It already is happening as the minimum 2 million mark was reached a couple of weeks ago, so now that they've crossed the 4.2 million mark, it's simply adding more ships, more systems, more missions in the single player campaign and releasing the modding tools to create your own content and triple display support out of the box

If they reach the 4.5 million mark in the next 2 days, we'll have the first of the cruiser class ships being launched with the game, and 60 systems to explore in total and all kickstarter goals unlocked( there's 3 locked ones wich i have no clue what they are).

It's quite possible and even going above it, since they haad reached the 4.5 million mark at 2 AM sunday and when i checked 10 hours later, it's now at almost 4.7 million, so they're almost averaging 20 000$ every hour, and still 24 hours till it end.

So if the same pace maintains itself, they'll make another 400 000$+, wich puts them at 5+ million.

Now they've revealed that the bengal class carrier seen in the video will be a player flyable ship if they reach 5.5 million in pledges, wich i doubt it'll happen since it means making 800 000$ in 24 hours to see it happen.

The game will be already pretty impressive at 5 million with all the extra content added, since they only wanted 2 million in pledges initially....We'll now have destroyers and cruisers to fly(12 ships in total and they only have descriptions for 5 of them.), 70 systems to explore, 50 missions in single player and close quarter combat inside the ship.

Add boarding capability and even using magnetic boots to walk outside the hull of the ship.......So the pressure is on them to deliver on all this content as it is and they want to aim even higher?

I believe Chris Roberts has always had a personal motto of "Do it big or go home." Not to mention it's going to be an MMO as well so there will be expansions and additional content to come on top of constantly adding new systems to explore. Most of the money seems like it's going to employees which is not a bad thing. The more the employees are paid, the happier they are and thus better quality work. If they want to push for higher, then let 'em. If it's a flop, then it's a bad thing for him wasting his fans money. But, if he delivers, then it's going to be one epic game the fans will enjoy for decades to come.

Their main site is down, but it looks like they've passed the 5 million mark already and there's 20 hours to go till the end of the funding, so the 5.5 million mark and having that bengal class carrier as a player owned ship isn't out of the question anymore.

I never thought it would go this far and it marks a record for publically funded games with no publishers getting involved at all, though it seems they do have private backer support wich remains confidential, and was dependent on how much money they could collect publically.

Either way i'm in for the alpha and beta, so we'll see how this turns out but i'll need a joystick and throttle combo, and it seems the only brand left is saitek....Straight

the number of backers increased dramatically in the last 24 hrs as if lots of people (about 20k) were just waiting for the final rush. Before the site went down the pace was about 100k $ per hr (in the last 2 hrs before the server collapsed). When I woke up this morning we were at 4.3 which was already outstanding, now we're crossing the 5 mil mark!!

I'm truly proud of being part of this project and I'm sure things could go just better and better from now till the day-1 in 12 months (for the alpha).

I'd only like to understand if it will be possible to purchase more ships before the alpha is out, assumed you already pledged during the crowdfunding cause I've read in the forum that it will be possible to upgrade your pledge even after the crowdfund ends but also CR stated very clearly that you won't be able to buy any "additional ship" once the campaign is over so vOv

in any case, so much win!

f**k EA!!

They can't keep up with the content delivery as the goals keep getting hit wich is why the site is pretty much offline for most off the day, but with 18 hours left they'll easily beat the 5 million mark, so we'll get the game as CR intended it to be right from the start, and not just a simpler and smaller initial game that it would have been if only 2 million$ was collected.

Now the onlyy thing we have to worry about is if they'll be able to add all the content that the unlocks describe, as it's a lot more work for the development team, even if they add a lot more staff to the project, so we did our part so let's see if they can do theirs...

A few minutes to reach 5.1 milion and still 16 hours to go......As crazy as it sounds, i think the 5.5 million + mark is doable.

It's unreal....They're doing roughly 90 000$ an hour now, so forget 5.5 milion and say hello to 6+ million in the next 16 hours...

lol

not only they can't keep up with the content delivery but I think Chris has not even an idea about what to throw in the fuss for the 6 mil mark that at this point it's absolutely realistic:

$5,321,765 and 12 hrs to go

epic!

6.2 millions collected, the revenge of true PC (hardcore) gamers (yes nerds we are lol), a crowdfunding campaign that crashed any previous record and that will be very hard to outmatch for many years to come, a game that is really going to be something unseen and amazing........ I'll see you there

It is truly amazing ,what Roberts and his crew did.
If he can deliver ,what he has promised ,he will be making a game that is not an console port and it will be outside any big publisher.
And if he can deliver ,this game will be awesome.

The ship i pledged is here, even though it's not textured.

http://ca.ign.com/images/albums/constellation-images/50a56bb4f4918925b219d36a

Everything inside is supposedly functional and the thing i find hilarious is that star citizen states an emphasis on the immersion side, and they might actually get not only ships but even stations where all players can walk inside of them and do whatever they want, wich is something eve attempted with walking in stations and it's been 6 years since work started on that aspect.

My guess is star Citizen will be done before EVE is even close to get walking in stations up and running....P
