You don't fit freighters with mods or rigs.
You 'fit' them with implants/hardwires.

Other way around. A freighter can only loot a freighter wreck. You can try to nibble away at it with smaller ships, but you're going to need roughly a bajillion of them (and hope the hauler didn't use freight containers).

Still, yes, you're going to need a freighter for a freighter gank, and with the upcoming crimewatch changes, that freighter will be in danger of being shot to pieces.
