15$/(30*24)=0.02ct/hour. Let's say they need 10 hours to fix this, that's a whopping 20 cent. Don't spend it all at once. Yeah, it sucks to come home from work and not being able to play - But really, it is only a game.

Then you would never get any updates to anything. You really want that?

Logged in using exefile, and will continue to do so until the launcher issues in this thread are smoothed out.

regards the launcher itself, when it works its good, just hope the next step is being able to go back to character selection when we need to switch rather than all the way back out to the launcher.

Finally made it in, here is how you have to do it:

1. Go into C:/Program Files (x86)/CCP/EVE and run the repair.exe. You may have to run it multiple times as it seems the repair tool is corrupted. Eventually it will update the repair tool and run the repair.

2. Go into C:/Program Files (x86)/CCP/EVE/bin and run the ExeFile. This will bypass the launcher, and, if you're run the repair program, will keep you from getting the incompatible protocol error.

Hope this helps.

Launcher update failed.

K, try manual update, worked but now broken.

Try bypassing Launcher, use bin/exefile - protocol incompatible.

Everything broken? REPAIR using repair.exe - nope, that's broken too.

Elevated command line with safemode argument? Nope, that's broken too.

Elevated command line with safemode argument as Administrator? Broken.

Really???

CCP, dafuq

P.S. - to everyone saying "run the repair tool a hundred times, it works" - no it doesn't. Been doing it to pass the time since it's been broken, I've got 32 log folders in my Temp directory with "Errors Occurred".

Offline mode - you are seeing this because no connection could be made...

Tried directly clicking C:\Program Files (x86)\CCP\EVE\bin\EXEFile. This opens the EVE launch screen, but there's a modal pop up window entitled 'Ready to Update' that cannot be bypassed. All it does is redownload and install the non working launcher.

Let's hope things go a little smoother for Microsoft today at their X-Box shindig.

please have a look at your code - the new Launcher and the new Repair tool seem to consist of 20% waiting cycles and 30% junk while the other 50% actually do something .. just managed to initiate the repair on the 10th or so try - and look for 5 minutes at "starting...." at previous attempts it started repairing right away (mind this is a 3.4 Ghz Quadcore , not a processor from the 80's )

Seems i also have the pleasure of downloading this borked update! Can connet to both the sites mentioned earlier so long i dont mind waiting a week or 2 for each! Gonna attempt the various work arounds suggested now but frankly CCP i should not be having to look for work arounds! Something as important as the game launcher requires extensive QA testing >before< not >during< live launch!!!

if you want to skip the launcher in general, or if you want to play now that this update borked up the launcher :)

Worked for me thanks!!!

Tried this, no joy. Says incompatible and downloads a patch, this goes on in an endless cycle.

Update: Running the repair tool solves this, can now get in ha

Hmm, where do I start with this one?

Timeouts should be configurable It looks like a lot of these issues are related to timeouts accessing some web server resources (e.g. links posted by CCP before).

Infrastructure Resiliency- Hi, welcome CCP to 2013. You should be planning for these kinds of things and any single point of failure that isn't related to actual TQ cluster resources, you should have a resiliency for - like say Amazon (pick your cloud vendor).

Back-out Procedures - I'm not sure we've looked into this enough. It's pretty standard for a change management process to have a cut time where if it isn't working in say 10min, you roll back to previous good state. There are lots of tools to help with this kinda of thing (chef/puppet/EtcKeeper) - but you've got to have this as a process.

Enough with the cowboy **** CCP, I think it's time to mature your processes!

This!

I had big problems getting repair tool to start (took me maybe 10 or more tries, more than 15min at least), make sure all Eve related processes are closed.

But this is it, working if u use the above advice.
