EVE would get so many more subs IF...?

So originally, I wanted to troll this post here, but then it actually got me thinking about real answers and opinions to this question.Shocked

In the spirit of CCP Soundwave's "Little Things" post and the precursor to it, Akita T's " The 1000 Papercuts Project," why not make a thread about how CCP could REALLY get more subscribers? Not just keep its current base happy, but attract new and fresh blood to diversify the game, even throw a wrench in the current power balance a bit.

Despite my previous trolling, buffing PvE and banning PvP isn't going to get more long run subscribers. But what will? We've seen that the tutorial that's "dumbing down Eve" has been getting a lot of praise from different threads, and that CCP is making a visible motion to reach out to potential subscribers to keep them from being too scared by the QQ cry moar aspects of Eve to show that it is indeed survivable and incredibly fun. I personally think more action like this, with some fixes to PvP (wardec overhaul, nul sec sov mechanic fixes, ship balancing, etc) could really keep people in house.

So with that said, what do you think CCP could do to get more long-term subscribers? Be as specific as possible!
Better Mission AI?
Moar pewpew focused ships?
An entire expansion dedicated to ship balancing?
Underlying mechanic overhauls?
Ambulation (inb4 flames)?
Low sec buffs?
Mother ******* Sleeper invasion?!

Post your opinions here!

Nerf highsec mining, buff mining in low/null, and watch the PvP'ers chase after the newly vulnerable miners! Smile

That would make CURRENT players happy. What about bringing in new ones?

Perhaps they should expand the game into other genres. I don't know. maybe FPS, they may attract players who have never heard of CCP or EVE before.

Added story and variety to PVE, moar epic arcs and COSMOS \o/

The whole ship balancing thing is already in progress, I'm jelly of the new Amarr players that get the new and improved executioner nao :3

WiS is also a big thing as I've seen sighted several times as reason for not staying (before Incarna) and reasons to try EVE out and to stay (after). CCP already has some big plans for it form what I've seen so lets hope it turns out well.

We could probably use some improved social tools and more emphasis on paying attention to local both as a intel tool (until, if ever, they replace it) and as a communication tool, you have no idea how many newbs I wanted to give a bit of free ISK to or fitting advice and they never knew I was there until an hour later, if at all.

Along with that a better system for people to find corps, get into them, and above all....manage them. Perhaps there should be a new recruiter role built into the system that anyone can then send email "[corpname] - recruitment" and it would automatically CC all the recruiters.

Maybe make is possible that people can be invited to corp chat itself instead of us having to make our own public channel that we need to bug members to be in. The best way for someone to get to know the corpies and how they roll would be to hang in corp chat itself...if you have sensitive intel THEN we should make a channel that only very special directors and FC can get access to or something.

Do commercial advertisements about all the fun the current players have after making those changes. Cool

If you don't like it, ignore me, block me, I honestly don't care. I want to see player opinions on this. If you don't have one, you don't have to stay. Goodbye.

seriously though, just being able to learn what EVE actually is without spending 6mo in a game that you feel you might be 'griefed' in to finally figure out what to do.

It took me a while to get into EVE because although I saw it around I just knew it was spaceships...nothing else.
More knowledge of what the game is/better ads.

0. Snowball Launchers
1. CCP remembers that it's not just a simulation of a "cold, dark universe" ... but that it really is a "cold, dark universe"
2. Fix Sov
3. Fix lowsec to have a point (FW or whatever ... just give us something)
4. OP stops shiptoasting.

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

Fleshed out PvE combined with safer-esque high-sec would definitely bring in the numbers. (i.e. full on Carebear.)

PvP would benefit if PvP losses were easier to replace. (i.e. "free" ships.)

However, both would "ruin" the game (i.e. annoy a lot of the core playerbase.) But if the dumbed down income versus the HTFU player income was large enough to overcome the risk in dumbing down the game, then it would happen. I imagine that even the UO school devs have their price.

So the real question is, how do you dumb down the game enough to make the business case to justify such an overhaul of the game? Or how do you dumb down the game with PvE without sacrificing PvP in order to have your cake and eat it too?

Easiest solution is to have customized shards per market, e.g. create a new PvE focused shard. Get rid of caps, supercaps, and sovereignty in order to rework them with a PvE focus later. Create ye olde wow style battleground instances with a minimal death penalty. Downside is that new shards would cost money and there's the risk that a lot of folks would flee Tranquility for the PvE shard.

Zero-sum games aren't for everyone.

Pon Farr Memorial: once every 7 years, all the carebears in high-sec must PvP or they will be temp-banned.

I like those! What about a buffed stock market? Like tools to actually get involved in investing? From my point of view the stock market's a bit...weak...

Also, moar events. I'd love to see a dev invade highsec with a sleeper cap ship. I remember reading a news article from ISD about ships detecting movement of a capital class ship in w-space....whatever happened to those lore news posts anyway?

Maybe they should make a LEGO model and texture version on Eve Online, with spagetti-fied effects.

A LEGO Rifter ingame shooting mini-mac projs would be so 133t.

You need to ask the question "does eve need a bunch of new players in the 1st place.

For me, the answer is NO. EVE needs to grow some sure, games either grow or die, it needs enough subscirbers to stay viable, but beyond that, screw it.

You act like there aren't enough players to throw a "wrench into the current power structure".

There are more than enough, If EVE Miner that Goons blew (of paid to have blown) out of a ship fitted a rifter, fleeted up and went to Goon controlled nullsec one day, Deklien would fall....until some rare goon with 2 braincells to rub together told his mates to fit smart bombs, which knowing goons would take at least a week ti figure out. Then the "High Sec Justice Blob" could just switch to Mission running ravens, and Deklien Coaltion would die in a hail of cruise missiles....

But the high sec crowd doesn't want to do that. More people of YOUR type Anslo isn't goint to change anything, it's just going to make ships really really cheap because of all the mining lol.

And you tend to act like the game isn't "diverse" enough. I've got 12 characters spread across New Eden and it's Wormhole space, seems plenty "diverse: to me.

EVE's population is growing at a fast enough rate for me (if not for CCP), if anything I fear an influx of "new blood" will provide financial pressure for ccp to turn EVE more into an average mass appeal game , breaking away from being the EXCELLENT niche game it already is.

The truth is anslo, people like you advocate"change" simply for the sake of change, because you can't be happy with what you have or the current state of anything. CCP should resist change based on nothing.....
