Considering that Dust won't cost anything but download time, why wouldn't someone just try it?

The proper term is “zergers”. Blink

…the difference being that there is actual terrain and environmental features that can be used both to your advantage or to your disadvantage to make those numbers matter less. Nothing like having a platoon or five being dropped on your back-door, only to methodically decimate them with a well-organised and well-positioned team as they only ever trickle in three at a time. I'm tempted by planetside 2, but hesitant about playing another SOE game. They manage to ruin all they're games in the end.

Confirming Planetside 1 was in that group of games they ruined.

Can't wait to dual box my Dust toon and EVE toon on the same machine!

Planetside 2 and dust are really completely different games.

Planetside 2 is all about massive battles and from what I have heard they are aiming for something like 666 VS 666 VS 666
per continent. It isn't instanced, and it is F2P and has been stressed many many times by the developers that it isn't going to be P2W. If you want to check out more about it check out the following links

http://www.reddit.com/r/Planetside/ (Developers also post here)

You could even ask them questions on twitter, and its quite surprising to get answers back from the lead developers fairly regularly.

Dust simply doesn't come close to that sort of scale. It is a drastically different FPS focusing more on small scale instanced scenarios, pretty much like counter strike. I personally won't be playing dust simply because it isn't on the PC, no offence to the console gamers out there but I just can't get the hang of playing with a controller. I have allays played FPS's on the PC and to me playing on a controller just feels extremely sluggish and unbearably inaccurate.

Either way I would probably play both (If dust ever made its way on PC), but in my opinion the success of dust depends entirely on how well it is integrated with EVE. Otherwise dust is just going to be yet another generic console shooter and will fail horribly.

No console.

I have a PC to play EvE on. Even upgraded it recently to play EvE better (no lag in stations! ...and sound!) - I will definitely be trying Planetside 2, while DUST will remain an unplayable curiosity.

Dust was dead on arrival the moment they slated it out for console. Trying having that many players on console... Even if PC port arrives one day, it can't have than many players without a complete redesign, or to be separate from console players and still linked into Eve. It'll be a mess.

It goes against everything that Eve stands for. If I want to go that way, I'd play BF3 or something that's actually good.

OK,

Both Sony games. Both seem fairly similar in concept.

How do they compare?

Has anyone here been able to see both or play both yet?

Who will end up cannibalizing a player base from who?

Personally unless the Dust integration with Eve is really amazing and Planetside 2 is pay to win I'll probably be playing PS2. Console controllers are impossible to aim with. There are plenty of games they're suited for. Fighting games, sports games and racing games come to mind. FPS, MMORPG and RTS games are just terrible on controllers though and Dust is 2 out of 3. Plus I want to wait and see how badly being on a PS3 will hinder further development post-launch.

I can blow your entire reasoning for NOt playing Dust out of the wat

You know what a BETA is right? Testing... not the full game or full range of features... Just because its not in the BETA doesnt meant it wont be in the final game.

That you have to buy a PS3 whose innards are composed of hardware that people leave out on the curb on garbage day, and look at the eye-cancer-inducing Dust graphics?Big smile

I always loved seeing low-flying galaxies... meant I actually had something my AA suit would hit Oops

"Cutting in" on TC/IF tank fights was a lot of fun though, especially in the hover-buggy since nobody ever thought they were worth anything.

I don't think it works that way, games designed primarily with controllers in mind are awful to play on mouse and keyboard.

Even most conversions of console games to PC stink. The "feel" is never right, going from one to the other, not unless a lot of thought has been put into the conversion, which is seldom the case.

Playing a straight up, un-converted console game with m/k? Only if you're a masochist Big smile
