Too good to be true... A bet that there is already some crybabies with the crappy PCs on their forums...

I used to remember the days when people upgraded their system as demanding games were just about to get released, granted the last time this happened was in 2007 when crysis 1 was launched, though battlefield 3 deserves an honorable mention as being pretty demading with all settings cranked up and at high resolutions, and we have Crysis 3 to look forward too in a few months.

Basically it still does happen, but not that frequently and most of the time we're playing console ports on our PC's, wich are vastly better than an X360 or PS3 wich are using hardware from 6~7 years ago, so it's an eternity in terms of hardware.

I suppose the game will need one hell of a system to play it with the highest quality settings possible and having playable frame rates, something i have no problem with since i'm ready for it now......Big smile

I didn't buy it, i built it myself from scratch including the water cooling blocks for the video cards, motherboard and CPU's.

What you're seeing is just part of it as there's also this:

http://i765.photobucket.com/albums/xx298/Superfly101_02/P1030513.jpg

Uses up so much power that it needs a pair of 1200 watt power supplies, one of wich is dedicated primarily for the video cards:

http://i765.photobucket.com/albums/xx298/Superfly101_02/P1030457.jpg

If you're wondering, the total cost in parts and if we also include the displays, comes to over 13 000$.....It's my pride and joy to have built something like this that's so over the top in every aspect....Lol

I actually asked a friend of mine who's an electrician to add 2 extra breakers in the breaker box, and seperate the 2 wall outlets closest to the system, with one wall outlet for each 15 amp breaker so even the electrical wiring in the house had to be upgraded...lol

The system basically has some 3600 watts of power to play with when it comes to available power from the house wiring itself, without any breakers triggring.

If you all love the wing commander game so much, why is the movie "wing commander" rated 3.8 on imdb?

Hence the reason why the creator wants to do this one directly, without inference from investors, publishers or marketing and studio's interfering with the work itself then add the latest capabilities of the latest hardware into the mix and forget about console ports.

Basically the gloves come off with this game and he pushes the limits of what can be done in realtime, wich is something he couldn't do previously....

I don't see much heat coming from Star Citizen. It's a fighter game. It puts you in Luke Skywalker's seat, blasting other relatively-small things while flying around the big ones that function as scenery. Cool, but not Eve. Eve puts you in Darth Vader's position, commanding a mammoth vessel while the little flies buzz around it and explode.

In perspective, that fighter thing in the previews was, as best as I can tell, roughly the size of shuttles in eve.

(edit: ok, technically vader didn't captain the star destroyers...but he sure as hell told the captains what to do...)

More to the point, EVE will be, what? 12 years old when this game actually launches? 13? So closing on 20 expansions by then.

It's really difficult to compete with over a decade of active follow on development (even if not all the years of those decade were... equally as productive). By then it's likely that EVE will have added a full-on multiplayer FPS with Dust, maybe some integrated avatar gameplay, and even more spaceships development, polish and features. That's going to be a really tough not to crack for any new kid on the block.

This will be the space simulator.
EVE is something like space strategy.

It's like Homeworld vs Freelancer.

So the players will be able to choose which one they like the most. Maybe both :)

Loved the Wing Commander Privateer Roberts made. Actually I found EvE while searching for a similar game. So I0m really interested what he is doing and watch this closely.

added gameplay through DUST ? DUST is consoleplay it adds nothing to EvE for me personally

Intergrated Avatar Play ,i have better hopes for a new game concept ,then for WIS in EvE as it stands now

The new game does have a much more advanced game engine that looks far better than eve ever will be though.....I mean there is no ship in eve with the same amount of detail on the carrier or fighters or command deck or the fighter cockpit that was shown on star citizen, and there's also the realistic physics and the use of a joystick to fly the ships too, and not just a mouse and keyboard and seeing ships behave like submarines in space in third person view.

You have a point with features and activities that can be done in eve mainly because of all the expansions over the years that added a lot of variety to the game, but even the little that was shown from star citizen beats it in some aspects right off the gate, at least not until EVE uses a brand new graphics engine, as most of the ships are getting a little old on the tooth visually, specifically those that were avaialable right from the start.

Btw, they've reached the half way mark in pledges already after just 9 days, and there's still 22 days left to the end of the pledge drive, so i think they've not only reach 2 million $, but easily exceed that amount quite easily.

Doesn't matter they are different games, I'll try it if my rig is up to the job for spaceship vs spaceship twitch pvp, something Eve has never offered or promised, Eve is unique for a lot of reasons and that's why after almost 10 years I still play, I don't see anything so far in Star Citizen that will change that.

As I said in my earlier post, the only thing that I can see killing Eve is a monumental CCP f**k up, and as I also said earlier, they tried and failed like all the other "eve killers".

Pointless debate is pointless.

So they will have real physics, and eve doesn't and it doesn't matter?
They'll have way better graphics and that doesn't matter too?
They'll have first person view, and the ability to walk around the larger ships, and that doesn't matter right?
They'll actually have a single player campaign and that doesn't matter either?
Pilots will be able to discover new systems and name them or even sell them for profit, and that doesn't matter?
Pilots will be able to be pirates or engage in marketing activities online and that doesn't matter?
Pilots will be able to engage in 100 ship fights, wich i suspect that's the limit since with the amount of detail the game has, it would kill pretty much every PC out there, FPS wise, but that doesn't matter too right?
Players will be able to set up their own servers if they wish, something that eve doesn't even allow, period.

Frankly i see it as way more than just a twich space sim in first person view....they're trying to make it as realistic as possible in every aspect, so with eve being 10 years old and using a way older graphics engine with no realistic physics and no ability to walk in ships at all, i see at least some aspects for them to worry about.

As far as CCP screwing up, they already have in the 4 years they've teased the walking in stations aspect, and all we got in the end is a single room that adds no gameplay value at all and with ****** FPS when walking around in it, and let's see how dust turns out given that it's on a single console with no PC version or a version on the X360, wich in any case is on it's last year before being replaced by the playstation 4 anyhow....Blink
