(Original Thread)

With the Incarna expansion, the original 'Basic Training' tutorial known as 'Crash Course' was updated and changed into - Aura NPE (New Player Experience) Tutorial Part 1, Tutorial Part 2, Tutorial Part 3, Tutorial Part 4.

Along with that change, 60 different Event Agents (15 per Faction) known as Tutorial Agents were forced into early retirement due to Aura NPE who has single handedly ended 'The Endless Battle' mission.

'The Endless Battle'
(2-part mission)

This used to be the new players very first 'real' mission which could only be completed once per agent in the life of the character. Part 1 was a simple Encounter mission against a single NPC which when destroyed, would drop a small specific item to be returned to Agent. Part 2 was a simple Courier mission to transport a small specific item to a nearby Solar system.

A small amount of Corporation and Faction standing incurred for completing that. The Agent would then refer players to 1 of 60 (15 per Faction) Career Agents for more advanced training on the various careers available.

Basically, the incorrectly named 'Tutorial Agents' didn't give any instruction or information to new players other than refer them to the Career Agents. The old 'Tutorial Agents' were actually Political Liaisons for their specific Faction. Those 60 Agents were a good source for gaining a 1 time Faction standing increase.

I propose 2 different options for the 60 Tutorial Agents (15 per Faction) and their mission 'The Endless Battle', 1 simple and 1 complex.

Option 1 (simple):
Bring the old 'Tutorial Agents' back out of retirement and change their Title to 'Political Agents'. Have them continue offering 'The Endless Battle' mission with a slight change to their ending dialog so they don't refer players to the Career Agents (Currently done by Aura NPE).

Option 2 (complex):
Have the new 'Political Agents' (15 per Faction) split up into 5 different Agent levels, 3 Agents per level from level 1 to level 5. Have them all offer 'The Endless Battle' mission series but have the mission difficultly and reward increased to match the higher Agent levels.

These new 'Political Agents' and their mission offers can only be completed once per Agent in the life of the player's character, just like the old 'Tutorial Agents'.

The code is already written and with some slight programming, Option 1 could be implemented very easily. Option 2 would of course take a little more time and work to implement but is still doable.

Thank you all for taking the time to read this proposal.

This. CCP keeps removing good stuff, they need to start putting some back in, and this is they type of place to start. Why make so much of there previous work obsolete needlessly?

Inappropriate signature removed, CCP Phantom.

Thanks for the support.

Personally, I prefer Option 2 but I'd be happy with Option 1.

Isn't that the one where they send noobs through lowsec to be smartbombed after Tyrannis mission load unbalancing?

CCP tried to nerf border highsec agents by making them more likely to send carebears to lowsec. Noob agent ended up doing what they wanted too. So instead of fixing what they broke by reversing Tyrannis mission nerf, they removed the mission? IngeniousCool

No, I think the mission you're referring to was in one of the Career Agents 10 part mission series, which was later changed.

The old 'Tutorial' Agents 2 part mission series didn't involve much travel. Part 1 was an encounter in the same system as the agent. Part 2 was a courier to the system next door.

All of those agents were located in either 1.0 or 0.9 high security systems, most were deadend systems. None of them ever had any low security systems enroute.

As I stated in the original post, CCP has replaced those agents with the new tutorial (Aura NPE), which doesn't give any Faction standing increase.

I'm up for anything which helps the newbie experience and increases player retention rate.

Thanks to everyone for showing support to this proposal.

It is a sound proposal with no game breaking issues and if implemented, it can't be exploited.

Just a friendly bump so other players can show their support.

Since this proposal deals with PvE, I don't expect it to get any support from CSM 6.

I support this as well...preferably with option 2. I would, however, like to know why this mission was removed in the first place?

Good question.

Like I said, when the Aura NPE Tutorial was implemented, she replaced all 60 agents who offered 'The Endless Battle' mission. The strange thing about that is there's only 3 career agent systems and 3 spawn systems (where new players enter Eve) for each of the 4 main Factions.

That accounts for 24 of the 60 original old Tutorial agent locations. I was informed that the other locations did have an Aura agent but they weren't active. Maybe they're active now, I don't know. I was also informed that the actual idea was to allow players to repeat the Aura NPE Tutorial if needed. However, players can do that anytime via Eve Help (F12 - Tutorials). Still doesn't explain the other 36 agents or the removal of 'The Endless Battle' missions.

They aren't active. There's a lot of systems out there now with Newbie corp stations and nothing in them.

They are sad and lonely places.

I think option #2 or as you called it the complex option would be a great idea for new players to be able to experience.
