Performance getting worse?

Right so, since there is a known issue with multi boxing for over a month now i found a temporary work around by installing a VM and playing Eve within the VM. That worked up until the other day.

To recap for those not having the issue if i ever attempt to open more than 1 client in eve my FPS crashes from around 250 to around 10-20 (And thats with me sitting in station doing nothing, id hate to think what happens if i undocked), i have spent hours trying to work around by adjusting settings, have 1 client on max have the other client on lowest settings possible. Didnt work.

When i was running 1 client the other day i undocked with a nice FPS of around 250, then i warped to a belt, FPS goes to 200, i looked at an astroid, FPS PLUMMETS down to like 50 and stays around that until i look away then it shoots back up to 200.

I could put both on full screen and tab between the characters but that doesnt exactly work when dual boxing during PVP.

Iv had this issue for nearly a month now, CCP know of it, iv sent every log, file, diagnostic i could think of right down to pics of my frame rate and a word document of the FPS counter.

Today, when i opened the VM to dual box again, i started having the same issues i did as if i just opened 2 clients normally. So now i pretty much cannot play this game unless i only ever use 1 character at a time.

Considering my PC has 16GB of DDR3 ram. a 3.6ghz quad core CPU, and 2 x 1GB ENGTX 560 cards SLI'd i should not be having this problem.. I have submitted petitions and gotten the responce "please attach this log and this file and heres how to do it" even though iv done all that twice already.

My previous build only have 4GB of DDR2 ram, same CPU and 2 x 1GB radeon 4870 cards, that could play 3 instances of Eve and still run team fortress 2 with no problems what so ever.

About 3 patches before the release of Inferno escalation though, everthing started going **** up!

Can CCP comment on what the hell is going on and whats being done about it?

I've noticed they changed the graphics settings.

Something with HDR and post processing most likely, try disabling HDR and post processing, I done this because I got tired of the asteroids and busy ship fleets being laggy randomly when zoomed pretty close to my ship. Zooming right out helps.

Iv done all this, iv changed every possible combination of graphics settings. I always want my main character on full settings, i dont care if my alt is on the lowest settings as i dont look at him much.

But the point is i should not have to change anything i should be able to run 2 clients at max settings with no issues what so ever!

As i did no issues only a few weeks ago.

Bout time this was fixed. Whats the point in the new power of 2 promo when you can only run 1 account at a time.
Whats going on? will it be fixed ever? is the new update going to adress this? ect ect

I think I saw some post in here while ago describing same symptoms and it was something about direct x getting nuked during some patch if I remember right from top of my head. Anyway if I was wrong, try searching/browsing for the rather frequent posts in GD - the answer is there somewhere.

That's odd, performance has gone up for me. Have you tried disabling SLI or changing the type of SLI used?

I'm running two gtx 280s on a 3.8ghz quad core, with 8GB of DDR2 and I can run ~3-4 clients simultaneously without issue. I don't have AA maxed out though.

Also I would have thought using a VM would seriously impact performance.

I would of thought that also, as i assigned 1 core to the Vm as well as 2GB of ram. But up until the other day, it was the only way i could smoothly play with 2 clients open. But just using it a few minutes ago, i noticed that the client inside the VM was going really jerky and jittery, and my main client had an FPS of about 20 undocked.

I only found that temp work around by coincidence, i didnt even know a VM could allow games to be played in them.

The settings i have for my SLI are as follows:
SLI Configuration: Maximize 3d performance.

PhysX settings: Auto Select

The other options for the SLI configration are:
Span dispaly with surround (it has a configure button)
Activate all displays
Disable SLI


Each GTX 560 is plugged into a seperate monitor, so each 1 eve client has 1 x 1GB card dedicated to running it.. Which is way more than enough.

Have you tried turning SLI off altogether? That might be barking up the wrong tree entirely, but in my experience it is always worth a try. I've had quite a few games that have had performance issues with SLI when im trying to multi box on multiple screens, usually I fiddle with the SLI method or if that fails just turn it off.

Yeh i had it turned off for a while and it didnt work either! I have literally spent hours trying to figure out what was wrong, cause i only built this PC about a month ago and at first i thought i messed something up during the build but iv stress tested each component individually and everything works fine, so i came to the conclusion it is the game and not my rig!

Ill give turning it off another go once my freighter gets to destination. Think if i change SLI settings it shuts down any applications using it.

Thanks man, i did update my GPU drivers a week or 2 ago, maybe i will try roll them back to see if that fixes anything.

OP ... dang frustrating issue, I sure agree there.

I have a similar set-up, though not as high powered as yours.
When I disabled SLI I actually went as far as to remove the strap connecting bus also.
Am running 3 clients without issue. Each separate installs, not multi-instance of one client.

Best of luck, sure hope you get some resolution soon.

Nothing clever at this time.

v strange, I'm triple boxing and not having this problem.

I do notice that sometimes my fps can crash to like 20 or so in certain situations, haven't figured out why though.

Generally when multiboxing I would advise turning AA off via the in-game menu, then using your gfx card control to manually set exefile.exe to whatever quality you like, paying special attention to turning off any power saving modes.

Believe it or not this worked for some reason, even though i tried this a week ago.

Primary client gets a fluid FPS of 60 now and secondary client changes between 60 and 100 FPS.

Hope this lasts!

Something for you to try, download Evewinhelper from this thread, https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=8660&find=unread

Install, once you are in the client, set to window mode in the Eve esc menu then right click on the EWMH tab and click "set clients"

I just did this and went from 30/60 fps to a rock steady 59.9 fps. Interval 1 set. There are a few variations you can play with that may help you.

Do you run Firefox in the background by any chance?

They have an plugin container process that uses IPC to talk to Firefox process and that is much slower on the system due to the IPC between processes.

I changed my Firefox to run the plugins in process on Firefox instead of the surrogate process and now Its much faster.

Try that, about:config and set dom.ipc Boolean values to the inverse of what they are.

Even EVe online web page loads much faster now cuz its now running inprocess and the game itself with firefox in the background seems smoother, or check your router hasnt got a lot more traffic on it, such as a big 3d TV with IP TV :)

Since i done that my Eve game runs smoother too.

you don't have intel switchable graphics do you?

Or do you have one of those new CPUs that uses turbo boost?

I'm having the same issues so I'm just trying to figure out if we have anything in common with our PCs.

Im not sure what intel switchable graphics cards are, i dont think they are though, i have to GTX 560's. My CPU is a Phenom II x 4 3.6 Ghz
