yeah, it would be

if the plug was made by CCP (hint: it wasn't)

Let me point out the interesting part then my limited friend.

On your Wiki, and linked from the new launcher (On Mac clients at least) listed top and prominently is this link:

See the VERY highlighted part?

They don't need to be the ones making the plug. The pointing towards it already enough.

People who join this game aren't all aware of the fact that a large part of your survival depends on metagaming and outgame research.
So by making a false claim by CCP as GSF being a good source to learn the game without emphasising the whole thing one could also claim that CCP is running part of GSF's recruitement scams and thus diminishing other people's gamingexperience to boost other people's ingame income.

Interesting thing for Internal Affairs to look at.

it's not a "false claim" - goonswarm is an excellent place to learn the game for people who match their recruitment requirements.

Goonswarm has an excellent knowledge base available to all members (their wiki), they have a support structure for newbies with skillplans, free ships/skillbooks and advice on income generation, they offer full reimbursements for pvp ships (which helps new players a lot), they happily accept and train players from their first day in EVE (and shower them with ISK and hugs whenever the opportunity arises), from time to time they run fleets/classes specifically aimed at newbies, ...

Also there is more than one corp in GSF - if you are Russian or French (or German, or from the Netherlands, ...) or drawn towards WIDOT for some inexplicable reason you might find that you can join GSF without having ever set eyes on that mysterious SomethingAwful.com website.

In almost all cases it is a false claim because being hinted towards a corporation or alliance by CCP without the extra information that going there requires a strict out of game recruitement policy they are showing a tainted prejudice.

Nowhere do they have a hint towards the fact that new players have to do a lot of research out of the game, yet they point them towards the largest entity which relies for a big part on out of game platforms and actions.

I agree. I think Goons are a great place to learn... if you get in properly. And as stated earlier, I think they are a great aspect of EvE, bring on all the drama I say.

Either way, it's fun to have created a forum monster. Let the trolling commence.

And as for being scammed as being a great way to HTFU and cut out the WOW crowd, yeah fair enough, but maybe not in the first week of playing perhaps; you know - let people actually realise there is fun to be had first before we pummel them.

I like the fact EvE is harsh, but honestly, I'd like to login and see 100,000 people online in EvE - that is way more people for me to shoot! And that is where stuff like EvE university comes in. For me, more activity = more fun, and that goes for Goons as well. If nobody ever fights them, they will get bored. It's happened before. So yeah, all MMO's need new blood. Thats the way it works.

Do I think it's funny that Goons posted on this wiki: Hell yeah. Bless em. We'd all be more bored without them in EvE.

Failing to see how that isn't learning about eve, it's a damn sight better than the millions of "mining corps" with their "oh, you can't pvp untill you have lvl 5 in X Y Z"

You do realise they have a high intake of new players? The only way to get in without being sponsored is to be a member of SA. But they still take in a load of new players from that community and teach them how to play.

So yea, they are good for new players, given certain requirements clearly available for all to see. Goons don't scam noobs, simply because they don't have a enough isk and that would be a waste. If the new player goes out and buys a plex for it, without even doing the slightest amount of background work then we're seeing natural selection in action. What's the problem here?

I bet Goonswarm makes for a great learning experience. Thumbs up!

Loss is meaningful. Therefore is the loss of meaning likewise meaningful. It is the source of all trolling.

Its funny, but not a positive addition for the new player experience.

Stuff like this can and will hurt the CCP's bottom line if they want to use these tools for new and newish player experience enhancements, and thats the only line we aren't supposed to cross.

But some guys thing they do stuff like that because they are special, and they are, very, very special. But not in the way they believe they are, as proven, quite recently.

Now, I love Goons for what they add to the drama that is EvE. Can't wait for Jita to kick off shortly! But I am pretty sure, they are NOT the place to send brand new players looking to learn EvE. What they will learn, is how to be scammed, shot, laughed at, mocked etc.

Why not? Its an adult game, in fact really the last bastion of adult MMO's.

Yeah, they'll learn how to scam (not get scammed) but they can also learn how to do everything else in EVE, Badly ;). Joking aside, the anti elitism in Goons doesn't mean they can't teach newbies the basics in all facets of EVE. They do and have the systems setup to do so. Organisationally Goons are really on top of the game.

The only problem is, Goons have such a reputation now that should anyone want to leave Goons and find another corp, they may well have problems. The recruiters for the corp I'm in have had people lose interest in joining because of our association, via LAWN and the CFC, with the Goons. Its their loss!
