Singularity open for initial interaction between EVE and Dust

You can only talk in squad channels in dust for other channels you need UVT (universal audio transmitter) which is an aurum item, I hope they reverse the idea of UVT's all together but I'm afraid those tokens might be here to stay.

As far as I know, none of those voice programs actually work on the PS3, so Eve Voice is the only way to chat between the two platforms. If a PS3 player also has other hardware they can use to log on to an EVE server for TS or Mumble, then fine.

I don't think CCP are worrying themselves too much over what third party options get used outside of the clients, though, they have plenty of other things they need to get in line to have the two games interacting.

Hmm, so by charging for voice comms, CCP is creating two classes of Dust players: Those that have a computer they can use for voice comms for free, and those that do not and have to pay CCP.

On the market there are items called Universal Voice Transmitters that come in 1 day, 3, 7, and 30 day versions. They have no description, but apparently a dust player needs one to use voice, and they cost Aurum. I do not know how much, or how much it will be when the game makes it to TQ.

Edit: the 30 day one costs $4.

Amusingly, the most likely outcome of that would be that DUST teams needing orbital support will have a 'comms officer' role for one of their members to set their laptop up next to their PS3, and communicate with the Eve players in question through TS or Mumble or Skype.

Even funnier, have them set up and recycle trial EVE accounts and communicate via the (free) EVE Voice facility for Eve players.

The other thing is it is selling an in-game advantage for real money, something CCP said they would not do.

The whole voice thing doesn't seem all that unreasonable. It's actually quite reasonable.

We pay a monthly subscription cost for voice to support ~500k of us. Dusties, who get into the game for free, need to pay something to get access to an infrastructure for a projected ~2 million players. That seems like it makes a lot of sense.

People seem to forget as well that when EVE Voice was first introduced, there was discussion of having a subscription fee for EVE Players as well. CCP simply decided not to and use some of the money from our subscription to cover the back-end servers for EVE Voice.

So you can't use AUR to purchase ingame advantages, you use AUR to purchase basic functionality?

Voice comms is pretty much a necessity in team gameplay :(

e: It's early days yet though. Nothing up is truly indicative of what makes it into the game

Breaking NDA talking about it probably but I would like to make absolutely certain that you all don't feed into the damn propaganda by saying that it isn't a -necessary- feature, it's just so you can voice chat in general/corporate channels - not squad/teams in combat.

Obviously EVE players would have issues with trying to pay DUST mercs planetside - if say particular planetary laws made possesion of ISK illegal outside licensed exchanges at spaceports in orbit.

Not a big EVE storyline reader..but at one point I remember ISK as defined as Interstellar Stable Kronars (tongue in cheek) versus unreliable planetary currency.

Now I assume DUST devs took easy road and are currently paying DUSTies in ISK rather than planetary currency. All the video show that.



But are those CSM remarks maybe a sign that the final DUST will bring in complication of currency exchange which so many SciFi and RL mercenaries are supposed to have to deal with?

Will DUSTies have have hugely important non-combat specialists in contract negotiation? Or will game continue to hide all that in trusted NPC merc agents?

That is can a good looking mercenary contract go bad if you accept planetary currency payment and it crashes during or as result of DUST mission before you can convert payment to goods or ISK.

Are there different risk for merc for contracts paid planetary side (verified deposit in planetary cash) versus at space stations (ISK settlement based on specific interplanetary effects not just combat action -- i.e. diplomancy may screw outcome)?

Would such planetary to ISK conversion be subject to wildly varying surcharges of individual currency changers (also trying to avoid crash effects)?

Just how confusing and complex can interacting with DUST players get? Are there going to be middle man factors outside EVE or DUST players control?
