
AC155 is on the same page as well.

I see some competition at creating more way to donate ISK for charity as a good thing. If that involves showing some numbers to entice more people to donate, I don't find it so wrong.
In the end this is not some fractional RL banking, the ISKs do exist, it's not mere chatter.

If Samroski is OK I will forward you my evemail written on 2013-12-03 19:50 exactly detailing the process: use it to raise cap and if we would not get the objective, then make it a donation and fit it in the cap.

I hope I have not done anything to make him feel bad or offended (thus causing the withdrawal), when he asked his ISK back I have sent it back no question asked.

Please draw your own conclusions.

My point is that the original donator, you, and AC155 all might claim to have "contributed generating" the final amount, undoubtedly leading to much rejoicing, elaborate high-fiving and lots of (self-)congratulary messages - but also leading to an overestimation of how much was actually contributed. Fact is, I contributed 500M, the fund contributed 700M and AC155 contributed 1.2B. Together we "contributed generating" 2.4B, but none should seperately claim to have generated that much.

Here's a post where you asked a question (paraphrased: "Can I please keep it a bit longer, I'm talking to someone").
What I'd like to know is why you didn't wait with donating to Chribba until after the VAERT deadline, when you could have donated all the money at once, including the converted sponsorship. You're such a stickler for (mostly self-written) rules, which makes this decision so strange in my eyes.

Both AC155's initiative and mine heavily relied on a bonus to be added to each donation. It's just consequential that the converted numbers get posted afterward.

Also, I strongly claim my and VAERT (BOOST) Donors right to be happy about it. Because in the infamous cold, harsh universe where everybody IS out to get you, we demonstrate people can better than that, even with no reward, no "politically correct" customs or anything. And in doing that, we factually help somebody else.

I do understand your point... and I suppose we'll have just agree to disagree.

Nanatoa wrote:

What do you want I say, that we did have an agreement and he did infamous things to it? No, he took his decision I don't want to put my nose into as it's his personal choice if and how to donate his ISK.

I put him before 3 choices, with the math done for each of them and he rightfully chose one. Period.

Donations come a lot in the last few days. I won't want to create a fund whose only destination is to send ISK to AC155, go to bed, wake up and find out some rich American players filled it and then what do I do? I'd have ISK from people who trusted me to make it multiplied and with what face am I going to tell them: "sorry I have neglected my manager role and now the doors have closed, your donation is now detuned".

Considering there's a third party invovled, sending the donation in tranches is just prudent and due diligence.

Samroski's ISK did not get sent to AC155 at any time and I made sure there was enough funds left to convert his whole amount to donation and multiply it with my money alone.
Therefore even without calling the above paragraphs into cause, we are arguing about a non issue. Because his ISK was fully here and fully covered till the drive has ended.

VAERT has finished sending PLEXes to the CCP PLEX for GOOD character.

VAERT has sent 162 PLEXes. At $15 a plex, it means VAERT contributed to Philippines aids for $2,430!

But VAERT is not just a fund, it's a fund of funds. It's total NAV is made by the main fund but also by Sister Funds. VAERT BOOST is one of them and has donated the equivalent of $1,755 itself.

There are other Sister funds as well, namely Samroski and Chribba's. I will update their own NAVs and number of PLEXes sent later.

These were my unvoiced questions. Because I do not doubt VV's integrity, I decided to leave things be. I wanted to give VV the benefit of doubt, as I have had a long association with him, and know that he would not deliberately do anything wrong.

When VV posted that the ISK had been donated, accurate to the last decimal, it would have been nice to have got the 3 options at that time- not many hours later after I had posted to ask what had happened to my ISK. Had I been informed at that time of the American donor etc. and the plan to boost the ISK later (or the simple statement suggested above by Nanatoa), I would have left the 2.5b with VV. In the circumstances, I decided to withdraw the 2.5b on principle. I honestly felt that we were just dealing with just a few billion, and keeping, and posting an accurate record of a handful of donors, and keeping people informed of any future plans was not a very tough job.

Having said that, I also know that VV is involved in many other initiatives related to PLEX for Good, and I also want to give him leeway in this context; juggling many things at one time can be tricky.

At the end of the day, my interest is in getting the ISK to charity, and I am grateful to AC155, Chribba and VV for motivating others to donate. It does not really matter who donated more. I am positive that there were no bad intentions on VV's part, and this minor incident should not overshadow his long time efforts for charity via Eve.

I think there has been a misunderstanding. ISK was meant to be sent in multiple chunks, ideally once a day, after Chribba reassured me that his tracker would take into account amounts cumulating over time.

Vaerah Vahrokha wrote:

Because I have gathered some amount in VAERT BOOST and would like to send what I gather at the end of each day

ISK was meant to be sent because nobody (never been a similar initiative) could know whether AC155's initiative would fill in in a hour, day or week. As I said above, it'd been a terrible blow to wait till the last hour and:

- Risk some technical issue delaying my sending (I had my cable break just 2 weeks ago) and no technician would come during a week end.

- Risk getting the doors closed because AC155's fund was filled.

- The balance sheet clearly indicated good remaining room in the sponsorship ISK. I don't know how AC155 will do, but VAERT would ANYWAY send all the sponsorship ISK to AC155 so you'd not lose a nickel. In the worst situation of all, your ISK would have been forwarded to Chribba verbatim and thus your ISK would have yielded a minimum of 200% anyway.

What I can sincerely blame myself for, is not having created a long studied, perfectioned VAERT BOOST prospectus that would cover all the contingencies in advance including your concerns.
Sadly, AC155 initiative came down as a sudden bomb, I had few hours to invent a donation initiative that never existed before (second grade derivative leverage) and slam a prospectus together.

But I understand that may be seen as a mere excuse so I do take my responsibility and sincerely apologize before you and whoever long time Generosity Stake Holders. Because YOU guys matter.

I wish to express my utmost gratitude to the real VAERT (and Sister Funds) owners: the Donors. And the other kind people like Rhivre who managed a charity Raffle, AC155 and Chribba for their massive personal involvement.

Without them, this would be just an exercise of accounting, without their generosity there would be no fruit.

Only thanks to them, we are sending a tangible help to Philippines.

Only thanks to them, I may read this kind of post (this is related to Rhivre's raffle).

Yes I am not discerning between VAERT and other initiatives Donors, because there are no borders to a generous heart.

A special thanks goes to RAW23. Hadn't been for him "strong-arming" me back into re-opening VAERT, today Philippinos would get some thousand dollars less than what his gesture made possible.

Thanks for the clarification Samroski. It seems a bit better communication could've prevented the misunderstanding (note for VV: more words does not mean better communication).

I'm not sure if 'moaning' is entirely fair. I am being critical yes. Meanwhile, don't forget I traded VV PLEX in 0.0 for PLEX in Jita, I sold VV cheap PLEX, I donated to VAHFT, and I made my own donation to AC155's doubling effort.* I helped where I can. I don't include fawning over anyone to be helpful.
