EvE is supposed to suck.  Wait . . . what was the question?

Question: Do you have a timeline for a revert or fix?

Thankfully I read themittani before I booted up EvE tonight...I would like to know when it is 'safe' to login again.

(safe in this case meaning I won't have to **** around to get it working)

Alright now it seems the it is now down, but now that new screen shows up I get ' Launcher. exe' is not working and it shuts it back down. Can the Launcher be uninstalled and reinstalled?

2. Pay attention to Method 1 - Junctions
3. Do it
4. ?????
5. Profit

Seriously though, that's how I have multiple clients set up, and each client has it's own settings, including launching each client on the monitor it was configured for. If you configure your launchers to exit after launching the eve client, then all you have to do is launch each launcher after the last one is closed.

By doing this, you only patch one client (don't ever run 2 launchers at the same time, the files get out of synch and then you end up having to patch 2 clients).

Your launchers will only have to verify one client, and everything should work peachy.
Plus you don't have to take up the space of having multiple client installs.

I have junctions set up, though now it only works with my main client and first junction. Attempting to log in with the second junction keeps reverting to the currently logged in account whenever I try to type something else, which was not the case before the launcher change.

ok bye

Just chiming in to say I've finally managed to read through the thread and am going to start answering the questions I can shortly.

You can start by telling me how you plan to restore all of my window and UI settings which you once again nuked for no obvious reason and with absolutely no benefit.

I already had one foot out the door of this game for months, starting with when you flushed drone boats down the loo. I was waiting to see if anything non-shite might happen with the Big Changes this year. But I think this is just about all the kick I needed to go ahead and /uninstall.

Fixing your settings is exceedingly easy, the instructions have been posted on several of the previous pages in this thread.

You advertise using alts with a Power of Two promotion, yet not only do you not support MultiBoxing, you're also looking to stop it with this launcher.

I've got no problems at all launching more than one account at once.

In the launcher options, set the launcher to close after starting Eve Online.

then, to start multiple accounts;

Start launcher.

Login character on account.

start launcher 2nd time.

Login character on account.

My big problem with the launcher, and its not the end of the world, is that after entering my username and password, I then have to hit a big PLAY button. Seriously, why has that changed? What possible reason is there for adding in a pointless extra button click?

It's not, but suit yourself. It's an easier way of doing this:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/205524/en-us
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa365006(v=vs.85).aspx

So you can either suffer, follow the MS KB article on how to do it or install something that makes it easy.

Regarding the traditional login scene and log off options: I mentioned this in another forum thread (here). The traditional login screen and functionality still exists, and many people have been bypassing the EVE Launcher and accessing it to restore the old functionality.

The new login functionality that we deployed today is designed to start changing the way users log into the EVE Universe; whilst it is often true that one shouldn't change something if it isn't broken, such a cliché doesn't allow for changing priorities. Our goal was that by rolling out the new login method, and supporting the single sign on service, we could lay the groundwork to start moving people away from the messy multiboxing setups that have traditionally never been supported by us as a company, and towards something that makes more sense for CCP and the services we provide.

To expand on this point, there are a number of exotic setups for multiboxing involving either multiple physical installs of the game, hybrid symlinks, junctions, soft links, hard links, partial copies and more. And in almost every single case people multi box for one reason: to be able to have individual setups for their settings, or to hasten the login flow. The deployment today, as difficult and bad as it was (for which I apologise) was to deploy the single sign on service, through which we can start to work on these issues. My hope is that in the end, you will be able to log into the EVE Launcher once, which downloads your settings from the cloud, with all of your accounts linked, via either a single EVE master account or via some other OAuth provider, and be able to select characters and switch between them at the click of a single button.

As for the log off button, many people don't really use it to log off from the game, but rather as a quick means to quit the game and restart at the login screen. The new token based authentication that the EVE Launcher uses isn't cleared by the EVE client, and so when it attempts to restart, it will actually attempt to reconnect with expired credentials which would throw an error message. It isn't perfect though, and we will be working on a fix for this tomorrow and in the coming days.

Sorry, I should have clarified.

I can get multiboxing to work with 2 accounts. I was able to do 3 before, but that no longer works. Typing anything in with the third gets reverted back to the currently logged in information typed in the box. I do have it set to close after EVE launches. Using junctions.

I don't know. If I find myself having to do work arounds to make my PC games work, I usually stop buying from that company. (Which is why I don't buy EA games)

And I'm hardcore old school where I used to make boot disks and modify the autoexec.bat and sound card drivers just to play games that required a full 640K of base memory, but that was in 1993.

Its 2013 and if PC game runs less reliable than a console game, then maybe they should hire more QA people.

The new launcher seems unable to remember the usernames I use, even if the UI give the impression that he should be able do it. The small arrow at right of the username input field don't respond to my mouse clicks, and write few letters don't give any auto-completion...

It was already bothersome to type the password all the time, but if I have to type the username now, it will become REALLY annoying to play at this game... I guess that it is probably a bug, so I hope that you can see what is wrong.

Yeah, actually DID read that.

Apparently, all that "workaround"... is completely pointless though.

Figured it out on my own WITHOUT accessing any files...

1) start launcher.
2) Log in to account and launch client for that account.
3) Windows button back to launcher.
4) Click "switch user account" link below BIG YELLOW PLAY BUTTON.
5) Log into second account and launch client for that account.
6) Repeat adnauseaum.

Of course that is ONLY with 2 accounts. No clue on more.

This sounds really nice, hopefully it gets done better than some of the other launchers out there. EQ2 has a nice version of this but it doesn't have separate settings per account. So basically I have to reposition the newly launched window manually. Take a look at the EQ2 launcher for an idea how they do it. It caches the credentials of all your accounts and lets you switch with a dropdown, looks like you have something started in that direction already with this new launcher :)

What if you own two computers in two different locations. One computer cannot handle EVE at max and the other can't and has brackets, etc turned off. But they would use the same account when you access it.

WHAT NOW? I BROKE YOUR CLOUD LOGIC.

Honestly, settings work for ingame things, cloud settings are absolute trash for machine dependent items.

Having "client" servers up definitely helped the launcher to start and validate/whatever the client, so protocol error has gone. However, at least on Windows XP staring a launcher spawns 2 processes (small one and then a larger one) and neither of those two gets unloaded if you close the launcher.

Additionally new launcher seems to have defaulted the option to send the logs and usage stats to On.

I like the new launcher - the hour it took to make the legal 100+ account miners to make a macro logging all their accounts in, they probably felt as pissed off about the game as I do the remaining 8759 hours about them.

That was worth it - thank you L'Oréal....
