The camera is the only thing we truly control in Eve unconstrained by physics, or at least it was. Something forcing your point of view to change involuntarily is disorienting and it's horrible game design, especially when we don't have a choice. C'mon CCP... Years and years of experience with this player base and you didn't see this coming?

this is it

I don't see why this would be too hard to code...

It's just a triggered event ... using a 'user preference' switch execute Odyssey jump or flat traditional...

There's no user input in any of these sequences anyway... as long as the jump time is the same for both of these choices every thing should be fine.

How do you know ?

I am not interested in speculation about how the code is implemented or in an discussion about development. I am just genuinely curious about where you have your insight in the implementation from ?

^ ^ ... Heard heard! Same question from me?

EDIT: Just one more input. I've been playing since the 80s, I have many games and this is the first time ever I am obliged to look away from the monitor when I play a game. Oops

I don't mind so much the new jump animation; but would like a way to turn the sound off when jumping. The new sound effect is louder then the previoius jumping sound with no way to turn it down; except for turning down the volume on all the sounds.

Respect. Cool

This should have been optional just like the in space camera view that can be turned off by pressing "C". These kinds of view switching things should "ALWAYS" have an off button.

I have to say I am a tad bit annoyed that CCP keeps on adding marginal stuff like this with no way to turn it off.

I saw the video of the fanfest reveal of this change and recognized as a trader often jumping 50 plus times during a round trip this is not a "great" feature for us. At the same time the way the dev was gushing all over the mic about how cool looking it was and the audience response made it clear nobody from my side/perspective was in the room when this was decided as a non optional feature.

Oh well live and let live I guess.Ugh

How do you know ? Nothing in your profile indicate that you have more insight in this than anyone else outside of CCP. The only comment I have seen from CCP on the topic is that "there is no old system anymore" (which makes me wonder what happened to version control?)

I am not interested in speculation about how the code is implemented or in an discussion about development. I am just genuinely curious about where you have your insight in the implementation from ?

I work in IT as well, but more to the point I used to spend a lot of my time working on fairly involved mods for various games. In the SciFi genre if you've ever played a Homeworld mod I probably had my finger prints on it somewhere.

Good post by the way.

I'm not sure that pointing out what is quite probably the most idiotic thing the EvE community allowed itself to get worked up about is doing much for your cause. Smile

You saw "idiotic". CCP saw "oh ****". We see how that worked out, eh?

So because of you working in IT and have modded then you know this is very hard to change .... thanks, needless mess more here. You have answered the question .... you know absolutely nothing about this problem in EVE is difficult to change.

I really feel offended by the guys stating the people, who say the transition makes them feel bad, are lying.
Or that they "should stop play and go to the doctor".

I want CCP to deal with this kind of embarrassing, ignorant comments, since they also care about "religious feelings" here in the board, so that this topic can be discussed withouth 12-year-olds disturbing it.

Thank you in advance.

The difference is that the unpleasant effects on players are more pronounced this time. So you might have to wait a while for discussion to die down.

Myself, I don't plan to unsubscribe over this. But I will only log on to update my skill queue until I can gate-jump comfortably again. As you say: time to ride it out.

Edit.

One other thing: They are pretty lucky that they made this sort of mistake with EVE and not with Dust. Here at least they have a relatively loyal subscriber base. If they make a massive human-factors error on a relatively new game it won't go well. I guess that's harder to do since FPS's have been done to death. But if they try to innovate they should be careful.

The camera move should definately be optional, all other fancy camera gimmicks (like camera shake) have a toggle, this should not be any different.

This, whenever I am just looking at stuff on my OV the camera tracks it! It can get annoying and I'm sure with time I'll get used to it! The jump animations are pretty and all, but the camera movements can be a little excessive!

Press C. It disables the camera tracking.

An intelligent coder would have made sure there was an option. It's called planning.....
And you're right, it's much harder to go back and change it once you've coded it, if you didn't plan ahead....Oops

I must say that ccp did a great job with the animations but they for got one thing not everyone would want it.

the next mistake ccp did was replying to this post with the old code is gone. kinda reminds me of ccp before CQ with the you don't like it that's tough ****.

ccp where is your pr department for these kinds of posts?
