When looking for a corp.

When I first looked at the site I found a list of player friendly corps but have been unable to find it again.

As a new player, can anyone give me some helpful tips on finding a corp?

And maybe things I could hope/expect to find? Ideally I want to learn to Pvp.

I've looked at the recruitment channel in the game but it just seem like spam. Tried to ask a couple of questions, didn't go well! :)

The recruitment channel in game is pretty spammy, yeah. There's some good groups in there, but there's also probably a lot of ****.

You might have more luck in the recruitment forums here. You may find that many corps may be reluctant if you're on a trial due to fear of spies...Though if you find a group you like you can talk to them (most corps have a public channel you can join). As a newbie with no connections you may just have to try stuff out and see what fits. There are a few good pure training corps like EVE University which exist exclusively to train newbies to do stuff - they do PVP as well.

make sure that if you join a corp and it turns out to be not what you expected - no one is ever online, they're not very helpful, they don't PVP nearly as much as they say they do...you find another one. Quite a few newbies join the game, find a corp that turns out to be awful, then get bored and quit rather than finding a better group.

Anyway, (shameless plug) my own corp does frigate/cruiser (primarily frigate) PVP in the form of faction warfare in the Minmatar militia. You can hang out in our public channel ("We fly rifters") if you are curious.

As a noob that play the game for only 2 week I found this lesson painful. Also I plan to quit the game and biomass this char.

I never saw a mmo with such a paranoid community. I was invited to a corp to have a nice start and a chill out experience and it turned out that I landed right into a heavy war between the corp members. I tried to stay neutral and enjoy the game, but after 2 days I was asked to leave the corp because.. I was considered a spy! Now I landed in that crap Scope npc corp with huge taxes and I dont trust anybody anymore.

Not to mention that everybody's first question is: who's you main. And if I say that I have no main and I just started to play the game, I turn into a target for bad jokes and even I'm cursed!

So this is a warning for all those who wanna start playing this game... the first weeks or month can be a extremely unpleasant experience. Better find someone to activate your account with a plex for the first month, so you will not regret later spending real money for subscription.

Good bye,

These are the guys we don't want in EVE. People giving up after just 1 try aren't fit for EVE at all.

That you found a corp that you joined and it didn't turn out to be a crappy corp is not the fault of EVE, it's the corp you joined and also your decision to join a corp without a doing some research in corps you are willing to join.

Jumping in the first corp you encounter likely is almost always a way that ends in disaster.
Agree, this also comes with the way EVE works and the huge amount of spies there are around here.

EDIT: you were classed as a spy due to 2 reasons as far as I can see:

1.) you are a trial account, which mainly makes it more likely as it's an free and effective way to get into any corp.
2.) you joined almost straight after you created your character, means it's hard that you already know the basics and know what you want to do in EVE.

As a former Recruitment officer, CEO and Alliance Executor, let me explain that any organization in EVE which is not at least a bit paranoid in its dealings with new members will shortly be separated from all its assets and isk.

There are quite a few players in this game who like nothing better than to infiltrate and rob, and more power to them, as the potential to commit 'crime' and 'betrayal' makes EVE such an entertaining drama fiesta, where even the mightiest alliances (BoB anyone ?) might dissolve overnight due to 'treason'. If your alliance does not have at least 50 spies in it from other rival alliances you hardly count in the game Blink

So actually the more tedious and Kafka-esk your recruitment process seems, the more likely the group you are joining will actually be successful in EVE. Don't worry about it, just never EVER pay anyone isk to get accepted because that is a popular scam.

That said there are many organizations like Agony Empire and EVE University and many other corporations that are very noob-friendly and will take you in without a lot of fuss.

Don't despair ! As time passes it will get easier to get accepted. Just don't switch corporations every week, recruitment officers will find that very suspicious.

Look in the EVE Corporations, Alliances and Organizations Center for serious recruiting.

Thanks for the replies thus far!

I've already decided to subscribe to the game and upgrade my account, so it won't be a trial for much longer.

Seems like a heck of a learning curve, but I only see that as a good thing.

I will make up a basic thread and post to that forums in the hopes of finding something.

Is the reason I biomass my first char after 2 weeks of play. To call me a scumbag spy when Im just a noob is one thing. Being asked to quit a corp only after 2 days I was invited in, that's something completely different and will give everybody a very good reason to think that I'm really a spy or a scammer and refuse to recruit me in the future.

I'm not sure I could biomass a character. So much time seems to go into it, just to get going.

Considering that I have only 600 skill points, I don't have anything valuable to loose. I'm not een sure I will continue playin after this first month. But lesson learned. Never trust in "nice guys" who wanna help and recruit. Find the corp you need by yourself.

And that´s a bit of an overkill as well, no one will hold it against you if you joined and left one or two no-name corps in your first month in game... actually on the contrary, that´s the "noobish" thing to do, a pro would not fall for those "we-do-everything" 5 members corps, imo.
Well, perhaps some are paranoid enough an actually hold it against you, but then you probably wouldn´t want to join those corps anyway.

Just don´t make that a habit, I would say an average membership of six months in a corp should be enough to avoid any suspicion that you are a corp-hopper or worse a spy.

Also, some corps have a good reputation, so having them on your employment history will help you: Join Eve-University for half a year and you will have little problems finding an "advanced" (Null-Sec) corp, joining RvB for example should prove your commitment and desire to PvP and corps that specialize there......

Agree, but there is a problem. Most of the community seems to be paranoid and they tend to consider new faces as a spy, a walkin bomb or whatever. So later on if I explain what happened and why I left a guild after only 2 days, I can make things worst as ppl will tend to say: nice story bro, now gtfo. Similar to J'Poll;s attitude.

I think this is a problem where ccp should step in a bit. A new player should have some mark or something so nobody will consider us like some pro spies, or even worst.. get some bounty on our heads just because you can't convince someone that you are a new player for real.

I heard about EVE Uni watching the evefest stream and indeed they seems to be a nice corp. How can I join them? And also, now that the faction warfare is comming, can I join EVE Uni as a gallente? I still learn the game, not sure how the corps work...

Zhellin your a bit of a pessimist.

One corp is not definitive of all corps in game. You just got unlucky. Eve uni takes every one regardless of starting race.

By they way you need to get thicker skin. When some one says to you: "you a spy?" Your response should immediately be: " Oh Absolutely bro you know my mains a titan pilot in goonswarm." and everyone will have a good laugh because that ridiculous for any one to say.

Ixaka: Eve uni, Red vs blue are good starter corps that take virtually everyone. And no they dont care about spies.

Use the Corp and alliance recruitment center on the forum, not the recruitment channel in game. You can check out corps that are recruiting as well as post a page for yourself saying your looking.

Things to look for:

Does the corp have an informative update website?
Does the corp have a forum and do there members use it?
Does the corp have a teams speak, Ventrillo, mumble etc voice client?
Is the corps goals/objectives focussed and clearly stated? (Corps that tend to say we do whatever dont usually last long).
Does the corp have there own killboard other then Battleclinnic?

Haha.. good one and also very good advice, thanks. Lol I will keep this in my mind next time someone will ask me about my main!

Well, its too late now as I destroyed all my PI on this char and hit the biomass button. But I will recover soon as now I have a much better picture about what I need to do and how to survive in EVE. But I still dont understand how to join EVE Uni, can you point me in the right direction please?

Thanks again, I really appreciate your post :)

Yes, any races/factions can join EVE University, however we aren't involved in Faction Warfare so you wouldn't be able to do that while in E-UNI, however once you have been accepted, you retain access to things like the forums, classes, and so on even when you leave the corporation, so leaving for some FW isn't usually a problem.

Awesome, it's good to see so many replies.

When I log in next I will try and find my way to Eve Uni.

Just landed my first set of implants from a Swtor friend. So I'm told that will boost my training time quite a lot.

Indeed awesome. Also happy to see a EVE UNI and CSM member writing back, I really appreciate it.

Ok, so I will stop the biomass process and see if I can recover anything from the assets I transfered already to a new toon because he has no skill for trade yet.

Thanks again guys, happy to see nice people around :)

PS: If a EVE UNI member will ask me whos my main its safe to say that my main is in goonwaffe? :D

Just for the record, Agony runs classes for new players, but when it comes to recruiting people into the corp we look for past PvP experience and knowledge.

I fully understand your point, and totally agree with you on the part that not all new players by default are spies. Some of my friends have just started to explore EVE, they are not sure where they want to go, so for now they are just in the NPC corps finding out what they like and also looking what corps are recruiting and what each corp asks for / has to offer.

And as for the approach of new player = spy. You had bad luck on your corp, but there are a lot more corps out there that will take new players on and treat them with respect. Personally I tend to be a bit too paranoid from time to time and I really thing that being part of a (fail) null-sec alliance in the past contributed to that matter.
