How long would this take

and how many jumps

Going across the widest point in EVE to the other (through 0.0, low to hi to low to 0.0 again) using Jumpgates and not jump drives.

How long time wise would it take and how many jumps would it be? I have friends interested in the game that always ask me how big it is and I just dont have an answer

1 minute per jump work it out from there

But when you factor in all the gatecamps from leet pvpers it takes a lot longer (also if you wish to converse with them they will probably tell you why all missions should be in lowsec)
I dont normally troll, but when i do i do it on General Discussion.

EVE trek is no more practical than going to Isengard at level 10 in LotRO.

A better example of 'how big EVE is' for your friend would be, the typical server for an MMO has 2000 people. EVE has 20,000 on a bad day. 50,000 on a good day. That other MMO? Well, 2000 is max. Most have around 800 at any given time.

To the title question, you would be looking at a month if you wanted to trek EVE for the statement value, if you trained in advance to fly a Covert Ops. You would need much longer to say you had been to every system in the game.

roughly 2300 jumps, give or take for a complete circuit, not direct run. you can cross the map in relatively few jumps as there are some long slides that make it possible. Still, it'd be about 25 or so...give or take....if you don't mind going through Rancer, Amamake and Bosena on the way. avoiding those would add 12 to 14 jumps depending....thereabouts. So, one side of the map to another should take less than an hour.

We must accommodate the idiocracy.

25 jumps might be accurate for one side of high sec to the other, but Eve is considerably larger than that.

I do not know the exact amount of time this would take...but I am sure Captain Janeway and Commander Adama would drop their coffee cup when they learn the answer.

I seem to remember someone went all the way round the perimeter (not the system) a while back. Took him ages.

I picked two random systems - M-VACR in Cobalt Edge and M-SRKS in Delve - their distance is 82 jumps. Doable in a few hours.

My attempts on dotlan always yield routes around 80 jumps in length from one side to the other, picking likely systems at each end.

But a google search ("longest route in eve") leads to this thread:
http://community.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=580998&page=1
which includes the following:

Here is a statistical report on which systems are furtherest:

The most remote system in the game is E7-WSY with an average of 61.95 jumps to all other systems. The longest route in the game is from 373Z-7 to either SVB-RE, 3KNA-N, or BU-IU4, any of which is 99 jumps.

The most remote system in empire space is Gererique with an average of 42.50 jumps to the other empire systems, assuming all routes avoid null sec. The longest route through empire space is from Gererique to Moh at 59 jumps without passing through null sec.

The most remote secure system is Jorus with an average of 31.58 jump to get to the rest of secure space. The longest route through high sec space is from Jorus to either Bashyam or Balanaz both of which is 51 jumps.

Until you meet the first gatecamp. About 4 beers I would say.

WoW holds your hand until end game, and gives you a cookie whether you win or lose. EVE not only takes your cookie, but laughs at you for bringing one in the first place...

I ran into a gatecamp on my 1 cross-eve venture, I survived it by making like Mort and making them embarrassed to be near me Ugh

Ask them how long a piece of string is.

The time needed to travel through multiple 0.0 will change depending on the obstacles you bump into. On the other hand travel from one end to another could be instantaneous if you happen to find the right wormhole.

About 95 jumps, takes about 2 h (that's when it was done, no calculations). Keep in mind that this is not the longest reasonable route one could possibly take. The 2 widest systems are actually well connected.

There used to be this guy a few years back that made it his mission in EVE to visit every system in EVE. I think it took him more then a year to achieve that. Then he went trying to visit all the wormholes. I think it makes for an hilarious end, but I can't remember having heard much from him since that. Lol

Also depends upon what ship you are in and each system you go through. Some systems only need a few hundred thousand km warps to get to the next gate, then there is 9-2 in venal and its near enough 300 AU warp. Whenever asked how big EVE is I say:

Take a rocky planet in eve, any rocky planet and measure the total surface area. The surface area on the planet is millions of times larger than all of WOW ground put together. Now think that there are something like 30889 planets in EVE. Then there are the hundreds of thousands of moons, thousands of stars, and we haven't even started on the infinate size of every single system. So yea, eve is massiveBig smile

The thing about space though , while it's massive, it's also quite empty for most of the time. That rocky planet is generally just scenery, and not very good one either, because you have to warp to it first to actually see it most of the times.

That said, with the increasingly faster travel-times EVE has shrunken immensely. While it used to be that even most regions used to be almost like individual communities that had little contact or traffic with their neighbors, now you can go and shop in Jita from everywhere in empire within 20 minutes. Not to mention that, with some preparation you can take your entire null-alliance cap-fleet with support and be on the other side of the universe in even less time.

tss.... the coastline of the Easter Kingdoms alone approaches infinite length

in contrast the circumference of the eve universe is quite finite

Reading comprehension FTL.

He's looking for an impressive way to tell his friends how big the Eve universe is, not actually make the trip.

I don't judge people by their race, religion, color, size, age, gender, or ethnicity. I judge them by their grammar, spelling, syntax, punctuation, clarity of expression, and logical consistency.

Just tell them "ITS VERY FREAKING BIG!"

Welcome to Eve. Everyone here is an Evil Sick Sadistic Bastard who is out to get you. Anyone who tells you otherwise is either trying to scam you or use you.
