Multiple death can rescues mean that the temp center in State territory continues to see use. The staff there remains alert and busy.

There is a vicious circle of prejudice, oppression leading to prejudice and oppression. Somewhere along the way, one must break that cycle and risk trust. DSTON commends the newly convened Tribal counsel for their willingess to lay aside bitterness and to make every attempt to unite the tribes, including those once thought to be traitors. If there is to be an effective and united front to provide peace, freedom, and security for all the Minmatar people, it must be done in a way that mends the hurts of old.

DSTON would like to see an sincere effort to eliminate slavery in the Mandate and to make Mandate space and legal sanctuary for all slaves seeking citizenship within the Republic. Let Mandate space become a place where slaves may receive legal status as freed slaves and be allowed to pass without fear into the Republic.

Hmmm... how about no? Does no work for you?

It should be noted that according to regulations that already are. Once a Holder releases a slave they're considered citizens, and citizens can go pretty much wherever they want.

While I suppose some more stubborn holders may employ politically neutral bounty hunters to bring back escaped slaves, no licensed slaver is allowed to operate outside of Empire or Mandate space. This is in accordance with CONCORD treaties, which all four of the great nations have signed - though one in particular seems to forget that whenever they feel like it.

And considering that we're getting rather sick of all the constant raids & attacks, and that our navy is even moreso tired of putting up with their constant crap, I'd say that the Mandate is probably the worst place right now to be trying to ferry slaves out of. The border patrol is pretty jumpy & cranky to say the least, legal papers or not.

Pilot Ston, you are doing a grave disservice to the people that you are abducting. By forced reconditioning, you are denying them their Salvation. If you had any decency, you would return these slaves to their rightful owners.

Sometimes pilots reveal a great deal of inner pain just through a few words in their self-written bios that are made public information. It is often expressed in a sort of seasoned advice that they have learned from their own experiences or so it would seem. I think mostly it is a desperate striking of the air with words of bitterness and pain. Sometimes it is cloaked in humor but the desolation still leaks through the words. What probably they wish they could say is simply, "I've been hurt in life and I haven't quite worked it out." Life does tend to make it a challenge to stay completely healthy.

The Disciples of Ston hope that all who read this may be blessed with freinds that show them grace rather than judgment. I fear that so many have very little gace to see them through cruelty that life can deal.

There are remnants of the normal human experience that I choose to continue as a capsuleer even though I would not have to. Some physical "inconveniences" can be engineered out of our clones. That is why so many capsuleers are either exceptionally odd looking or unbelieveably good looking. In other words; how to be unbelievably ripped or have perfect figure? Become a capsuleer.

Shaving. I keep that. Even though I would not have to shave to keep my facial hair sculpted the way I like it, I choose to do so. Many years ago, I discovered an inexpensive aftershave that goes on with a bright citrusy scent but then fades in about ten minutes. Perfect. The shaving ritual is like a fresh start each time it is done.

Why do I mention it here? From time to time I note that the adult men we rescue take special pleasure in good shave after a long space journey and abandonment in a death can. Odd though it may seem, it is a point of connection between me and some of those we rescue.

If we could all find even a small shard of shared humaniuty glimmering in the smoke and haze of our conflicts, maybe it could reflect enough light to shine the way to peace. Let it be so.

Actually... his group is mostly a humanitarian rescue operation, picking up abandoned cargo pods with people still trapped inside. The passengers aren't always slaves and even if they were if it's outside our borders we can't say anything about it. I've used his service to dump off various people that I've rescued from anti-pirate missions over the last year, because we aren't a humanitarian rescue operation (I just hate to see life wasted for no reason).

Besides, if they were just left to die then that would certainly deny them any chance of Salvation. So long as they remember that the person who pulled them out of the rapidly cooling life-pod was a member of the Faith then hopefully that will leave a strong enough impression on them to maybe take up the Faith themselves.

"It is not legal for me to cross this border with you on board. I am going to jettison you in a container with a limited supply of heat and air. I will make it legal for you to be rescued by relinquishing ownership of the can. Hopefully someone will rescue you before your life support expires. In case you are not rescued, you can take these (pills) and die quickly." These were the words spoken to 24 people as they were given pills to end their lives and prepared to be jettisoned into a death can. True to his word, the pilot abandoned the can. We came upon it in the DSS Mayflower while on patrol. There were also two other yellow death cans recorded below. The Blue can was rescued first followed by the other two in short succession. We made for our temp center across in State territory. No pills had to be taken.

In order for there to be peace, individuals within society need to be peaceable. Peace will characterize our cultures when we approve of peaceful behavior, attitudes and disapprove of hostility. Examine, for example, the public bio of the pilot on the Wall of Shame below. That is an example of the attitude and approach that fosters continued hostility and generates friction and retaliation. "Let's see who can stick the middle finger up higher." "Let's see who can curse the loudest." It is a sad commentary on our nature that we feel it necessary to exact vengeance for the slightest of perceived wrongs.

Is our skin so thin?

In conjunction with our standing policy to deliver unto your organization any refugees & survivors that we happen upon in our travels I have placed a contract available for your group to pick up the following group of transient population at your leisure, most of whom I assume my niece rescued while out doing "Proactive Salvage Operations" :

Ten Tourists, twenty Militants, ten Marines, twenty Janitors, and ten (*ahem*) "Exotic Dancers, Male"

By all means send someone to come and remove these people from our facilities quickly. Thank you.

Equipment problems have kept our patrol time down. The Mayflower is having issues with her powerplant ((read: power supply going kaput)). Hopefully new parts will arrive before too long. The thought of death cans vaporizing in space with occupants aboard is distressing. We did manage to make it out today and were able to rescue 15 people.

I see in the time I have been occupied elsewhere that change continues to pace itself as it were in a sprint. It is hard to keep up.

There is a heaviness in our hearts today for the men, women, children, families killed by the Homeguard in a senseless act of violence. Now is the time to no longer accept the justification, "I was just following orders." The unjust rule in fear with fear as their tool. Let the just rise and unseat fear.

When does loyalty become something else? When does it become willful blindness? When does it become an unwillingness to risk for the right? When does loyalty become a false comfort for those who know the implications of facing a change of mind? It is never easy to reverse a decision made years ago and followed for decades. When we come to the place where we say, "I can no longer be that," loss is inevitable. Capsuleers with a real sense of loyalty are perhaps most resistant to a change of mind. This is partly because many capsuleers too easily change their minds and change their loyalties. Pilots are one thing today and the opposite tomorrow. However, there are times when the primacy of more basic values requires us to change individual loyalties.

In particular, if the leaders of our Sovereigties persist in hatred, bitterness and in an unqualified opposition to peace, they are not worthy of the loyalty they take for granted.

While I agree with your general assessment of Executor Heth, and that he is sadly living up to that title in a very bad & literal way, it been the policy of the Caldari State to not interfere with the policies or governments of other nations. As tragic as their current recent events have been, there are still technically an internal problem and out of respect to the Caldari State's own beliefs I feel it is only proper to not intervene or even become involved in any way with the matter.

Unless, of course, they were to formally ask for our assistance, but such a request would be coming from Mr.Heth himself, being that he is the head of their State at the moment, which in turn would be creating a distressing moral conundrum in itself. So perhaps it is for the best that he has not done so.

Reported below is what started out as a three can rescue. In fact, we were able to situate ourselves within rescue range of all all three cans and within gate activation range. Just prior to transporting the survivors, one of the cans bliped off our screans. It was either looted or it expired. The two remaining cans' occupants were rescued. The three pilots are listed without specific reference to the particular contents due to the need to act quickly and escape.

Another kudos for my crew. An interesting thing happened on the way back from State space. We came across a yellow can and decided to investigate. Sometimes slaves smugglers will make it into the State side and then get caught and dump their passengers. This can contained 6 healthy hounds. Should we rescue them? Do I risk the crew to rescue hounds? The crew said yes without hesitation. I consented only under these circumstances: that we could be out of decloak proximity range of any ship of object. It happened that we were and were able to rescue the hounds.

Slaver hounds have become a good metaphor for positive change. Our Service Dog Training program has been able to train former slaver hounds to be cadaver dogs, rescue dogs, seeing eye dogs, seizure alert dogs, hospital comfort dogs, etc.

POINT: I see time and time again that we hide behind our cultures and use them as an excuse not to confront the darker sides of our nature. We protest, "You just don't understand my culture." What we really are saying is, "I want to justify the wrong things I do with the culture argument." Cultural values evolve over time, so the cultural argument against change is a soft argument. A culture can become better.

Thank you, Mr. Ishikawa. We will keep you as a contact in case the need should arise. With ongoing tensions across the cluster, it is good to have those who are interested in the well-being of the less fortunate among us.

We are back to limited rescue runs. Equipment issues continue to be a problem. The power unit of our primary vessel is prone to fits and starts. It is actually rather new and should still be covered by the manufacturer for the defect causing the problem. The process of benefiting from that coverage is a bit of a pain, though. No one ever seems to be "home" when we try to contact the manufacturer. Hmm? Its almost like they really don't mean it when they say, "one year warranty."

Mr. Ishikawa's note reminds me to report that our planetary production rate is stable and both food and water are at surplus. Our next production priority will be in the area of medical supplies for our ongoing Matriculation Medical Center needs.

Cool headed, patient, competant... I am grateful for a crew tht not only does their job, but thinks on their feet and responds well to unexpected situations. It is very rare that we encounter rescues that require a greater passenger capacity than the Mayflower has. Today was one of those rare exceptions. We encountered a three death can situation near the gate. At first it appeared as simple as getting in range of all three all within gate activation range. This we could do in this situation. It became complicated when we scanned the first deathcan and discovered that there were over 900 people on board. Our passenger capacity is 875. We quickly transported 875 and the EMT crew went to work evaluating the physical condition of those aboard. We determined that the can was early within its 2-hour expiration so waiting out the Agro would be OK. On the second trip we were able to rescue the remaining people from all three cans.

No problems with our powerplant were encountered on this run. This was fortionate given the need for mechanical funtion on such a rescue. We have heard from the manufacturer and they have "authorized us" to return the faulty part. Of course they reserve the right to determine whether or not to replace it. It is a test of patience, no doubt. In the mean time we hold the Mayflower together with "baling wire and duct tape." Blink
