WTF with the settings CCP?

For those of you experiencing troubles though - it seems the settings were NOT wiped, the folder was just renamed. I.e. for me it was c_program_files_ccp_eve_tranqulity and became c_program~1_ccp_eve_tranquility.
However the contents were not touched. To work around this - just copy the settings (and possibly cache) from one to the other (in your respective variations of the names). I would also suggest making a backup of your settings since it seems CCP is working with those and might produce a fix which might or might not work properly)
The above should restore your settings for all accounts. At least it did for me.

EDIT:

Close EVE entirely, including the launcher, and relaunching it fixes the issue. Panic averted.

This fix is actually not viable for me. I don't have any renamed folders, probably because I don't have a specific "Tranquility" folder.

I'm sorry, I can't understand how it works for you. Are you using the same client or settings for both Tranquility and Singularity somehow? And dumb test - are you sure you're looking at the settings folder, not your client folder?

You replied before I could get my edit in.

I don't use SISI. Never have. And regarding which folder I was looking at, I followed the file path you used which is very similar to mine, minus last "tranquility folder."

Repeat: Fix works if you just close out everything again and relog after you've logged in once.

Security, Security, Security: Secure Your Running Processes
Client can no longer be run in Least User Access mode. The patcher insists on needing Administrative rights, and therefore launches the running client process in an account with Administrative rights. This is very insecure, especially considering the embedded web browser, and breaks Microsoft's guidelines on ensuring running programs could be operated in LUA mode. Any weakness found in the embedded browser then becomes a fully and wholely executed exploit that will immediately gain the rights of the running process, in this case Administrative rights. This is just plain old silly folks! Sit and think with your security cap on please.

Previously, this was achieved as the patcher requested credentials to run a patch, and could then be shut down afterwards to ensure the client was once again launched in the user account with lower permissions. However, now the patcher just throws an exception if you try to run it in a normal user account even when changes are not required, and therefore prevent the ability to launch any clients in the current users permissions:

Here is an example of the exception message displayed to the user:

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "launcher.py", line 42, in [module]
File "lib\initialization.pyc", line 112, in StartLauncher
File "lib\initialization.pyc", line 51, in EnsureDirectoryIsWritable
File "lib\launcher_helper.pyc", line 17, in ExecuteElevated
WindowsError: [Error -2147483645] One or more arguments are invalid
Locals by frame, innermost last:
Frame [module] in launcher.py at line 54:
NoInternetError = [THE REST REMOVED AS THE POST OF THIS MESSAGE THINKS IT'S HTML TAGS]

Obviously, the first thought is that you want the launcher to patch the game files, which may require administrative rights, however this launcher should execute another application in the background to perform the actual update to the files. This other application's launch can prompt for the rights required IF There Actually are changes to be made, and then on completion of the process, would exit. This would mean the launcher, and therefore subsequent clients launched, will be running in the correctly constrained rights environment, without further risking system security.

Please bare this request for improvement to the chosen launcher model in mind, as it's vitally important in the current age of mostly browser exploited viri, in which your game would just act like a launch platform and infect your customers systems. This isn't what you are wanting, nor I, I'm sure.

Kind regards,

Dareth :)

Indeed, my client reverted to using the old folder again. I wonder if this was a silent fix or one-time glitch.
For future reference though - what I mentioned earlier is NOT a path it's an actual folder in your app data or user profile. It might be worthwhile for you to learn where EVE saves all the settings ( http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Clearing_the_cache_and_settings out-of-game section)

I just tried the EVE launcher again on my laptop where it didn't work. I did so after copying my most recent version from the desktop (where everything is fine) to the external HD i use for the laptop.

When I started the launcher it still said it could not find an internet connection. I saw that there was a new button though, called 'Start EVE'. That works fine.

Thank you for building in this work-around CCP

Still, I guess if you want to take this launcher somewhere, I guess you'll have to find ways to iron out the problems.

To everyone who is really angry I would only like to say this: The people at CCP are obviously working on things. Those of us who had problems are a minority. If you really lost training time, I am sure they will compensate you for it if you stay reasonable, but if I would work for customer support, I would also think twice about whether I want to be forthcoming to someone who throws insults and threats at me.

New patch apparently.

EVE broke again.

Launcher, repair, exefile all broken per the screenshots I gave last week.

I guess I can't get on EVE until someone gives me a zip of their entire working launcher folder.

The sound falloff issue was partially resolved, now instead of being able to hear all sounds from any distance you can't hear sounds if you zoom even a little ways away from your ship. The launcher sounds are a bit muffled as well and the terrible new salvager sound still gets stuck sometimes and doesn't go way unless you re-log. I've had problems with my shield booster lately as well, gistii b-type small shield booster to be exact. If I deactivate it during the current cycle (pulse it) it has a tendency to get stuck in the "flashing red about to deactivate" stage but it continues to cycle and nothing short of jumping through a stargate , docking or offlining the module will make it stop. Wouldn't be much of a problem if it didn't continue to eat capacitor until it kills the cap but it does. The overview still needs fixing, I never asked for this terrible overview locking mess with mouseover and I certainly didn't ask for overview objects to remain in the overview for up to two seconds after they/you leave grid/explode/ect. Please make these things optional if you insist on them being part of the game, there was nothing wrong with the ctrl to lock overview mechanic in the first place.

Any one having connection issues with eve, ever since this patch i keep randomly ( Lagging / Disconnect / Crash ) continuously between 10/15 to 30mintues of playing eve, it happens in stations and out in space and i just lost a Myrmidon from the ( Lagging / Disconnect / Crash ) in a mission, it is starting to annoy me as iv had to relog in today over 5 times in the past hour.

it isnt my network, i tested it and every thing is ok on my side it seems to be only eve that is having this issue, i also did a network test and it said that one of the port sockets in london is making me ( Lagging / Disconnect / Crash )??

i played these games for hours and haven't been ( Lagging / Disconnect / Crash )at all

im having issues with the launcher every time i try and use it it would stop at 1/3 update or w/e and just shut down. i was able to play in the past weeks thru the exefile thing but still the 1.6 update is about to be deployed and i think i will run into major problems updating. now i know that prolly someone had the same issue, but excuse me if i dont have nor the time neither the patience to go thru 48 pages of posts to figure this thing out and play a game. so if there is someone who knows a workaround to this launcher thing please help me.

to devs:
I just renewed my sub, i love the game and everything, but i gotta say the way u guys have been updating lately is simply counterproductive. im not going to flame or anything, just saying that beta testing is beta testing, when something is released as final it should work. making people lose hours trying to figure out a way to do ur job is not right, especially considering they pay for gametime. failing on something like this is sad considering the kind of work u did with the game.
please keep delivering good stuff and listen to ur awesome comunity!

Most recent patch. My launcher issues have subsided after doing a full reinstall of eve, yes it sucked but the launcher works fine now compared to before.

Hi Guys,

I am having several issues!

It started during gameplay I would freeze up, not only my eve client but my entire machine and would require a manual reboot, which could occur anywhere between 10 minutes into playing or 45minutes to an hour! Then the updates! My piece of cr@p launcher would get stuck on Creating Eve_online patch at 15%, the resolve/workaround varied from shutting everything down to rebooting machine and just being blindly lucky! From the latest patch being released I have been unable to update and have not found a work around of any description to help. I did however manage to petition prior to this latest update (358079) where they have just requested I attach my directs file!

Hopefully will hear something and update but this is very poor from CCP.
