Material Efficiency: "Oops, someone cut in line."

I have tried to position myself to use a ME research slot anywhere from a week to a month ahead of time, but it never works, I always get this "Oops, looks like someone cut in line" message.

Can anyone explain to me what this is, and if there is a way to avoid getting it? Thank you.

I never encountered this myself but then again i only ever did ME research in a public slot once.

Maybe the one that cut in line has more standing with the corp that owns the station?

What this means is that someone's put a job in before you did, so the timing has changed, and that 'empty' time is gone.

i.e. you're trying to put a job into slot 17, which has only a week left before it's free. You select it, put the other details in, and hit submit. Someone else has done the same (maybe starting before you. only matters when you submit the job) and submits before you. Slot 17, a week from now, is now used.

It shouldn't happen frequently. Just don't take your time over putting the job in. If it does happen, pick a new slot and carry on.

If you are waiting for the slot to be free (green) and then submitting a job, you will always be too slow to submit the job if you are using a public lab at a NPC station.

Instead you can queue the job in the slot with the lowest time left (yellow). You will get a pop-up warning about this, letting you know your job won't start right away.

For what it is worth, I do free ME research for BPO with collateral under 500m, whenever I have free research slots. Send me an EVE-mail to arrange it.

Sometimes the client fails to update the status of slots too, and I have seen this at my personal POS. The client will keep showing a slot free but when you try to install it shows that message. Sometimes a re-logging is required to solve the mismatch of states.

If your trying to do material efficiency research in any where but yours or a friends pos. or an outpost, Good luck.

All the research slots that are station based are overloaded with jobs.
