Any ideas on why tech is rising and what the ceiling might be?

I'd like to see the so called bottleneck first. There hasn't been a sign of technetium demand being higher than supply in two years...

Three things are or may be happening in the medium term that affect Technetium price.

1) There will be less minerals in the economy. This means less stuff will be built. This reduces demand for resources that are not minerals, the volume of Tech used per week will likely be lower. (Caveat: if the mineral crisis sees an increase in the use of Tech 2 relative to Tech 1 this reduction may be minimal or Tech demand could even rise).

2) The devs have hinted that moon goo may be introduced as a rare drop while mining. (I presume they mean null sec mining not including wormhole space but you never know).

3) Moon goo may get rebalanced.

Currently Tech prices are controlled by a cartel of nullsec alliances who keep the price artificially high. I suspect there are very extensive stockpiles of Tech that haven't been released to the market simply because it would crash the price.

What we've been seeing over the last few weeks is a series of very clever market manipulations designed to push tech price up and create a panic so that as much of these stockpiles can be off-loaded before the game is adjusted and the price tanks.

The conspiracies are strong with this one.

Certain nullsec developments might actually make this a reality. Remains to be seen though.

goonswarm now controls enough tech to be the opec of the market and I'm abusing that position as much as possible

that, and we just murdered and replaced 30+ tech moons which causes a delicious spike by causing a supply disruption

the short answer is stockpiles have gasped their last breath and so the supply has dropped, and because I control enough moons to ensure it's sold properly (no panic dumping, maintaining spikes, preventing blocking orders) it's going to continue to get played like a fiddle

sadly the only other alliance that controls as much as we do (PL) devolves tech control to a low level so I can't cooperate with them and really drive things insane

You know for years I've mocked people who have called tech a cartel because frankly, the Northern Coalition was too goddamned inept to defend itself from a few russians, much less properly sell its tech.

But I guess it actually really is a reality now, sort of.

the NC tried to cartel, but they held all their tech at the corp level instead of the alliance level so they could never make it work
