What am I doing wrong?

I have re-installed Eve about 6 times times now - it runs after each full download and re-install but then a day later when I try play it says "corrupted blah blah blah". The repair tool does not work. If I only download the installer it says the directory already exists. Duh.

So I have to delete/uninstall and re-download install to play once. Since I'm in Singapore it takes 2 hours to download as every megabyte is screened by the thought police.

Yes, I have created two petitions now with the same useful advice to re-install. With respect: this never happened before this ridiculous download manager - and I've been playing for 8 years.

I am on my final legs here - getting bored with the game anyway but spending 2 hours to log in each day is about to break the camel's back. Any useful suggestions please?

Did you try disabling the AV software?

Have you set the launcher to close after EVE starts?

Also does it work if you exit and then start it up again in a few minutes?

I set the launcher to close after the second or third time.

It keeps working same day - I can log in as many times as I like. But so far I haven't survived a downtime. So frustrating.

That is really weird (the taking a day to stop working).

Do you shut down your computer at night, or sleep, or leave it running (just checking everything I can think of)?

I always shut down the PC at night. I guess the worst part is that this all started with the download manager - I hate when an "upgrade" breaks something.

I'll try re-install one more time then I'm done. This can't go on.

Thanks for the replies anyway :)

I would start looking for the reason of your woes with something that happens daily.

Does your AV or any other app run some type of automatic/background scan daily?

Do you turn your computer off daily? (some hardware issues only manifest after power cycling.)

Do you run any type of process manually or visit a website daily that could be affecting your files (or that particular spot on the hard drive)

Downtime happens daily- does your client think it needs a new (improper) patch after each downtime? Maybe start client without using the launcher?

Do you share your computer with someone? (They are doing something to cause this issue while you are at work.)

You may have some type of hidden malware that re-asserts itself daily at odd intervals.

Do you do basic maintenance on your hard drive like defrag/scandisk type of activities? Scandisk will identify faulty spots on a hard drive and mark them as "do not use". There are many others

Do you mess with your registry ever?

Probably many more things should go here...

Wow.

The repetitive nature of this suggests to me a VIRUS. Update and run all your AV AND run anti-malware as well.

No one else has posted about this and it is forum worthy for sure. But I see nothing else but virus/worm symptoms here.

if you go into the EVE folder, you can just launch the .exe without the launcher, which might help temporarily. Can't remember the exact name as not on gaming machine, but I think it's fairly obvious.

You shouldn't need to turn off the AV whilst downloading. Although you should turn off the auto-update of the AV whilst downloading.

Make sure all the old EVE files are deleted. So you do a fresh install.

If using windows even the ones in:

users\***\AppData\Local\CCP

AppData is hidden so you have to type that in.

***= whatever you have called your computer.

I'd try that first if it was me.

i've used revo uninstaller (free version) many times with great success. it removes the app, all registry entries and anything else that might be hanging around.

download the free version here:

http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html

if this doesn't work, i would highly recommend backing up your important files and wiping your drive. a clean install of your OS will definitely resolve any problems.

another suggestion: Post this to the issues subforum.

I disagree!

If it works until reboot, it would seem your OS is not saving when you shutdown. I would do a disk check.

Hmm, potential virus - nuke it from orbit, only way to be sure Lol

As others have mentioned, try a disk check.

However, you could test the shut down issue by shutting it down now, then trying to play EVE (after starting the computer of course...).

Could we get your OS and system specs please? Might be helpful

But some other ideas and questions

Have you run a full AV scan of your system right before and after a new EVE install? It could be that your AV program is flagging a file that it thinks is a virus and quarantining it. Usually, you'll get some sort of notification of this though

Is it the same tile that gets corrupted every time? Could be another indication of misbehaving AV software if it's flagging the same file every time. If it's not the same file every time, it could be an indication of bad sectors on the HDD

Do you have anywhere else you can install EVE? Like a different partition of your hard drive or an external hard drive. Not sure if the external hard drive would work though, never tried it myself. It'd be slow, but at least if it works you'd have access to EVE without reinstalling every day

I also recommend that you run Defrag and Scandisk. CCleaner is a good option because it also comes with a Registry tool that scans for issues and tries to fix them and the basic version is free. It's defrag is at least a little more entertaining to watch than Window's defrag...

Also clear out your Temporary Internet Files folder (do a search to find it) of all files including hidden ones. To unhide hidden files, hit Alt, then Tools -> Folder Options -> View (tab) -> Find the entry that says "Show hidden files, folders, and drives" and make sure that's checked. I've noticed that sometimes some nasty stuff can be hidden in there. Not guaranteed to solve your problem, but might as well get it out of the way

after installation it runs fine, but after reboot launcher says "corrupt files"? That sounds odd.

As already suggested:

* Check the hard disk for viruses. Use a clean system for that task, not that one you're currently running.
* Check the harddisk for physical damages by apropriate tools: chkdsk or the drive internal SMART checks.
* After successfull installation, create a hash over all files within the eve installation folder. re-check that hashes after the launcer again says "corrupt files". Which one has changed?

I still think some over zealous AV programs can do this to a game. It happens with a lot of games these days. Try pausing the AV before the launcher does its thing.
