Moving from USA to China

So... I'm not exactly new to EVE (first post on the forums though)...

However, I might potentially have an issue...

I presently live in the US, played EVE on a US server / have done so for several years now.

Due to employment, however, in less than a month, I'm moving to China. I know that EVE has a different server based in China. So... does anyone know if it would still be possible for me to access the US server / my character while I'm in China?

Thanks in advance.

In theory I don't think the great censorship firewall will actually prevent you from connecting to the western server, China's insistence on localization is more about isolating their own citizens than preventing foreign nationals from accessing out-of-country accounts.

Basically, if your machine is using the European client, you should be fine. If you buy/download a new copy while in China it'll probably be restricted to the Chinese server.

(I know Chribba got hold of a Chinese client and connected to their server from the west once, so it definitely works the other way, at least.)

When I was in Shanghai I couldn't connect to Tranquility. The great E-wall of China wouldn't allow it

And I didn't want them to come at me with their clones http://youtu.be/OHZIUdHm6b4 Shocked

From what I know, chinese gov mostly enforce the firewall for its own citizens. All my friends who went to China recently received a special router to be able to access their account and things worldwide without any trouble. As an american citizen in China, you should be able to receive this item as well and so you should be able to connect to Tranquility.

I guess your company has a branch in USA.

Go to your friendly computer guy and ask him to open up a VPN port somewhere in some obscure part of your US infrastructure.

Connect to it, and try to explain it is absolutely neccessary for you to have that VPN.
