Cybernetics change?

Did cybernetics get changed from 1x or 2x recently? It is showing up as a 3x skill, and it's saying that I have it trained to level 4 and am half way to level 5. I had it to level 5 before, and I haven't been podded in a non-updated clone. Just wondering how I could have lost half of a skill level...

I trained cybernetics a year and a half ago, it was 3x back then.

Hmm....I'm not sure then. I used +5s before, so I know I had the skill to 5.

I've had cybernetics 5 since 2006 or so, was rank 3 then as well.

edit: they wouldn't change a rank of a skill willy nilly, it would have an impact on total sps for every player in the game, much whining would be done.

Yeah, it wouldn't make sense, and I'm sure I would've heard about it. I'm just confused as to why it says I have level five 54% completed. I guess the only reasonable explanation would be that I in fact did get podded with a slightly out-of-date clone. Therefore, I wouldn't have lost an entire level of the skill, only the non-protected fraction of the SP not covered by my clone. But like I said, I'm almost certain I've kept my pod up-to-date. I guess it's really not that big of a deal, I'm not going to waste my time petitioning it.

You were podded twice on the same day in January. Coulda been then. Or maybe you selected the wrong level of clone insurance one time.

Used to be, you would lose 5% of the un-insured SP. And those SP came off of the largest skill you owned.
A rank 3 science skill is 10 to 14 days of training for most people. Losing 46% (5+ days?) seems like a huge amount .

It's not.

Taking a rank 3 skill from lvl IV to lvl V requires 632k SP. Half of that is 316k SP. To lose that much in one go, your clone needs to be 20× the amount short of your total SP (6.3M SP).

Or, going through the calculation in the other direction: your clone is 6.3M SP short of your total SP. When you're podded, you lose 5% of that missing amount — 316k SP — from your most expensive skill, or at most 50% of the SP of that skill. Cybernetics V is 768k SP, so an SP loss of 316k SP does not hit the 50% ceiling and the full amount is lost. This leaves some 450k SP in the skill, which is enough for lvl IV (138k SP) and for half of lvl V being trained (the remaining 316k SP).
