Running level 1-3 security missions efficiently

Please help with the following experiment: : I have a new alt and about one week of available training time. I would like some pointers to make the best use of this one week to prepare him for running level 1-3 security missions as efficiently as possible given the limited time available. To clarify, I am not looking for a ship that manages lvl 1-2 and excels at lvl 3, all three levels are equally important for the purpose of this post. Nor am I looking for three different ships that are each perfect for one particular level but require opposite training paths. One week, ISK is non-issue, fresh toon that handles all three levels nicely and that's it.

Good luck

The first thing that comes to mind is that a ship that runs L3s efficiently wont be allowed into the gate of a L1-2 mission and the ships that can run L 1-2s efficiently cant do L3s as well.

And second what you are not looking for and what you will have to use are two different things with your attitude i say enjoy getting shafted half way down the middle

You shouls do 1-3 lvl missions as quick a possible they dont give much money you want standings from them so you could do lvl 4 missions.

I doubt that it's possible to run lvl 3 with just one week of skilltime efficiently. My best guess to achieve this would be:

- Navy Vexor
- passive shield tanking
- and minimal drone skills (don't know if drones lvl5 is achievable in time)

If you would add another week, you could try a Gila, have a (partial) tech2 tank and 5 Drones for sure.

No offence, but a dumb experiment. Unlikely to have enough skills to effectively run lvl 3’s without having to warp in and out. And you will need more than one ship as the one required for lvl 3’s, with such poor skills, will likely be an problem with ship restrictions in the lower lvl missions

Why would be my question?

Carnivore has a fair idea. You can probably squeeze in a Gila just about - it doesn't take much in the way of skills to get into one.

But as potato IQ says - not the very best of experiments. You will be able to sit there and wait for a lvl 3 mission to finish while your T1 drones just do their stuff... just about. Forget about efficiency, just get the skills to (barely) fit the shield tank and tag on whatever missile system you can on the highslots. For the lvl 1 missions which you are not going to be able to do in the Gila because of the gate constraints you will have to use a worm, which can also do the job.

Of course, if money is REALLY not an issue it's the guardian vexor you want.

Kite level 3s with a speed tanked Caracal maybe? With a Pith-A small booster perhaps?

The problem with Navy ships is that they require Cruiser IV (7 days base training time) whereas Pirate ships require a couple of days to cross train into a second cruiser faction because of the Frigate IV pre-req.

edit:
About three days for a newbie. Fitting skills can make it cap stable and allow for additional hardeners. Should be time to skill up the DPS a bit. Drones optional.

Maybe shoot for a destroyer. I used to run L3s in a Thrasher fit with small artillery, an AB and some shield buffer / resistances.

I'd go for a caracal or vexor. The weapons systems for those two require minimal training.

Specifically, I would go for a speed tank caracal: overdrive injectors, heavy missiles, afterburner, minimal tank. If ISK is no issue, you can easily afford Caldari Navy invulns and RF afterburner for example.

Some L1 missions will not let a cruiser in. For those, I would use a pirate/faction ship - Hookbill, Comet or Worm, for example. IMHO an Imicus or Kestrel (focussing on drone or missile skills) would be underpowered for a week-old character in L1s.

Going down the missiles route, the speed-tank Caracal will run L3 missions, but it will not be particularly efficient. For L3s you really should upgrade to a Drake.

Going down the drones route, the Dominix can field all size drones and will pack far more tank than you will ever need. The Vexor can pack a decent tank if you spend lots of ISK, of course. The Myrmidon can run L3 missions in its sleep.

Hope this helps!

The same drive that motivates most of my choices in EVE: curiosity. Optimizing level 4 missions is a beaten path with lots of info on it, hence I chose something that has plenty of room left for exploration. Doesn't matter the available resources or the goal, as long as the allocation of that resource - even if as little as a single skill - makes a difference and said difference can be measured it is possible to optimize. One week is an arbitrary choice that seemed reasonable for iterating over ideas in light of the finite game time I am willing to dedicate to the project.

Eventually the thread yielded some very nice posts to get me started, thanks all of you that helped!

Given the short time frame I'd recommend a Worm and a Gila. This is because (sticking to light missiles and shield tanking) no skills you train will be redundant and both ships bonuses are exceptional.

Training times are not prohibitve.

Gallente and Cald Frigate III to get into the Worm ~ 7 hours.
Three more hours to get Drones, basic small missile skills, Small Shield Extender I (use 2), a lvl 1 Afterburner, a Damage Control I and an Invuln Field I. Possibly put a couple of Shield Power Relay 1's in the lowers.

Less than half a day training and you are set for lvl 2 and some lvl 3.

Couple of days more gets you into a Gila. You've moved up to a Cruiser but all skills are transferable, you just need to decide where you are going with either upgrading your shield, drone and/or missile skills.

Worm ship benefits

Special Ability: 50% bonus to Rocket and Light Missile velocity

Caldari Frigate Skill Bonus: 5% shield resistance per level
Gallente Frigate Skill Bonus: 5m3 Drone Bay Capacity per level

Gila Benefits

Special Ability: 50% bonus to Heavy, Heavy Assault and light Missile velocity

Caldari Cruiser Skill Bonus: 5% shield resistance per level
Gallente Cruiser Skill Bonus: 10% bonus to drone hitpoints and damage per skill level
