Fading of overview columns

I noticed the overview column lines are missing and instead the right of a column fades into the left of the next one. Is this intentional or a bug?

If it's intentional could there be an option to remove it, to be how it currently is on Tranquility? I find the current way is much easier to read especially if the overview columns are reduced to allow more screen estate.

It's intentional according to CCP Habakuk when I mentioned this yesterday on Sisi chat. As far as there being an option to revert to how it is now on TQ, I agree that there should be one.

I like it a lot, took a few minutes to get used to though... but I do prefer it.

Thanks for the info, i hope they give us options to remove it or as a compromise reduce the amount it fades.
Making the fading lighter / more gradual when columns are below are certain width, so those with small screen estate aren't at a disadvantage would be great.

For those that like it, im not saying it's bad but options for those that it doesn't work for can only be a good thing.

Completely agree that the whole UI should be much more configurable.

As far as the overview is concerned, I just want to pull out separate tabs as separate windows & also be able to configure each one separately on the fly rather than changes being forced across all tabs. No idea why this hasn't been done.

+1 for separate windows for separate tabs.

I'd love to see this implemented and also double-clicking no longer minimizing overview/selected item.

It looks nice aesthetically, but is annoying in practice for those who have limited screen space. For example, currently I have angular velocity displayed to three significant figures, because if something is moving at less than 0.001rad/s for whatever odd reason, I know I will have no issues hitting it. But now I need to have that column expanded more than twice as much, which is not just a waste of screen space but also is distracting and hard on the eyes, because I keep trying to read the constantly-changing faded numbers at the edge.

Ideally, we should have the option of turning fade off. Configurable user interfaces are always a good thing. Hardcoding UI appearance has never been a good thing from an end-user perspective.

It's intentional and not... the fading is intentional, but it was not really supposed to go out in Escalation but Inferno and the change has been reverted for now. So soon you will see it change back to the way it's on TQ.

I too want the ability to pull out separate tabs :)

Thanks for replying CCP Karkur.

That's good news yet just delays issues the poster quoted below sums up perfectly. Would it be possible to have an option for turning off fading, or better yet no need to fix what isn't broken. The legibility of the overview is perfect as it is, what with small/normal font sizes and ui scaling, it works for large screens and small.

As this aesthetic change can negatively affect players it would make sense if it were configurable.

I agree with prolix travail, no need to change that portion of the overview. In fleet fights we need legible text, and we need to cram a lot of information into a small space. The fading at the end seems to reduce the amount of legible text. I don't think this is something players have ever complained about, so why fix it? I believe it's an effort to make Eve more "sci-fi" and I completely applaud this effort (i love the new UI video), but at the same time you need to remember that a lot of us want "functional" just as much, if not more so, and you can't sacrifice that. Remember when we lost ship spinning? It wasn't the spinning part, it was the ability to drag and drop ships, double click to open cargo, etc. Anyway...

If you want to improve the overview please PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE! give us more tabs. Anything that makes it easier for us to sort battle info.

I too find the fading to be a little over much. Not a bad idea. But we need the detailed info more than pretty stuff.

I think I was mistaken before... the fading is most likely staying, but it's the line removal that was reverted... sorry.

Nice dodge on the "optional button" question....please don't be like facepages and force something that is not for everyone on everyone...give us options!

Please reconsider.

It would affect some players negatively for what seems to be aesthetic reasons, when the current way works for everyone. As has been said it's great to improve upon things but not at the cost of functionality we currently have.

If this is set in stone, could there be an option to turn it off or make it subtler? like lessening the depth of fade that occurs and making the place it starts to fade out closer to the right hand edge so more text is clearer?

Thanks for responding.

FYI: This topic is being discussed by our UI designers and it seems like the amount of fading will be reduced a bit to avoid reducing the displayed information.

I’m sorry to say I’m one of the ‘dislike’ brigade, I find the fading makes reading the text even harder for my old eyes.

Information should be displayed concisely, clearly and with the minimum of embellishments to allow quick and precise retention of the provided input.

Pilots will live or die depending on the above, on this I will not adapt but most likely die Cry.

Don't like it much myself, can take it or leave it but given the option would prefer to have a vertical line instead of the fade effect, uses less CPU/GPU cycles to do the line than fade text.

Yes, I also turn off desktop effects and stuff like that too. Drop shadows just seem to be so excessive these days.
