Totally irrelevant now.

When your product is getting headlines like

"CCP investigates player panel that encouraged cyber-bullying"

that is bad no matter how you swing it

Why are people still babbling on about Psychology? It's irrelevant.

The issue is that The Mittani, as a CSM, suggested to people that they break the rules by harassing someone. That's it. It's been said before (self-quoting for the win):

Why do you people always blur the line between the mittani the Goon Alliance leader (note the pannel name in question here); eve pilot and the mittani the CSM chair?

just becase you are on the CSM doesn't mean your eve play is dead and no longer allowed. get over your selves all ready TIA.

This is far past eve play. This is trying to basically lead to a real death of a real human being for his own personal amusement. What he did would be considered a serious crime in many countries if that person really did take their life after this.

He best pray to whatever gods he does or does not believe in that this person doesn't die any time soon, or he will have serious legal problems on his hands.

First and for most, who is your main, and what does he do?

I just can't decide if this is a troll or not, I mean really, how dumb are you? You might want to step out side for a bit, you might find out that oxygen from trees will help with your delutions and the feeling that your are great is only correct at your moms house.

What part of him saying "Incidentally, if you want to make the guy kill himself, his name is [REMOVED]," do you not seem to understand? Do you understand what cyber-bullying laws entail, including the punishments that come along with them? You don't seem to understand that in the real world there are consequences for your actions, and those consequences can sometimes include legal action.

They went to far with this at the panel.

What they did at the panel was no longer a game anymore.

This is rather sickening actually, I waited to see what it was about cause i missed it and finally got around to looking at it.

This is practically criminal conduct.

There are real people behind the accounts we play.

Advocating pushing someone to kill themselves is freaking evil. The its just s joke line doesn't hold up under scrutiny.

I'm very disappointed in everyone that took part in that panel.

They crossed the line with this. And CCP should be ashamed for it since they hosted this scummy crap.

The guy wasnt actually suicidal though, he was just playing the sympathy card. Mocking some butthurt carebear is fine, thats all that happened here.

You dont know that. You cant make that claim.

They crossed the line that should not be crossed. This is not a game anymore after what they did on that panel.

What if I was mining, got ganked, was mocked in local and went out immediatly and hung myself? Every time a gank happens, this could potentially happen. Are you saying every ganker was an evil jerk who was trying to get people to kill themselves? Of course not. This is yet another example of players mocking a carebear who, as far as they can reasonably tell, is not suicidal. This happens on an hourly basis, if not more often.

Because no one who is genuinely suicidal plays a computer game, and says 'oh, Im depressed, and suicidal'. Not if they are genuinely suicidal. This guy was just playing the sympathy card, and therefore worthy of being mocked.

i don,t think the votes Mittens got alts or real accounts matter much now.
He lost face ,but the worst part of it CCP and EVE loose face also
If the important game media gets hold of this ,they won,t cover a great fanfest but something else

This is a game that is proud of gankers. Proud of the harsh world that is Eve. This wont really affect them that much - if anything, the subscriber base will increase as the game is brought under the public eye.

I really hope this is the case
I didn,t see that alliance keynote hoping to get a link to it.
But from what i see on the forums is enough to get me worried
I hope this will not escalate to some bigger gamesites

Mittani the Great's supporters' only "defenses" for Mittani the Great:

"Who is your main?"

"Where did you get your psychology degree?"

"Suicidal people deserve to die. Better for the gene-pool."

"10,084"

"First and for most, who is your main, and what does he do?"

"STFU carebears"

"This is happening only because people hate Goons"

These excuses are getting pathetic and do not explain anything about Mittani's misconduct.

So let me get this straight. An Eve playing douche bag full of internet machismo is unable to distinguish the line between a game and reality, and says some really stupid stuff in the heat of the moment. Internet machismo guy is then unable to backtrack lest look weak in front of his equally ridiculous peers, so does the courageous thing by playing it up as 'nothing special'. Cue hordes of sycophants trying their level-best to defend said douche bag's actions using astonishing idiocy as their reasoning tool.

Why am i not surprised?

I have the feeling public attention over this will force CCP's hand and we won't see Mittani in CSM for much longer. That, or CCP actually want another enormous public relations disaster on their hands.

You guys sure come unglued fast when the other side stops being nice, don't you? Sing for me little Goon, sing.

It is absolutely 100% ok to do whatever you please to them in this video game, as long as it lies within the parameters of gameplay set forth by CCP.

Their mental condition is in no way your concern, they chose to play the game, this can happen in THIS game, not. your. problem.

Don't try to take my words out of context by cleverly leaving out the fact that we're talking about something that happened in a video game.

Exactly, they took it out of the game. Thats a, NO GO.

The ones defending it are just as bad.

Sociopaths.

They still dont get it, they still think this is a joke. Look at their posts, it says it all.

This is a come to god moment and they are just not getting it.

The Mittani may call his outburst to be the culmination of his personal moral compass.

But ethics are defined by the moral majority, which in the interest of keeping the peace are best publically proclaimed. That which you believe to be true, you can whisper to those of a similar mind.

Though for some CSM members fanfest is more of a public self gratifying egoboost and does not necessarily reflect upon their qualities as representatives of the player community, I certainly do hope decisions that affect my game are made with more thought and consideration.

I trust my vote for Trebor was cast for someone who is able to keep the kids focused. Only time will tell.

Especially since none of those cover the fact that what he's done isn't about the game anymore, it's about a real world situation that can have real consequences. Carebears, mains, goons... they need to learn really quickly that this video game crap means nothing when you start inciting harm to other people IRL.

Depends on the "bad rap" actually. Too bad and it might arouse negative sentiments from people that never tried the game.

EVE was already known as a wonderful refuge for players with attitude. Hyping the more cutthroat aspects of the game works well, but it's a thin line CCP has to walk.

It's one thing to hype EVE as a sandbox where you can do as you please including scamming, griefing, suicide-ganking and so on, but it's a different matter for CCP to let in-game anti-social behaviour extend past the game and at one of CCP's official player gatherings at that.

All this hubbub is quite indifferent for me. But, it can get out of proportion if people make it look like CCP is endorsing anti-social behaviour out of the game.

incorrect again, the only thing that is demonstrably wrong here is that publically encouraging others to grief a specific player is against the EULA.

The "suicidal bawwwww" stuff is just sensationalist nonsense.

You don't hop to the defense every goddamned emo teen threatening to "kill themselvesLOL MY HEART IS DARK" do you?

Has the out of game 'publicity' got to the point where we should be referring to, The Mittani, Eveonline player, in the past tense?

This is not a signature.
