So did the suicide ganking insurance nerf actually do anything

Judging by the cheap high alpha T3 BC constant ganks, and the 5 thrashers can kill a hulk i am thinking not
CCP why do you keep doing this, remove something then add something that completely negates the nerf in the first place.

if you have 300mill in T3 BC loses, compared to a few billion ship kill, its really a no brainer..

couple of solutions
1) give freighters type ships more EHP and add slots for tank
2) remove cargo scanners - its a suicide gankers dream

No need to remove cargo scanners. Just add them to the list of GCC actions.

Suicide ganking is not a bad thing. I don't know why people can't tell the difference between gameplay in a video game and real world crime.

But since people did not counter Nano's with other nano's, bitched moaned and complained endlessly, they were nerfed instead. So as people keep on complaining about suicide ganking (and if CCP continues their old pattern) suicide ganking will eventually be "adjusted" somehow whether or not you people think that it is a problem or not. Personally for 4B isk, I wouldn't mind higher resists on an Anshar making being rep a bit more viable vs modest size gangs (for low sec/null sec)

difference is simple: in game you have no consequences.... In RL you have.

1) don't carry more than ~2 bil ISK of unshielded cargo (not double-wrapped) in your freighter.

It's really a no brainer...

Actually it did. But it did not discourage those who truly love it and love doing it.

The goal was not to stop it, but not to reward it. Technically before it was almost a win/win aside from the lost money on mods/guns.

Now if you fail you lose everything... Well mostly.

1) More EHP will just yield more gank ships

2) Use cargo containers and courier contract them.

It was never about getting rid of ganking.

It was about fixing a mechanic that clearly was overpowered and needed to be fixed.

Like my personal all time favorite gank method, I even laughed when I heard about it.
When black ops first came out , gankers would gank someone then jump to low-sec to keep themselves from being Concorded.
Even though it will always be a classic and very cool move in my mind, hats off to the people that thought of it and used it.
CCP had every right change the mechanic.

The insurance nerf?

It forced Suicide Gankers to HTFU.
It forced Suicide Gankers to Adapt.
Lately, CCP's heavy-handed nerfing behavior forces us to keep our ganking innovations secret....
but we put the time and energy into developing our tactics and reap the benefits: gallons of miner blood and tears.

Don't fear, miner-bear. CCP Devs are doing their best to protect miners from themselves.
Luckily, for us - they are incompetent.

- Separate gate guns from Concord, triple or quadruple security hit when Concord has to put down their donuts to sort out unruly elements.
- Give sec. gain to low-sec a huge bump, remove it in null (no "law") and decimate it in high-sec.

There, sorted suicide ganking once and for all. Still perfectly viable but with risk and cost equal to the deed.
